For over three decades, Eastern Congo has been at war—a war ignored by the world. A war where rape is used as a weapon, villages are erased, and hospitals meant to heal are now targets.

On January 27, the M23 armed group occupied Goma, the Democratic Republic of Congo’s second-largest city. Over 3,000 lives have been lost since. Today, that army is advancing toward Bukavu, where Panzi Hospital and Foundation, founded by Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Dr. Denis Mukwege, stand as one of the last refuges for survivors of sexual violence.

Panzi is more than a medical facility—it is a symbol of hope and resilience. In its 25 years, Panzi has treated over 83,000 survivors of rape—from infants as young as 6 months to women in their 80s. But now, this sanctuary is at risk as M23 advances toward Bukavu.

Rape is not just a consequence of this conflict—it is a deliberate weapon of war. If we stay silent, the lives of thousands of women, children, and the courageous Panzi staff are at stake.
