Neō Gum Flower: ‘It’s white with strange red/blue/yellow/green letters all over it.’ - IGLOOGHOST
What is thought to be the Neō Gum Flower can be seen in the bottom right hand corner of certain pieces of art put out by Iglooghost, the Rinse fm show announcement, the ‘How To Listen to Neō Wax Bloom’ and a Tumblr post about ‘White Gum’.
CHARACTERS:
Xiangjiao: Xiangjiao is a witch who’s transformation into an Iglooghost was interrupted by a mysterious force, causing it to take the appearance of a stretchy worm. He/she is really sad because his/her existence consists of infinitely being blasted at lightspeed through endless wormholes into different worlds that don’t make any sense - full of floating fruit and pink mist. He/she is perennially sad and terrified because it doesn’t make any sense why he/she was randomly born into this existence.(They are sometimes voiced by IGLOOGHOST’s Sister and sometimes his Dad)
Uso(Usohachi): Uso is a mysterious cloaked bug boy who steals fruit & lives in caves made of chalk. (He is often voiced by Mr. Yote)
Yomi: Yomi is a monk from a secret forest portal. He wants to protect nature at any cost. (IGLOOGHOST dressed up as Yomi for the Chinese Nü Yr Trailer)
Lummo: Lummo is a blind witch who never died. He is trying to teach the Melon Lantern Girl’s Choir a song to revive an Ancient Superpower.
Melon Lantern Girl's Choir: A group of little witches who sing songs. They are trying very hard to learn an Ancient Hymn.
Clear Tamei: Tamei is a young gifted see-through god-in-training. He resents his fate of one day becoming a Grid God with his cohorts. Tamei is the baby version of the Grid God seen in Neō Wax Bloom.
Steel Mogu: Mogu is a moody steel racer from the future who is the head of a gang called the Xao Void Goons. He’s a Xao and being a Xao sucks, so he decides he wants the life cycle to stop and travels back in time with his fleet to kill Tamei.
Xao Void Goons/Gang/Club (Hooded Bug Goons): (See Xao)
Meru: Meru was featured briefly in the Glootech tour teaser video and is on the poster for the October 2018 tour alongside Iglooghost. They seem to be the main character in the next arc of IGLOOGHOST’s saga.
Mamu: A Pink misted, White chalky mountainous place, with floating fruit is where the majority of the events depicted in Neō Wax Bloom are set as well as the events in the Clear Tamei (EP) taking place in prehistoric Mamu. Maps or images of Mamu can be found in the background of various pieces of art by IGLOOGHOST as well as in screengrabs of music videos. We get a glimpse of Prehistoric Mamu in the Clear Tamei MV.
Xao (Xao Void City?): Steel Mogu and the Xao Void Goons are from this place. This supposedly would be where at least a portion of the Steel Mogu (EP) is set as well as seeing glimpses of it in the Clear Tamei MV. Xao Void City was first shown in one of IGLOOGHOST’s Instagram Stories
Meru World (Meru Caves): Meru seems to be from here. (We have only seen bits of this place in some of IGLOOGHOST’s Instagram Stories.
Mamunese: Mamunese was the first language that IGLOOGHOST created that accompanied the story going along with his music. It first started popping up in art he posted as well as on Album covers. On the 21/06/2016, he released a Character list that let people for the first time decode the language he had been creating and littering throughout his work. The Phonetic sound of Mamunese is still a mystery at this time. IGLOOGHOST liked the look of Chinese and Japanese characters a lot which was why he made Mamunese as he didn’t want to offend people because, “people get mad when you use foreign text”.
Xao-ese: This is the language most likely spoken by the Xao, we can see the written form of it on Steel Mogu’s top, in IGLOOGHOST’s Twitter Banner and in the Clear Tamei/Steel Mogu Era Stamps. The banner and the bottom line of the tshirt translates to ‘clear’ in English, when the top and bottom half of the symbols are rearranged. We see what the English translation should look like in IGLOOGHOST’s Clear Tamei/Steel Mogu Era Stamps. We also see what appears to be XAO written vertically in Xao-ese in the Clear Tamei/Steel Mogu Era Stamps.
Ancient Symbols: There are 2 Ancient symbols that are known of at this time. One is the Ancient Note that the Melon Lantern Girl’s Choir learn, that when they sing sends the huge eyes that caused the Neō Wax Bloom flying back into the Grid Gods head. It can also be seen inscribed on Totems in Mamu and in IGLOOGHOST’s Clear Tamei/Steel Mogu Era Stamps. The phonetic sound of this symbol first appeared on Gold Tea (ft Charlotte Day Wilson) and it is this motif that is heard next on ‘Melon Lantern Girl’s Choir’ as the Melon Lantern Girl’s Choir singing and would go on to be heard throughout Neō Wax Bloom. IGLOOGHOST confirmed that the motif was the Ancient Hymn in his Reddit AMA. The other symbol has as of yet unknown importance but it can be found in the centre of the Neō Gum Flower as well as on Totems in Mamu and in IGLOOGHOST’s Clear Tamei/Steel Mogu Era Stamps.
What the story of each song is.
The Original score of the trailer for Chinese Nü Yr. The trailer featured IGLOOGHOST dressed as Yomi wandering through a forest and discovering a portal in the sky that Xiangjiao comes flying through. The track description on Bandcamp featured this passage:
‘Eyeball Levitation
Fruit Meditation
Forest Exploration
Portal Evaporation’
Xiangjiao: Xiangjiao zooming very fast thru a stupid nonsensical space full of floating peaches & a lot of steam, which is very much getting in the way of looking for the next portal 2 escape this particularly troublesome place. He/she is ducking and bending around flying things & is crying gummy tears. At 2:04 a lot of pink mountains start growing from somewhere & Xiangjiao has to run away from them really fast.
Mametchi / Usohachi (ft. Mr Yote):
Gold Coat (ft. Cuushe): Xiangjiao is super sad and Tryna navigate outta a golden world of fabric.
Peach Rift:
“A gelatinous worm-shaped creature who wears a witch hat called Xiangjiao. He/she is really sad because his/her existence consists of infinitely being blasted through endless wormholes into different worlds that don’t make any sense - full of floating fruit and pink mist. He/she has a voice played by my little sister but sometimes by my dad. He/she is perennially sad and terrified because it doesn’t make any sense why he/she was randomly born into this existence, but he/she is also shit scared because being shot at lighspeed through wormholes is probably f**king terrifying.” - IGLOOGHOST (Taken from LittleMixTapes Chinese Nu Yr Article)
Peanut Choker: Xiangjiao being launched through a tiresome void of peanut rain.
Chinchou: Xiangjiao keeps getting tangled up in black & white grid fabric & wriggling out (Chinchou is part of Xiangjiao’s Chinese Nü Yr Journey, but not the EP. It chronologically happens between the events of Xiangjiao & Mametchi.)
Melon Lantern Girl’s Choir: Lummo attempting to teach a gang of half witted witch children a song that will revive an ancient superpower. (This came about cos Igloo met a gang of little witch kids made of rubber who smelt of synthetic melon.)
Gold Tea (ft. Charlotte Day Wilson): Usohachi, a teenage bug bandit who wears a cool black coat, sipping golden tea whilst nimbly freerunning along the pink cliffsides.
“Little Grids is kinda more of a lil free song collection whereas Chinese Nü Yr was something I put a lot more effort into. Little Grids was kinda like a lil stopgap & prelude to Neō Wax Bloom. It’s still canon tho.” - IGLOOGHOST (Taken from his Reddit AMA)
‘A Multicolour Hyperspeed Opera about little glowing beings made of gum.’
‘When a pair of giant eyeballs crash into the strange, misty world of Mamu, the mysterious forces that govern nature itself are disrupted. A life cycle of transforming creatures is thrown off balance, and the odd looking inhabitants of Mamu are forced to adapt to this calamity. These inhabitants include Yomi - a multicoloured pom-pom monk; Lummo - a wise blind witch training a band of melon coloured babies; and Uso - a sneaky bug thief hidden in a green cloak - as well as many others. As their respective stories begin to interlock, the mysteries surrounding the giant eyeballs are slowly revealed.’
They named this event...Neō Wax Bloom!
Pale Eyes:
Super Ink Burst:
Sōlar Blade: (An attack that Yomi can do) Uso - a bug boy in a cloak is stealing fruit and investigating a series of mysterious portals. Gazing inside one of them, his eyes meet with those of Yomi - a monk made of multi-coloured fog. Alarmed, Yomi leaps out of the temporal rift and begins chasing Uso across a mountain range made of chalk. (A temporal rift is a distortion in the spacetime continuum, which can allow for temporal displacement through space and time.)
White Gum: A monk called Yomi & a little bug in a cloak called Uso have a huge fight. They’re hopping over levitating fruit & firing lasers at each other. (Yomi = Gamelans/Ancient sounding stuff, Uso = Little Clinks & Clanks)
Zen Champ:
Teal Yomi / Olivine (ft. Mr. Yote):
Peanut Choker: Xiangjiao being launched through a tiresome void of peanut rain.
Göd Grid:
The Physical release of Neō Wax Bloom came packaged with a 12 Page Comic booklet and character sticker sheet. The comic detailed the events surrounding the Neō Wax Bloom, including the fight between Uso and Yomi, Xiangjiao flying through portals and Lummo teaching the Melon Lantern Girl’s Choir the Ancient Spell that would fix the problems in Mamu.
“It’s a long story. In real life, I live in this huge mansion that changes color, glows in the dark, and has a lot of floating parts/rooms. It’s a really weird looking place until you get used to it. Anyway, I have this giant garden I hang out in a lot, and I met these strange little beings through a little portal I found. I learnt about the void some of them live in that’s called ‘Mamu’, and how a giant calamity involving two huge eyeballs falling from the sky had completely screwed up their ecosystem. I made a big album inspired by all this stuff. So it’s not really a concept album, considering it all actually happened I suppose.” - IGLOOGHOST (Taken from PopMatters interview)
“I HAVE BEEN RECORDING SOUNDS EMINATING FROM IGLOOGHOST STATUES. I FIND THEM VERY INTERESTING. THESE SOUNDS ARE FIELD RECORDINGS OF DIFFERENT COLORED IGLOOGHOST HEAD STATUES EMITTING ENERGY. “ -YOMI
Void Church:
On 8th November 2017, IGLOOGHOST tweeted out a short video clip of Yomi floating in the air, with the message “Hello. My name is Yomi. I have been recording sounds from a world called Mamu. If U follow my puzzle U can listen to the sounds I’ve been collecting.” The clip also featured the Mamunese alphabet in the top left corner and a speech bubble from Yomi which when translated would lead people on an ARG (Alternate Reality Game) that would end up taking them to the album Solar Church. (To see more about the Solar Church hunt please see the attached Folder with a guide that takes you through it or you can choose to decode the tweet and find it for yourself. The album can also be found in the IGLOOGHOST archives on Soundcloud.)
Myth about Mamu = There’s a very old myth about an ancient order of beings who are referred to as Xao Void Club. They visited prehistoric Mamu through holes in the sky & they zoomed everywhere in strange shiny structures. Nobody really understood why they came or what they did, but they looked very different to anything anyone here has ever seen.
‘The double features are set in Mamu, 3000 years prior to the events of ‘Neō Wax Bloom.’ ‘We are introduced to a young, see-through, god in-training named Tamei. Although gifted, he and his little cohorts resent their fate of becoming Grid Gods - and find themselves wound up in a hyperspeed, cross-temporal battle with a fleet of mysterious, round beings.’
First Vōids:
Steel Mogu:
Black Light Ultra:
Mei Mode: Xao Void Goon’s are riding fast matte-black bikes. They are trying to shoot pinging red beams at three little monks. (Advice: When you listen to it, move your head really fast up and down and swing your arms everywhere. It makes it sound really cool.)
Niteracer:
Påleo Mamu:
New Vectors:
Clear Tamei:
Namā:
Shrine Hacker(ft. BABii): A sad little see-thru Prince (Clear Tamei) is evolving into a giant God head.
‘Clear Tamei and Steel Mogu happens three thousand years before Neō Wax Bloom, but the two EPs are from the perspective of two different little beings. Mogu is a moody steel racer who is the head of a gang called the Xao Void Goons, and Tamei is a young god-in-training. They have a big fight and it’s scary.’ - IGLOOGHOST (Taken from Acclaim Magazine Interview)
‘In Neō Wax Bloom, it was all based around the fact that the eyes of the god of Mamu had fallen out. Tamei is him when he’s a baby and training to be a god. Mogu, who’s the rival guy on the album cover, is from the future and he wants to kill the god. So he’s come back in time to try and kill Tamei.’ - IGLOOGHOST (Taken from The Fader interview)
‘Essentially, these two EPs are about a big battle between Mogu and Tamei. Mogu is a Xao, which are these weird shadowy, little beings that are born when Iglooghosts are created. That whole cycle is governed by the Grid God, and Mogu wants it all to stop, ‘cuz being a Xao sucks. He travels back in time with his fleet and shoots lasers at Tamei (cos he’s the baby Grid God). Then some cool stuff happens that I don’t wanna spoil. It’s that simple.’ - IGLOOGHOST (Taken from Exclaim interview)
‘These 2 records are prequels to Neō Wax Bloom & tie up a lot of unexplained stuff in the storyline. It’s about a gang of hooded bug goons from the future trying to kill a baby god.’ - IGLOOGHOST (Taken from Noisey Vice Interview)
