Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part 1

(the camera rises upon EARTH-X, skies turning red; LEO SNART is on a reconnaissance mission for the Freedom Fighters; RAY TERRILL, aka THE RAY, is on comms)

THE RAY

(over comms)

You see anything, Leo?

LEO

Nothing yet… Patience, my love.

(LEO continues to survey the area; gusts of winds make him flinch, abruptly aiming his cold gun; suddenly, a SHADOW DEMON appears and charges at LEO; he fires his gun, freezing the creature and calming his tension)

THE RAY

(over comms)

Leo!?

LEO

(catching his breath)

It’s okay… I’m okay.

(just when he feels safe, two more SHADOW DEMONS attack; he freezes one, but the other claws from behind; LEO strikes back, uppercutting with his gun and the creature evaporates into shadows)

LEO

What the hell are these things!?

(more SHADOW DEMONS attack; it’s too much for just one hero; cut to the Freedom Fighters’ base camp)

THE RAY

We have no idea. Can you give us a visual? Leo…? Leo!?

(without a second thought, RAY grabs his helmet and blasts through the roof of the base camp; THE RAY flies overhead towards LEO’s location)

LEO

(through breaking up comms)

Ray, I- I love you-

THE RAY

(confused, heartbroken)

Leo, no! Leo?? NOOOOO!!!!!!!

(THE RAY blasts forwards; pushing himself with all his will, until colliding, and disintegrating into anti-matter)

[TITLE SEQUENCE ENSUES]

[FLASHBACK]

(TEN THOUSAND YEARS AGO; on the planet, MALTUS; a picnic setting, not unlike landscape you might see on Earth; a young MAR NOVU is laying on a blanket with his to-be wife, XNEEN)

XNEEN

(jokingly)

Remind me again why I agreed to come out here with you?

MAR NOVU

You have a thing for men with towering ambition?

(she laughs: MAR NOVU stares at the skies)

XNEEN

(staring at him longingly)

Those eyes… What do they dream about?

MAR NOVU

You mean other than you?

XNEEN

(laughing again)

I’m serious! The way you stare at the stars. It’s like you see other worlds.

MAR NOVU

The stars are just the beginning... What I can’t help contemplating is what lies beyond them.

XNEEN

I think there must be other worlds out there.

MAR NOVU

(perking up)

You do?

XNEEN

(smiling; sheepishly)

I don’t know… I like to call it a multiverse…

MAR NOVU

I like it…

XNEEN

(staring at the skies now, too)

I’ve always wondered what it could be like… venturing into different worlds…

MAR NOVU

It could be wonderful.

XNEEN

It could be terrifying… Infinite amounts of unknown worlds… anything could be out there.

MAR NOVU

I don’t want to fear the unknown... I wish to understand it… All of it. The bad, the good... the ugly, the beautiful…

(a playful look towards the woman he’s falling in love with)

XNEEN

Do you think it’s possible? To fully understand the universe?

MAR NOVU

I do… If there was only a way that we could go back and see the universe at its inception… witness the tapestry of the… (choosing her word) multiverse… and see as it was being unwound! (XNEEN laughs) Think about the knowledge we might acquire, Xneen! We could make a better world…

XNEEN

(smiling; in awe of him)

I’m really glad you got me to come out here with you…

(MAR NOVU chuckles; they lean into kiss)

HARBINGER

(disembodied voice; faint, distant)

Monitor? Monitor!

MONITOR

(present day; fade to the MONITOR’s REALM; snapping out of his rememberance)

Sorry, I was… contemplating.

HARBINGER

You were saying about the crisis?

MONITOR

Yes… It draws near.

(EARTH-1; JOHN DIGGLE returns to STAR CITY, concerned of LYLA’s and OLIVER’s whereabouts)

DIGGLE

(answering FELICITY SMOAK’s voicemail)

Hey, Felicity, it’s John... I know the timing might seem questionable, but give me a call back if you can… It’s important.

(DIGGLE sighs and looks around the loud city that’s all too familiar to him, unsure of what his next move should be; as if on cue, a more distinct sound rings true; the familiar sound of the WAVERIDER, rumbling through the city’s skyline; DIGGLE drops his phone in shock, perusing the ship in search of help; pan up to the WAVERIDER, cutting into the GALLEY of the ship)

SARA

(grabbing a beer from the fridge)

Okay, Ava and our magical creature representatives are off defending the Time Bureau’s name in D.C., while the rest of us get to cheer from the sidelines.

MICK

I’ll drink to that.

(they cheers; JOHN CONSTANTINE enters, scurrying through the cabinets)

JOHN

(finding his lighter)

Ah, there you are.

(he tries to leave before being addressed)

SARA

Where are you headed off to so fast?

JOHN

(coming up with the lie, fairly well)

Well, it’s not often you end up in the present day on this bloody ship, is it? I’ve just got a few personal matters to attend to, alright?

MICK

Didn’t think you had personal matters, weasel.

JOHN

Well, I’m chock full of surprises, aren’t I, Rory?

SARA

Well, we’re not planning on staying in Central City long. I need you back soon, or we might have to leave you.

JOHN

(sarcastically, quickly exiting)

Yeah, yeah, yeah, and then where would I be?

(RAY PALMER enters; chipper as usual)

RAY

Hey, John! Where are you headed off to so fast?

JOHN

Oh, you know, things to do, big man.

(JOHN exits)

RAY

What’s that about?

SARA

(shrugs, taking another sip of her beer)

Beats me.

(RAY looks questioningly back into the hallway; parked just next to the HALL OF JUSTICE, JOHN exits the WAVERIDER, double checking behind him to make sure no one is following; he casts a spell, burning the ancient scroll he salvaged in the MONITOR’s visit to HeyWorld; the flame turns green and the spell transports into JOHN; his eyes begin to glow and, to his eyes only, the spell presents a trail of footprints that he follows into the sewers of CENTRAL CITY; the camera zooms in on RAY, shrunken down in the A.T.O.M. suit, trailing from behind; JOHN investigates the scene of NASH WELLS’ incident; in the echoing chamber of the sewers he hears the microscopic sound of the A.T.O.M suit’s functions)

JOHN

Hello? Is someone there…?

(he inspects the smallest speck of blue until- *boom* - the ATOM grows to full size)

JOHN

 Ray!? What the hell are you doing down here!?

RAY

I could ask you the same question-

JOHN

You shouldn’t have been spying on me!

RAY

And you shouldn’t have lied to the team... What are you doing down here, John?

JOHN

Just- Following up on a lead-

RAY

A lead on what? What’s down here-?

JOHN

(getting frustrated)

Ray-

RAY

What aren’t you telling me?

JOHN

Bullocks! Fine, look… Last year, after we sent Neron to Hell- Saving your soul mind you-

RAY

Thanks again for that.

JOHN

Sure thing, squire... (hesitantly goes on) In the aftermath, I acquired an ancient scroll of some kind… It warned of a coming crisis on this exact day and year, and in burning it… Well, it led me here.

RAY

You know, you really shouldn’t believe everything you read on ominous scrolls you find laying around the place.

JOHN

The thing had mystical properties, mate.

RAY

Right... (processing) That’s a lot to take in, John… A coming crisis? What does that even mean?

JOHN

I really don’t know... (pointing to the GATEWAY) but I think the answer may lie beyond that wall.

(EARTH-38; SUPERGIRL is flying all over NATIONAL CITY, saving citizens from collateral damage of earthquakes that won’t seem to quit; worried about her city, she flies to the D.E.O.)

SUPERGIRL

I don’t think National City has ever seen this much damage and destruction all at once. This feels bigger than Leviathan-

ALEX

The USGS didn’t register an early warning, so it took everyone completely by surprise-

BRAINY

She does mean everyone because this earthquake is, quite literally, worldwide.

ALEX

But the seismic activity wasn’t coming from within the planet, it’s coming from without.

SUPERGIRL

That’s-

BRAINY

Extra-normal?

SUPERGIRL

I was gonna say “impossible,” but, okay-

BRAINY

Yes, yes, a fair descriptor… but however you choose to describe this event, one thing is absolutely certain: We have-

(cut to J’ONN J’ONZZ, standing at attention)

J’ONN

A major crisis on our hands.

(the four heroes debrief amidst the chaos of the D.E.O. falling apart)

SUPERGIRL

The Monitor freed Malefic? I didn’t think he was of this universe-

BRAINY

Yes, I thought the Monitor was the Flash and Green Arrow’s problem.

J’ONN

He’s of every universe, and he’s everyone’s problem. Last year he tested Kara and Earth-1’s heroes with Doctor Deegan and the Book of Destiny. This year he’s testing me to make sure I’m ready.

ALEX

Ready for what?

SUPERGIRL

Another reality wave?

BRAINY

Not exactly... Whatever it is, it’s hurtling through space at an impossible speed. I calculate it will reach the edge of the universe in exactly 5.3 hours, at which point it will boomerang back. Once it intersects again with our solar system, the results will be, in a word… Cataclysmic.

J’ONN

Exactly when will it reach us?

BRAINY

There are too many variables to calculate precisely, but I will say this: If this wave isn’t stopped by tomorrow night, there will be no more us, no more future, no more anything.

ALEX

Are there any inhabited planets in its trajectory?

BRAINY

(projecting the visual of his device to the wide screen)

One…

ALEX

Argo City…

J’ONN

Oh, my god- Superman’s there with Lois and-

SUPERGIRL

And my mom…

ALEX

Can we warn them?

BRAINY

Argo Harun-El makes communication virtually impossible. I can try, but I’m afraid they may be on their own.

SUPERGIRL

How much time do they have, Brainy?

BRAINY

Not enough…

SUPERGIRL

(whispering to herself)

Please, Kal…

(ARGO CITY; LOIS is teasing CLARK, attempting to change a newborn JONATHAN KENT’s dirty diaper)

LOIS

“Superman, champion of Earth, who faced off against Doomsday, apprehended General Zod, and bested Lex Luthor more times than the world can count, has finally met his match: A dirty diaper.” (jokingly) What do you think? Front page news?

CLARK

(playing along)

Uh, I mean, I think it’s a little lowbrow for Lois Lane.

LOIS

Lowbrow? (laughs) If only the citizens of Earth could see their champion struggling with spit up.

CLARK

(chuckling)

Need I remind you, Miss Lane, uh, I have no powers here.

LOIS

Oh, don’t you go blaming this on the red sun, babe.

(CLARK gasps as he successfully changes his son; he picks him up; burping JONATHAN, he walks towards LOIS)

CLARK

Hey, buddy.

LOIS

Yay, Daddy did it!

CLARK

Yeah, kinda!

LOIS

Jonathan really has his father’s eyes, huh?

CLARK

I’ll take it, so long as he has your everything else.

(they kiss, as they do, a red glare looms over them; back on EARTH-1; inside the WAVERIDER’s GALLEY, MICK and SARA continue their drink)

SARA

Okay, remember that one mission where we were supposed to be protecting the king of France from those Time Pirates?

MICK

You hooked up with the queen, didn’t you?

SARA

(snickering)

I totally did-

MICK

Aha! I knew it!

(both laugh)

GIDEON

(overhead)

Sorry to interrupt, Captain, but we seem to have a visitor.

SARA

A visitor? (to MICK) We don’t get visitors… Who?

GIDEON

(overhead)

Mr. John Diggle.

(MICK takes a deep swig of his beer; cut to the ship’s CARGO BAY; SARA opens the slide door)

SARA

Dig?

DIGGLE

Sara…

(they hug)

SARA

What are you doing here-? How did you find us?

DIGGLE

Well, I heard the sound of that trippy-ass spaceship of yours, and I followed it... all the way here... Not too hard when you know what you’re looking for.

SARA

Wow, that’s actually pretty impressive-

DIGGLE

Sara, it’s Lyla and Oliver… I think they’re both in serious danger.

(in the halls of the WAVERIDER, DIGGLE explains what he knows to SARA)

SARA

So, let me get this straight, Lyla has been secretly working with this god-like deity who calls himself “The Monitor” and Oliver’s convinced he’s destined to die, in what? Some multiverse-shattering crisis…?

DIGGLE

That’s the very short, bullet-point list version, but pretty much, yeah.

SARA

And I thought my life’s been unpredictable lately.

(they enter back into the GALLEY)

SARA

Mick, you remember John.

DIGGLE

(waving awkwardly)

Heat Wave-

MICK

(grunts confirmingly, raising his beer)

DIGGLE

I can’t lose them, Sara… and the worst part is, I don’t even know if I can help-

SARA

(grabbing his shoulder)

Hey, don’t worry… We’re gonna find them.

DIGGLE

Only problem is I’ve got no clue where to start.

MICK

We’re in Central City... just go ask the speedster to help you find Robin Hood.

SARA

(to DIGGLE)

If what you said about the multiverse being in danger is true, Barry might know something that we don’t...

DIGGLE

S.T.A.R. Labs isn’t far from here...

SARA

(exiting)

Mick, man the ship until we’re back... (turning back) and good thinking.

MICK

(grunts in appreciation, finishing his beer)

(LIAN YU; OLIVER QUEEN is saying goodbye to his daughter, MIA)

OLIVER

For a very long time, I have hated this place. I’d think about all the people that it took from me. It would just- It would just make me so angry.

MIA

But you’re not now…

OLIVER

I’m still a little bit angry. (MIA smiles) This island taught me to survive. It turned me into something else. Someone better than the person I was before. So, despite my feelings, there are no stories about the Green Arrow to tell if I don’t make my way to Lian Yu... and I’m also not standing at this moment, looking at my daughter…

MIA

Thank you for letting me be a part of your story. Even if it was only for a little while.

OLIVER

Mia, something tells me you’re gonna create your own story.

(suddenly, thunder begins to rumble and red lightning strikes; HARBINGER appears… a sign of things to come)

OLIVER

(surprised)

Lyla?

HARBINGER

I’m the Monitor’s Harbinger now.

MIA

Harbinger-?

OLIVER

And you’re here now?

HARBINGER

The Crisis has begun…

(Oliver breathes in nervously; cut to GOTHAM CITY; BATWOMAN is taking down a group of RABBITS, of ALICE’S WONDERLAND GANG; one of them is about to talk when HARBINGER appears)

HARBINGER

Batwoman, the multiverse is in grave danger. It requires your help-

BATWOMAN

I’ll deal with whatever your crazy is in a minute.

HARBINGER

There is no more time.

(back on EARTH-38; ALEX is doing her best to manage her agents inside the D.E.O.)

ALEX

Panic is rising out there. (outward) I want every available agent in the field until we get a handle on whatever this thing is!

(her and SUPERGIRL share a sisterly-look; KARA holds back tears, worried for her family on ARGO; HARBINGER appears; ALEX and her agents aim their weapons)

ALEX

Hey! Face down and on the floor! Now!

SUPERGIRL

Was this you? Are you destroying our world?

(HARBINGER teleports in OLIVER, MIA, and BATWOMAN from EARTH-1)

SUPERGIRL

(to ALEX)

Stand down! (ALEX prompts her agents) Oh, my god, Oliver…

(she goes to hug him)

OLIVER

Kara, it’s good to see you.

(BATWOMAN approaches, confused)

BATWOMAN

Kara? Where are we and what just happened?

SUPERGIRL

Um, well-

HARBINGER

You’re on Earth-38. There was-

(BATWOMAN right hooks HARBINGER, though she remains mostly unphased)

BATWOMAN

That Rabbit was about to talk!

BRAINY

(to J’ONN)

This one speaks to rabbits…

SUPERGIRL

It’s okay! ‘Cause we’re all on the same side-

BATWOMAN

Are we? Because I don’t know them…

SUPERGIRL

But you know me… and, trust me, if you were brought here alongside the Green Arrow over here… (she looks at OLIVER, annoyed his secret identity is now outed) then it’s probably because we need you. I trust everyone in this room with my life, including you.

BATWOMAN

(convinced, she goes to remove her cowl)

Well then… I guess you should all just call me Kate.

OLIVER

(kicking himself, even more annoyed)

Yeah, yeah, that makes a lot of sense…

MIA

Uh, I’m Mia… I’m Oilver’s daughter.

J’ONN

I never knew he had a daughter.

MIA

He gets that a lot.

(OLIVER winces, wanting to move on)

ALEX

(pointing at HARBINGER)

Okay, you. Start talking.

(a mission briefing room inside the D.E.O.; HARBINGER explains to our heroes why she’s brought them here)

HARBINGER

There’s a wave of anti-matter sweeping across this universe and destroying everything in its path.

OLIVER

I’ve seen the anti-matter wave in effect. It wiped all of Earth-2 right out of existence.

HARBINGER

I brought you all to Earth-38 because this is where the Monitor wants you to make your stand. This universe is the tipping point. If we’re unable to stop the anti-matter wave here, it will continue to the next universe, and the next, until it has obliterated not only every Earth, but every thing… across all of reality.

OLIVER

Right, so, we are going to need a bigger team. Where’s Barry? Where are the Legends?

HARBINGER

Your friends have their own roles to play in this crisis. I hope you can make do with those of you in this room.

OLIVER

You’re starting to sound like him...

SUPERGIRL

And if we don’t stop it? Is there no other way to protect the people of this Earth?

HARBINGER

If you should fail to stop the anti-matter wave, the Monitor believes a global evacuation of this Earth’s people is the best chance they have of survival.

KATE

How do you even begin an evacuation of that magnitude?

ALEX

I can call the president. Try to coordinate a start at least.

BRAINY

The number of vessels it would require to attempt such an exodus is among the hundreds of thousands, if not, millions.

MIA

Where could you find that many?

J’ONN

Every alien refugee on this planet came here inside their own ship. We could ask them for their help.

BRAINY

Do you really think they’d help the government? After how they were treated last year?

SUPERGIRL

We have to have hope that everybody will do the right thing. Humans and aliens alike.

OLIVER

These ships wouldn’t happen to be multiversal traveling, would they?

SUPERGIRL

No… and one little extrapolator to Earth-1 isn’t going to do the job.

J’ONN

What about a trans-matter portal?

BRAINY

Who could build one big enough? Certainly not me.

HARBINGER

Lex Luthor.

SUPERGIRL

What?

ALEX

Lex Luthor is dead.

HARBINGER

Lex Luthor was resurrected by the Monitor. He knew that even someone like Lex has a role to fulfil in the crisis to come.

J’ONN

If this is true, Lex’s technology built an enormous trans-matter portal for the Daxamites three years ago. I’m sure he could build one twice as big.

ALEX

It’s too big of a risk. I mean, after everything he’s done? He can’t be trusted.

J’ONN

What other choice do we have?

OLIVER

If I could chime in... (to ALEX) I understand you have a history with this guy, but if he’s the last chance your world’s people have at survival…?

ALEX

(not having much of a response)

Kara?

SUPERGIRL

I don’t like it, but fine... We go to Lex Luthor.

(cut to KATE on the balcony of the D.E.O. thinking; SUPERGIRL enters)

SUPERGIRL

Hey... Oliver, J’onn, and Brainy are getting ready to go see Luthor now.

KATE

That’s great…

SUPERGIRL

How are you holding up?

KATE

I don’t know, Kara… I mean, an anti-matter wave crisis? A whole universe of parallel Earths…?

SUPERGIRL

(trying to lighten the mood)

It’s a multiverse, actually-

KATE

(scoffs)

And now what? I’m supposed to help save it all? It’s just a lot… I’m starting to feel out of my depth surrounded by heroes like you.

SUPERGIRL

Kate, you’re just as much a hero as any of us-

KATE

Oh, c’mon-

SUPERGIRL

I’m serious! I mean, just look at Oliver. He started off all dark and brooding, too... A little like you, huh? (kidding) And, you know… I guess he turned out alright.

(they share a laugh the both of them needed)

SUPERGIRL

You know, my whole world just came crashing down a little bit ago?

KATE

(confused)

Yeah, I know... That’s why I’m here-

SUPERGIRL

No, figuratively, I mean, actually. (exhales) It’s my mom and my cousin… They’re on another planet, the anti-matter wave’s gonna hit them first, and I have no way of warning them…

KATE

Kara, I’m so sorry-

SUPERGIRL

Thank you... But even despite these powers, I can’t help but feel so helpless, you know? So, uh… you’re not alone in feeling a little out of your depth.

(tears begin to form in KARA’s eyes)

KATE

Hey, come here.

(they share a hug, something else they both needed; we cut to EARTH-73;

the FLASH awakes in FREELAND, sent there by HARBINGER)

FLASH

Where the hell am I…?

BLACK LIGHTNING

I’ll do you one better. Who the hell are you?

(BLACK LIGHTNING blasts a bolt of lightning at the FLASH, who super-speeds out of the way)

FLASH

Woah, wait, I’m not your enemy!

(BLACK LIGHTNING isn’t listening and throws another blast)

FLASH

Please, can we talk about this, electric guy!?

BLACK LIGHTNING

The name’s Black Lightning!

(BLACK LIGHTNING lets out a wave of lightning that completely takes the FLASH off of his feet)

BLACK LIGHTNING

Now, what the hell are you doing in my city?

FLASH

(still wincing from the pain)

Aw, man, please... (coughs) I’m here to help you... to warn you…

BLACK LIGHTNING

Warn me? About what?

(as if on cue, FREELAND’s skies begin to turn red)

FLASH

(pointing, coughing)

That...

(BLACK LIGHTNING turns his head to look up at the sky; back on EARTH-1; JOHN and RAY are inspecting the GATEWAY OF ETERNIUM)

RAY

Well, if you wanted a scientific perspective, I’m afraid the material of this wall is made up of elements my scanning can’t even pick up.

JOHN

That’s what has me worried… Can you shrink it?

RAY

(positioning himself)

I can try... Stand back.

(RAY aims his shrink ray and… nothing; Nothing can budge this wall)

RAY

Nothing...

JOHN

Dammit! What the hell does it mean, Ray? Any of it! And how are we supposed to get past this blasted obstacle of a wall when we can’t even identify what it’s made out of!?

(just then, the sound of a speedster’s zip and a red flash of light; we hear the disembodied voice of an approaching silhouette)

REVERSE-FLASH

(stepping into the light)

It’s called… (taking off his cowl) Eternium.

RAY

(aiming his blaster)

You!

EOBARD

Oh, hello, Doctor Palmer. I have to admit that was not the reaction I expected- Have we met before?

RAY

I thought the Black Flash erased you from existence!

EOBARD

(snickering)

Who-? Zolomon? No, sounds like some dastardly future version… I guess the “erased from existence” part didn’t take, though, huh? I’m always counting my blessings… I do look forward to it, Raymond... Can I call you Raymond?

JOHN

Ray, who the hell is this wanker?

 EOBARD

Oh, how rude of me. (extending a hand) Eobard Thawne. And, judging by the accent and the obscene trenchcoat, you must be John Constantine. Wow, can I just say it is an honor, truly!

JOHN

(ignoring the hand)

Right… And, uh, what do you know about this wall of… Eternium?

EOBARD

It’s a gateway, actually. (speeds to the wall; inspecting it) They say it’s the universe’s last line of defense against this coming crisis.

JOHN

Last line of defense?

RAY

John, this man is an esteemed liar and manipulator. I wouldn’t believe a word that comes out of his mouth-

EOBARD

Thank you, Raymond, but I can speak for myself. Look, I don’t want to hurt either of you. My last concern is a couple of Legends. I do, however, want to see what’s on the other side of that gateway, just like you boys. So, what do you say? Should we open it?

RAY

We can’t.

JOHN

No magical spell or scientific device has come anywhere close. It’s impenetrable, mate.

EOBARD

Really? No magic, huh? Have you tried accompanying an unlock spell with, perhaps, another element?

JOHN

I don’t think any element under the sun would bring us any closer to bypassing that bleeding wall.

EOBARD

Nothing under the sun, right… Maybe you just need something a little more… artificial.

(EOBARD looks down at his hand as he summons his NEGATIVE SPEED FORCE energy around it; we cut back to the MONITOR’s REALM; LEX LUTHOR is still playing chess; HARBINGER teleports in, along with OLIVER, J’ONN, and BRAINY)

LEX

Well, would you look at that? What an awful surprise. Hello, J’onn, Brainiac 5… Oh, and a newbie! Where’s the Monitor?

HARBINGER

He’s-

OLIVER

(slowly approaching)

Doesn’t matter. Hello there, Lex. I’ve heard a lot about you. Let’s just get one thing straight: I’m not a newbie, I’m the Green Arrow. Also on first name basis with Mar Novu, and I don’t take kindly to narcissists… Now, we need your help.

LEX

(scoffs)

Help? Help with what?

J’ONN

Saving our world.

LEX

Saving it? What, you want me to stop the anti-matter wave? Please, we’ll all die together-

J’ONN

We don’t want you to stop it. We want you to help us save the people.

LEX

Always so sentimental, Manhunter. How the hell would I even begin to do that?

OLIVER

You’re going to build a trans-matter portal.

LEX

I could never build one that big.

BRAINY

It’s a Quantum Tower, apparently. They’re designed specifically to be capable of generating a quantum flux field which can, theoretically, reverse the exogenic state of the anti-matter wave and dissipate the anti-matter energy. Though, that is if we can protect it.

BATWOMAN

Protect it from what?

ALEX

The Monitor also has his own antithesis, the Anti-Monitor... He has his own army and they’re getting closer by the minute.

BATWOMAN

So, how do we protect that thing from an enemy that we know is coming, but we know nothing about?

(both GREEN ARROWs arrive, lagging slightly behind)

OLIVER

 We head inside, stake out strategic positions. If we’re fortified, we control the battle.

ALEX

Agreed. (shouting) C’mon, let’s go, people!

(as they begin to move, the SHADOW DEMONS arrive and begin their attack; our heroes fend them off while pushing inside the QUANTUM TOWER; cut to NATIONAL CITY; DREAMER’s voice is heard over loudspeaker throughout the city, encouraging citizens to board the ships in order to evacuate; KELLY OLSEN is helping innocents in the midst of the chaos, wielding her brother’s shield; DREAMER approaches)

So, you’re from another Earth, like entirely, and a wave of anti-matter, basically just absolute nothingness, is coming to consume my world and everything I love in it? That’s what you’re telling me?

FLASH

BLACK LIGHTNING

FLASH

But we can stop it together.

BLACK LIGHTNING

(the FLASH paces, trying to figure out the best way to answer the question)

Okay, look- (taking off his mask) My name is Barry Allen, I became a meta-human on my Earth after I was struck by lightning, and the reason I know so much about this crisis is because I’m supposed to die in it. I’m supposed to lose everyone I love. My team, my friends, my wife, my kid I’m still supposed to have! I am going to lose my entire family, so that everyone else’s can live! So, please, I am begging you. Let me help you save yours…

(just then, SHADOW DEMONS start to appear under the red skies)

BLACK LIGHTNING

Well, damn, alright then, Barry. You should’ve led with that. (he takes off his own mask) Jefferson Pierce. (he extends a hand; gesturing at the SHADOW DEMONS) This what we’re up against?

(BARRY looks and puts his mask back on)

FLASH

(nodding; shaking BLACK LIGHTNING’s hand)

Together.

(the colors of their own respective lightnings spark in their embrace; they move forward to take on the SHADOW DEMON army; back on EARTH-1; WHITE CANARY and SPARTAN make their way towards S.T.A.R. LABS)

SPARTAN

Wow, this really fits like a glove. That fabricator of yours is insane.

WHITE CANARY

(laughing)

Well, I’ll be sure to give your compliments to Gideon.

(suddenly, they hear and feel the rumble of a massive surge of energies coming from underneath them)

SPARTAN

Do you feel that?

WHITE CANARY

This way, over here!

(underneath their feet, EOBARD is lending NEGATIVE SPEED FORCE energy to JOHN)

EOBARD

Not much longer now, John-

RAY

We should stop! We have no idea the damage this could cause!

JOHN

It’s fine, Ray! I just need a little more-

(JOHN screams in pain)

It’s okay, big man! (he winces again) Let me have this, yeah? Let me just be the hero for once-

(JOHN performs his incantation; the NEGATIVE SPEED FORCE energy combines with his own magic to create a surge of duel-energy; it flows into the GATEWAY OF ETERNIUM; it combines and sends a backlash of energy that knocks all three of them down, but it also opens the GATEWAY; out from it walks the old body of NASH WELLS, now a PARIAH)

(squinting his eyes from the glow)

Harrison Wells…?

PARIAH

I am… Pariah.

(PARIAH vanishes away, leaving the three of them stunned; behind them, they notice WHITE CANARY and SPARTAN standing there, having watched the whole thing happen)

WHITE CANARY

(in shock, especially at seeing EOBARD; asking aloud)

What the hell did you do?

(back on EARTH-73; BLACK LIGHTNING and the FLASH are fighting valiantly in FREELAND; the FLASH swipes through the SHADOW DEMONS, leaving only a cloud of their remains behind; BLACK LIGHTNING zaps an array of demons as the FLASH swarms around him, fending more off. BLACK LIGHTNING is fighting harder than ever, knowing the weight of everything he’s fighting for; But, eventually, they’re overwhelmed; PARIAH appears to bear witness; BLACK LIGHTNING lets out a final attack; a battle cry of an explosion of electricity; his world collides with the anti-matter, leaving nothing behind; back on EARTH-38, J’ONN is supervising LEX in his lab)

The Quantum Tower is keeping the wave at bay. Supergirl and our team are fighting hard to protect it, but we need to get this portal up and running-

You can save me the lecture, thank you. I understand the severity of the circumstances, okay? I’m trying, but the trans-matter portal works by synthesizing polyelectronic anions, and if I don’t get the energy levels right when I interface with the extrapolator then the ships will disintegrate right when they fly through it. And as much as I’d like to see that happen-

J’ONN

That’s not going to help.

LEX

Those pathetic people down there? No.

J’ONN

What about Galleon’s theory? An inverse variable to help calculate the differential?

LEX

That’s… actually not a terrible idea, Martian. An inverse beta-decay to figure constituent quark… That could work, but-

(outbursts)

Dammit! There’s not enough time, J’onn! (beginning to pack up) And I’m not going to spend my last moments of life pretending to turn over a new leaf, saving the exasperating human race.

(slams his case)

You said there’s not enough time to save everyone. Can you save anyone? At all?

LEX

(hesitantly admits)

Then for god’s sake do it! The Monitor brought you back to life because he claims you have a purpose. Do you understand the gift he’s given you? You have the rare opportunity right now to be the one man who single-handily saved the surviving people of his dying Earth. Doesn’t that mean something to you, Lex? Have honor in that!

(LEX takes a second to reconsider; he’s been hit hard)

Fine... (shrugs, unpacking) I do like a debt.

(in the rubble of the QUANTUM TOWERS, chaos continues as citizens board their ships; our heroes continue to tirelessly fight off the horde of SHADOW DEMONS, until, they move to start attacking above, depowering the tower)

BATWOMAN

They’re flocking to the top of the tower!

(over comms)

What’s happening out there? The skies are red again, the anti-matter wave’s moving, and the portal is just now opening!

MIA

There’s more Shadow Demons incoming!

OLIVER

Kara, get to the top of the tower! Get it operational again. We’ll stay behind and hold them off…

BRAINIAC 5

(to SUPERGIRL)

The tower’s operating system behaves as a solar panel, of sorts. A healthy blast of heat vision should likely be enough to make it operational again.

(SUPERGIRL flies up and away, beaming her heat vision at the QUANTUM TOWER; it’s enough to get it back up and running, but exhausts KARA; she falls to the ground)

BATWOMAN

Kara!

(SUPERGIRL gets up, ready for more)

BRAINIAC 5

You did it! Although, that charge won’t be enough to stop the wave entirely. It just slowed it down… The only way to assure the tower doesn’t completely fail again is to go to the source battery.

OLIVER

We need to keep it up and running until every one of those ships gets through... Where is this source battery?

BRAINIAC 5

Where we just were- There’s a chamber inside the base.

OLIVER

(looking at SUPERGIRL)

Let’s go-

BRAINIAC 5

(nervously)

There is one slight caveat... In order to stop the anti-matter energy, the tower requires a deposit of real, genuine, living matter. Whoever inserts themselves inside the chamber… could die.

OLIVER

(deflecting this reality)

One problem at a time, alright? (looking at SUPERGIRL) C’mon, let’s go!

(SUPERGIRL speeds OLIVER and herself to the SOURCE BATTERY)

SUPERGIRL

You know it has to be me, right?

OLIVER

SUPERGIRL

C’mon, Oliver! I’m Kryptonian!

OLIVER

SUPERGIRL

You heard Brainy, I’m the only one here who has any chance of surviving.

OLIVER

You don’t know that…

SUPERGIRL

OLIVER

(stepping back)

I know you do… Which is why I have to do this.

(OLIVER reaches back to his quiver and draws a RED SOLAR GRENADE arrow; he fires it at SUPERGIRL; the blast knocks her to the ground, making her weaker than ever)

(collapsing)

Oliver… Why-?

(OLIVER opens the chamber of the SOURCE BATTERY, looking back at his friend)

OLIVER

I’m sorry, Kara…

(just then, ALEX enters to check on them; she runs over to SUPERGIRL’s side)

Kara! (to OLIVER) What are you doing!?

OLIVER

Saving my friend.

ALEX

(tears forming)

(OLIVER closes himself into the SOURCE BATTERY, trading his life energy; just as he does, the anti-matter comes to consumes EARTH-38; cut to EARTH-1, inside the HALL OF JUSTICE; OLIVER is laying in his death bed, brought here by the MONITOR, who stands with his acolytes, HARBINGER and PARIAH; he’s also saved SUPERGIRL, BATWOMAN, MIA, J’ONN, and LEX, and brought them to this space)

(running to OLIVER’s side)

Dad!?

MONITOR

He fought to his last breath… even sacrificed himself… knowing every moment was another life saved.

SUPERGIRL

(still weak; struggling to get up)

MONITOR

Your universe is no more. Of 7.53 billion, three billion souls made it to Earth-1 on the armada of ships. I calculate approximately one billion souls survived due to his noble sacrifice alone.

(BLACK LIGHTNING looks at BARRY; he drops PARIAH out of solidarity; after a beat, LEX chimes in)

(SPARTAN shoots EOBARD with a non-lethal round and jerks him to his feet)

WHITE CANARY

Come on, let’s get him back to the ship. Then the two of you can explain to me what in the hell actually happened.

You know, all this really isn’t necessary. I mean, I wouldn’t give up front row seats to this crisis now…

(they arrive back at the WAVERIDER; the team hears commotion coming from inside the HALL)

Do you hear that?

WHITE CANARY

Looks like some friends of ours have found their way to the Hall…

SPARTAN

Sara, they could know about Oliver and Lyla.

WHITE CANARY

John, show Thawne to his cell. The rest of us have a party to crash…

(WHITE CANARY, SPARTAN, and RAY run off to the HALL; JOHN continues escorting EOBARD to the ship)

(inside the HALL; the MONITOR briefs our heroes on what comes next)

MONITOR

You have all lost a great hero.

MONITOR

I do not disagree. You have suffered a horrible loss, but have enough reasons not to lose hope. Seven, in fact. Across space and time exists seven heroes, beings of the purest will who can ultimately defeat the Anti-Monitor and help save the multiverse. They are known as Paragons.

And you’re just dropping this on us now?

MONITOR

The information was not relevant until now.

How do you even know about these so-called “Paragons”?

MONTOR

I heard pray-tell of the idea after consulting the Book of Destiny.

BARRY

How? We destroyed it last year.

MONITOR

Need I remind you, Flash. I was the one who granted Doctor Deegan the Book of Destiny in the first place. And the book was not destroyed, merely transferred to another Earth for further testing. Your next task should be to retrieve it from Earth-7.

BARRY

So, what? This is plan B? That’s comforting.

Uh, but wait. If the book can rewrite destiny, could it bring back Earth-38 or any of the other Earths?

The Book of Destiny tells of all seven, but, for now, I have leads on two potential Paragons. One is of a Kryptonian who is said to have suffered a greater loss than most mortal men could endure. Today he stands as the Paragon of Truth. The journey to discovering him lies upon a voyage to Earth-96.

(she looks over, catching on)

(J’ONN shapeshifts into his MARTIAN form, much to BLACK LIGHTNING’s amazement; the two of them fly through the CITADEL, tearing through the armed forces that stand in their way; eventually, they arrive to the throne room where DOCTOR DESTINY, skull face and all, stands waiting; by his throne, the BOOK OF DESTINY lies as the source of the CITADEL’s power)

(our CLARK and KARA follow suit, changing into SUPERMAN and SUPERGIRL respectively; at that moment, METALLO comes crashing through the roof; he’s powered, not by GREEN KRYPTONITE, but RED KRYPTONITE)

Careful-

(EARTH-96’s SUPERMAN pushes SUPERGIRL out of the way of RED MATALLO’s blast, absorbing the hit for himself; the RED KRYPTONITE fills him full of rage)

(EARTH 96’s SUPERMAN attacks ours, sending him flying into the wall of plaques)

(he takes the both of them flying out the window, leaving our SUPERMAN behind with RED METALLO; back on EARTH-99; BRUCE takes in what he’s been told)

Paragon of Courage? (laughs at the notion) You’re a few years too late… or have you not noticed the exo-skeleton?

RAY

But, Mr. Wayne, are you not the Batman?

BRUCE

I haven’t been Batman for a very long time.

(suddenly, a crash is heard as the entirely of WAYNE MANOR trembles; the last remaining followers of an old gang are lighting the building on fire)

What the hell was that?

BRUCE

Hard to say. I’ve made so many enemies over the years…

KATE

Ray, go check it out!

RAY

(the ATOM flies to the outside of the MANOR where more thugs are trying to break in; they continue burning the property to the ground, killing LUKE; RAY takes them on, but their sheer number causes him trouble; on EARTH-1; NORTH DAKOTA, 1868; in an old mine, SARA, JOHN, BARRY, and MIA have traveled back in time to find a functioning LAZARUS PIT)

JOHN

Yep. This is the place. (dips his fingers in the pit’s waters) Yep, that’s clean enough.

WHITE CANARY

(gagging)

Ugh-

MIA

We’ll clear this out.

BARRY

We’ll go get Oliver.

(BARRY speeds JOHN and himself off to the JUMPSHIP)

WHITE CANARY

Are you sure that you want to do this?

MIA

More than anything.

WHITE CANARY

Yeah… Your father wouldn’t take no for an answer either. When I think of all the stupid stuff we got into when we were your age, it’s amazing we didn’t get arrested more.

MIA

Arrested more?

WHITE CANARY

But you’re way smarter than him. You get that from your mom.

(the silhouette of a cowboy approaches from the cave; it’s JONAH HEX, but no scar)

Seems you little ladies have tied your horse to the wrong saloon. This mine is off limits.

I don’t care who owns it. We need to use this pit.

HEX

Well, I’m sure we can come to an arrangement…

(he puts his hand to MIA’s face; she punches him, throwing him into WHITE CANARY; after much resistance, SARA brings HEX to his knees and a knife to his face)

WHITE CANARY

The mine is ours.

HEX

(struggling)

The hell it is-!

WHITE CANARY

Sorry, Jonah. Guess you were gonna get this scar eventually.

(she takes the knife, slicing down his right cheek to create the scar she knows)

HEX

(wincing in pain)

Ease up, cowgirl! The mine’s yours! The mine’s yours-!

(MIA right hooks him in WHITE CANARY’s grasp, knocking him out)

WHITE CANARY

Huh. Nice.

MIA

So, did you change your mind about us using the pit then?

WHITE CANARY

I miss Ollie, too.

(BARRY and JOHN speed back in with OLIVER’s corpse)

BARRY

Did we miss something?

WHITE CANARY

Just put him in the water.

(they do so, very diligently; back on EARTH-99; KATE is trying to save BRUCE)

KATE

C’mon, Bruce, you have to walk!

BRUCE

Kate-

KATE

Please, Bruce, it’s not safe to stay here.

BRUCE

Kate! (beat) Just leave me... Save yourself-

KATE

What-? Bruce, no-

BRUCE

I’m an old man, Kate. Broken… I won’t make it out of here alive... but you can… (tears starting to form; touching her face) I can’t have my favorite cousin die for me again.

KATE

BRUCE

Just go!

(she obeys, putting back on her cowl and running out of the manor; she meets up with the ATOM; helping him to finish off the thugs; the fire has now spread uncontrollably)

ATOM

Thanks. Wait, where’s Bruce-?

BATWOMAN

Come on, let’s go!

ATOM

You’re not just leaving him, are you?

BATWOMAN

That man wasn’t the Paragon of anything.

ATOM

So, you’re just gonna leave him to die?

BATWOMAN

Ray, he told me to save myself. He knew the whole multiverse was at stake!

ATOM

You told me how much your cousin meant to you on our Earth. What if it was him? Could you turn your back then?

BATWOMAN

So, this Bruce is old and decrepit and fears everything he did wrong and all his past mistakes… We’re all scared, Kate. I’m on a parallel Earth for the first time in my life and, believe me, I am scared out of my mind. But true courage isn’t not being scared, it’s admitting you’re afraid and doing what you know is right anyways, despite it!

(BATWOMAN takes a second to take this in; she’s truly inspired)

BATWOMAN

I’ll take that upgrade now.

(RAY implements his upgrade and KATE runs back into the burning building; back inside, BRUCE is about to be crushed by a piece of falling, burning debris; an upgraded batarang boomerangs in, shrinking the debris upon collision; BATWOMAN picks BRUCE up and carries him out to safety)

(stunned)

(they embrace, RAY going in for the group hug; back on EARTH-96; SUPERGIRL is fighting a rage ensued SUPERMAN in the sky while our SUPERMAN fights RED METALLO inside the DAILY PLANET)

You’re being affected by red kryptonite, Kal! You have to snap out of it! The multiverse needs you!

(they collide, disbursing a sonic boom throughout METROPOLIS; SUPERMAN is finally able to overpower RED METALLO, leaving him in pieces on the Planet’s floor; EARTH-96’s SUPERMAN floats by the window, choking SUPERGIRL; he speaks to our SUPERMAN)

Actually, this is the second time I’ve gone nuts and fought with myself. (takes a moment to process what just happened) Thank you... Thank you, both.

(cut to EARTH-7; MARTIAN MANHUNTER and DOCTOR DESTINY exchange several blows in the sky; meanwhile, BLACK LIGHTNING approaches the BOOK OF DESTINY, trying to figure out how to retrieve it from its shrine; eventually, he tries grabbing on to it with full force, causing him to absorb the electrical energy it exerts; with access to unlimited power, he’s left in a trance; just then, MARTIAN MANHUNTER comes crashing back into the CITADEL)

MARTIAN MANHUNTER

Jefferson, please! Don’t do it!

BLACK LIGHTNING

I see it, J’onn. All of destiny… Everything that ever was… ever will be… I see my Earth. My wife… My girls…

You can’t do it! The Book will strip you of all your humanity!

(DOCTOR DESTINY returns to knock J’ONN out cold)

(he slams the book shut and redirects the energy he’s absorbed, blasting DOCTOR DESTINY back out of the window; this leaves the whole CITADEL completely depowered; JEFFERSON helps J’ONN to his feet)

(EARTH-1; 1868; our team stands around waiting for the pit to work its magic)

(just then, a growling sound; OLIVER’s resurrected body leaps out of the LAZARUS PIT; he goes to attack JOHN, but BARRY speeds him out of the way)

(OLIVER sees MIA)

(he approaches her aggressively; WHITE CANARY sticks a needle in his neck)

You tranqued him!?

As Supergirl can testify to, the Quantum Towers were bestowed upon key Earths as a last line of defense against an attack from my other half.

They’ll keep the anti-matter wave at bay. At least, when they’re working…

MONITOR

(the MONITOR begins to raise two QUANTUM TOWERS from out of the ground; JEFFERSON watches in awe)

Each Paragon is represented by a symbol in the book. Each also comes with their own… (rolling his eyes) “commendable, altruistic characteristic.” Like truth and courage? The rest are of hope, honor, humanity, love, and destiny… A bit cliche if you ask me, but-

With so many Earths already gone the pillars of magic are crumbling, leaving me the worse for wear. So, I can’t get us into bloody Purgatory, but don’t worry, squire. Luckily, I know a guy.

(JOHN knocks on a backdoor; the door opens up to LUCIFER MORNINGSTAR, involved with two women)

Souls choose their prisons. This place must be what Oliver thinks about when being trapped for all eternity. It’s a funny thing, too, considering his memories are probably mostly missing.

DIGGLE

JOHN

The second that Oliver’s soul landed here, his memories would’ve been- How can I put it…? Squeegeed.

MIA

So, we’ll have to make him remember us.

JOHN

Bollocks! We’ll have to get a move on, as well. This card is already beginning to fade. (sighs) When you work with the Devil you never know quite what you’re getting.

(the three of them continue through PURGATORY; back at the HALL, WHITE CANARY stumbles upon KATE in the HANGAR sitting by herself)

The whole world… (defeated laugh) I’m thinking about my friend, Luke... My family back in Gotham... My dad, my sister… I feel this overwhelming weight… knowing everything we’re fighting for is to save them.

I hate to break up the reunion, but this really is our cue to make like a tree and get Oliver’s soul back to his body.

(a man steps out from the forest: JIM CORRIGAN)

JOHN

CORRIGAN

(CORRIGAN’s eyes glow green)

MIA

Take a hike, crazy eyes.

CORRIGAN

(OLIVER takes a moment to consider; he turns to his friends, his daughter)

(he turns to DIGGLE, a look of understandment; he turns to CORRIGAN)

OLIVER

(CORRIGAN’s eyes glow green again, passing his power into OLIVER)

Dad, wait- I love-

(JOHN, DIGGLE, and MIA disappear, leaving OLIVER alone with CORRIGAN; back in STAR CITY; the skies begin turning red; in the ARROWCAVE; DINAH is reading a monitor)

Newscasts worldwide are reporting skies turning red… everywhere.

RENE

This the apocalypse you were talking about, Ray?

RAY

I’m afraid so, yeah…

RENE

Then let’s suit up. We got a city to defend.

(in the streets of CENTRAL CITY; REVERSE-FLASH is waiting patiently; a breach opens and out comes the FLASH and the team)

REVERSE-FLASH

There you are, Flash! I was beginning to worry you wouldn’t show… Oh, and you brought yourself a little team. (waving) Hello, Vibe… You shouldn’t be here-

FLASH

What’s your play here, Thawne? Look at the sky! This crisis will wipe you out just the same as the rest of us.

REVERSE-FLASH

(laughs genuinely; denying)

(REVERSE-FLASH speeds off; the FLASH, right behind him; in an explosion of light, THAWNE opens a wormhole that BARRY follows him through; cut to SUPERMAN, J’ONN and LEX landing in SMALLVILLE)

LEX

I don’t know, is this Smallville, Kansas?

J’ONN

Let’s make it quick. (looking up at the sky, beginning to turn red) I don’t think we have much time.

(we pan up to the red skies, following them fading all the way to the HALL; SUPERGIRL and BLACK LIGHTNING stand by the QUANTUM TOWERS)

BLACK LIGHTNING

Okay, so the skies are turning red again… That means-?

SUPERGIRL

The Shadow Demons won’t be far behind.

BLACK LIGHTNING

I couldn’t save my world before…

SUPERGIRL

BLACK LIGHTNING

(nodding in agreement)

(in the streets of STAR CITY; the ATOM, WILD DOG, and BLACK CANARY prepare for the fight of their lives; SHADOW DEMONS approach)

(the ATOM flies forward, blasting SHADOW DEMONS in his path; WILD DOG shoots his pistols at the creatures, dissolving them; BLACK CANARY uses her sonic scream to defend citizens; cut to the streets of CENTRAL CITY, quieter; REVERSE-FLASH and the FLASH exit their wormhole on the night of MARCH 18TH, 2000;  in the ALLEN household, we see a familiar scene; NORA ALLEN tucks a YOUNG BARRY into bed)

Sweet dreams, my beautiful boy.

(cut to downstairs; NORA’s wine begins to suspend in the air; REVERSE-FLASH comes crashing through the window with the FLASH on top of him; they exchange blows in flashtime, speeding around NORA in the living room; YOUNG BARRY comes downstairs, seeing the flashes of lightning; NORA urges him to stay back; back upstairs, the FLASH from 2015 appears, looking to save his mom; he goes downstairs to see HENRY ALLEN keeping his son close, begging NORA to hold on; our BARRY speeds in, putting up his hand to his past self, signaling him to not go through with saving NORA; HENRY puts his hands on YOUNG BARRY’s shoulders)

(the FLASH speeds his younger self to safety; REVERSE-FLASH grabs a knife from the kitchen and stabs NORA in the heart; back in present day CENTRAL CITY; the rest of the team is fending off the ANTI-MONITOR’s forces; HEAT WAVE and FROST team up, smothering the SHADOW DEMONS with fire and ice; CITIZEN STEEL steels up, bracing himself for their attacks, side-by-side with ELONGATED MAN, throwing his punches left, right, up, and down, eventually, sending a right hook through one of VIBE’s breaches, which saves FROST and HEAT WAVE from behind)

(cut to inside the HALL; WHITE CANARY and BATWOMAN run towards the MONITOR, the BOOK OF DESTINY within his grasp)

MONITOR

(just then, HARBINGER appears; her back to our heroes)

WHITE CANARY

MONITOR

(HARBINGER turns her neck, smiling unnervingly; her eyes begin to glow white; STAR CITY; the ATOM, WILD DOG, and BLACK CANARY fight to their last breaths, but it is not enough; the anti-matter wave consumes them and the city; a slew of flashbacks begins of the GREEN ARROW’s finest moments; back in PURGATORY; OLIVER sits across from CORRIGAN; OLIVER is now in a green cloak, eyes glowing green)
