Civil Service Pathways Fellowship

DCAS and CUNY are partnering to announce the start of the 2024 Civil Service Pathways Fellowship (CSPF), which will connect recent grads with municipal career opportunities.  

Please share with any CUNY grads that may be in your lives and encourage them to join the ranks of public service. 

Brand new this year, project management architecture and engineering tracks have been added to the CSPF program, expanding its scope further. Upon selection, participants are placed in high-demand positions across the city in one of six professional career tracks, including:

  • Information Technology and Data Analysis 
  • Creative Services and Digital Media

Free Workforce Training Programs

 CompTIA A+ Computer Technician Program

This program is geared toward individuals interested in pursuing a career in information technology. Courses will be held online and cover the fundamentals of PC hardware, software, and peripherals. Topics will include hardware and software troubleshooting, operating systems, operational procedures, security, virtualization, and cloud computing. The program will also prepare students for the CompTIA A+ certification exam. Interest in Information Technology or prior experience in the industry is strongly recommended.

CompTIA Network+ Computer Technician Program

This program is geared towards individuals interested in a career in information technology and covers the core skills necessary to support networks in any environment. Courses will be held online and cover networking concepts, network implementation, operations, security, and troubleshooting. The program will also prepare students for the CompTIA Network+ certification exam. Students must have completed CompTIA A+ training or have experience in the industry to qualify for this program.

First Course NYC Information Session

First Course NYC is an apprenticeship program that teaches the culinary skills necessary for a career as a line cook. This 14-week program includes eight weeks of classroom kitchen training delivered by experienced Chefs/Instructors, followed by six weeks of on-the-job training in respected New York City restaurants.

Interested? Attend a virtual info session where you will learn more about the program requirements and receive a link to complete an online program application. If your application is accepted, you will be invited to participate in a Tryout Day and interviews with Employer Partners. The goal of First Course NYC is to seamlessly transition participants into a full-time Restaurant Cook position at a NYC restaurant at the end of the program. PAID INTERNSHIP CULINARY ARTS

Bronx Community College FREE Adult Basic Education & Training Program

The Adult Basic Education and Training Program provides FREE services to adults who are seeking to improve their English language skills (ESOL), get a high school diploma (HSE), and to those who are displaced because of loss of income (DHP) . Besides obtaining academic instruction and counseling, students receive college/training information and follow-up.

  • ESL classes meet three times per week from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm or from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. There are 5 Levels of ESL classes.
  • Pre HSE and HSE classes meet from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm Monday through Thursday.
  • The DHP program provides job readiness skills such as: resume writing, interviewing techniques and basic computer classes. Students must meet specific eligibility requirements.  Students attend once per week.  For more information regarding DHP, please call 718 289-5832/5838
  • Integrated English Language and Civics Education (IELCE) provides high-level ESOL instruction with an emphasis on college and career preparation. Classes are available morning, evenings and Saturdays.

We run four cycles per year and students need to call 718-289-5834 to schedule an appointment. Registration takes approximately 3 hours, and includes testing for appropriate class placement.

Bronx Community College: CUNY Language Immersion Program (CLIP)

The CUNY Language Immersion Program CLIP is an intensive English as a Second Language (ESL) program for CUNY students who need to improve their academic English language skills. Classes meet five hours a day, five days a week, during daytime or evening sessions. Students who have been accepted to any CUNY college can spend up to one year in the program.

CLIP is a content-based program where students learn English by studying topics in American history, literature, environmental studies and more. In this way, students build knowledge and academic skills as they develop their English language skills. CLIP students also learn the computer skills they need for college.

CLIP is a low-cost program. Most students pay a fee of $180 for a 15-week semester (25 hours a week). Students do not use their financial aid while in CLIP. Instead, they save their financial aid for subsequent college coursework. Participants in the CUNY Language Immersion Program enter college with experience in writing compositions, reading and analyzing texts, making presentations and using computers for academic purposes.

The HOPE Program & Sustainable South Bronx

Building sustainable futures through comprehensive training, jobs, advancement and lifelong career support. 

  • HOPEworks (class starting 8/12/24, 9/3/24, 11/4/24 ): is a seven-week program that helps participants succeed in the job market and navigate careers in various fields through cover letter and resume writing, computer skills, interview prep, basic math and English literacy, and workplace soft skills such as public speaking and conflict resolution.
  • Sustainable South Bronx (class starting 10/15/24, 2/18/25, 6/16/25): is a twelve-week program that prepares jobseekers for careers in the green infrastructure and maintenance field through classroom-based learning, industry-recognized certifications, hands-on community greening projects, and job application skills.
  • HVAC (class starting 10/21/24, 3/17/25): is an eleven-week program preparing jobseekers for careers in high efficiency heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, with a focus on heat pumps and energy efficient technology.
  • NYC °CoolRoofs (class starting 7/29/24, 3/31/25): is a ten-week transitional employment program that pays participants to coat rooftops in a reflective material that reduces their energy output. Participants gain hands-on experience while making New York City more sustainable.
  • Intervine (class starting 9/9/24, 4/14/25 ): is a ten-week transitional employment program that pays participants to engage in hands-on learning through green infrastructure projects across the city while learning critical job skills.
