What’s happening in Sudan?

As of Saturday, 15th of April, violence has erupted in Khartoum and other cities of Sudan as the army and a powerful paramilitary group (Rapid Support Forces) engage in a struggle for power. The two forces designate neighbourhoods as combat zones subjecting civilians to death and injuries from stray bullets, bombs and other weaponry with physical exhaustion, and mental suffering.

Amongst other necessities, cash, medical supplies, food, and water have become scarce. Hospitals in the capital have been bombed and most have been shut down completely. The remaining hospitals are running critically low on basic supplies like oxygen and water. The healthcare system collapse continues to endanger civilians across the country.

The armed conflict has claimed over 100s of lives with over 1000s of injuries, and resulted in hundreds of thousands of families trying to evacuate the country through land borders. Many countries are arranging evacuations for their nationals and employees in Sudan.
