TEST FOR COVID-19

National US directory for COVID-19 Testing Sites

  • East Bay - Lifelong will be providing no charge COVID-19 testing, but you must have symptoms and must call 510-981-4100 first to see if you're eligible for testing.

Kaiser Permanente Northern California drive-through testing

Steps:

1. Meet CDC criteria for testing

(1) COVID 19 symptoms: fever, dry cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, thick mucus

(2) Exposure to symptomatic person, including health care workers, within 14 days of symptom onset;

(3) Travel to affected area within 14 days of symptom onset

2. Contact Primary Care Provider (phone or kp.org) to be screened.

3. If eligible: Set up an appointment for COVID 19 Drive Through screening (swabs and respiratory virus screening).

4. Self quarantine (3-7 days, subject to change) to await test results.

Stay at home

  • If you believe you have been exposed to COVID-19 and/or not sick and/or are mildly ill and can manage with Tylenol/Motrin/Gatorade, please stay home and take care of yourself. Your risk will only increase being exposed in the hospital and the Bay Area hospitals are not offering testing to you at this time.

SYMPTOMS

  • Fever (88%) and dry cough (68%) are two of the most common symptoms, followed by fatigue, thick mucus coughed from lungs, shortness of breath, muscle and joint pain, sore throat, headache and chills.

Q: If I have those symptoms, should I go to my doctor or the hospital?

  • Right now, the CDC recommends you distance yourselves from others, including your family and your pets. If you can, designate a separate bedroom and bathroom for yourself.
  • Call your provider and tell them you suspect COVID-19. Remind them of any travel and if you are over 60 or have underlying conditions like diabetes or a heart condition.
  • Don't share dishes/glasses with anyone; wash hands often; clean surfaces frequently. Stay hydrated.
  • The CDC does not recommend you go to the hospital unless you have shortness of breath, persistent chest pain, new confusion or strong lethargy, or a bluish tint to lips or face.
  • CDC's hotline number for questions: 800-CDC-INFO (800-232-4636).
