This Act may be cited as the ‘House of Lords Act 2024’

Proposition

The Senate has effectively served the nation, however, a need has arisen to reform the structure of the legislature.

Whereas a House of Lords system would provide a more appropriate framework for Pacifico.

Establishment of the House of Lords

There shall be established a House of Lords, which shall be the upper house of the Parliament of Pacifico.

The House of Lords shall consist of members appointed in accordance with the provisions of this Act.

Members of the House of Lords shall be appointed by the Monarch.

A member may resign from the House of Lords at any time by submitting a written notice to the Monarch.

Powers and Functions of the House of Lords 

The House of Lords shall have the power to:

   Review and scrutinize legislation passed by the House of Commons,

   Propose amendments to legislation,

   Create legislation relating to the Administrative divisions of Pacifico.

Existing legislation pertaining to the Senate shall carry the name of an Act of the House of Lords (i.e. the 1st Act of the Senate shall be called the 1st Act of the House of Lords).

Members of the current Senate shall be eligible for appointment to the House of Lords.

This Act shall come into force on 7.7.24.
