Nintendo Switch 2 confirmed info

The leaker:

  • The leaker providing the information (u/NextHandheld) is NOT a developer (stated by themselves).
  • The leaker confirms that he doesn’t have the NS2 on his hands and it is understood from what is read that he only has a certain time limit to see it / touch it. All of the information provided comes from the memory of the leaker so don’t get mad if the info is too vague.
  • The leaker can’t turn on the console.
  • It was stated by the leaker that he will be able to provide more extensive info on the 25th of December.
  • The leaker is obviously not from the future (lmao).
  • Apparently, the leaker gatekeeps info about NS2 because if he did release any heavy info (like photos) it would be obvious who the leaker is and thus the leaker would end up getting caught. It is later stated by the leaker that on the 25th of December 2 people will test and see the NS2, thus, it will be harder for Nintendo to identify the leaker.
  • The leaker is NOT Geoff Keighley.

The console:

  • The official name of the console is “Nintendo Switch 2”.
  • The logo stamped on the back of the console looks like this (the photo provided is just a mockup made by u/DjuncleMC):
  • The game cartridge slot is the same as the old Nintendo Switch in terms of size (supposedly), the only difference is that the Nintendo Switch 2 cartridges have a “teeth” section which prevents them from being inserted in old Nintendo Switches.
  • The screen of the NS2 is LCD and the same size as of the Steam Deck (7.4”).
  • Leaker states he hasn’t “noticed” a microphone implemented with the switch.
  • The NS2 has a “U”-shaped kickstand.
  • The NS2 is stated to be “lighter” than the old Switch and it is as thinner as the old one.
  • The “CAD” leaks were shown to have a USB-C port on the top of the console, the leaker states that it is real and that its use is probably for charging but other than that they have no idea.
  • The colors for the Joy-Cons of the NS2 that the leaker saw were “dark grey all around”. Meaning that the colors of the joycons surround the whole console.
  • Bezels of the NS2 are quite big.
  • The leaker has been told that apart from the grey one he has seen there might be a white one and a third game-related themed one.
  • Leaker says that NS2 is similar to a Steam Deck but without all of the problems related to thickness and weight.
  • The NS2 preserves the microSD card slot.
  • Leaker guesses that the price of the NS2 will be around 399$-499$.

The system and software:

  • Themes haven’t been confirmed due to the leaker not being able to turn on the console.
  • Leaker has no info about software and it seems he won’t for a while.

The Joy-Cons:

  • When you insert the new Joy-Cons on the NS2 they make its characteristic “click” sound (not the artificial one coming from the speakers but the irl one) and it has a new strong magnetic connection which makes the handling of the console way more sturdy.
  • Next to the home button there’s a new button which has a letter “C” on it, its functionality is unknown.
  • The buttons of the NS2 Joy-Cons are slightly bigger.
  • The Joy-Con release button looks different and has a “surprise” functionality.
  • The leaker states that the joysticks have a surprising “Hall Effect”. This was apparently told by an engineer to the leaker.
  • This “Hall Effect” apparently fixes drift problems we used to have.
  • ZR and ZL triggers are big and the leaker believes they’re not analog.
  • The Joy-Cons have a new functionality which is related to “lasers”.
  • Buttons don’t seem pressure sensitive to the leaker.
  • From what the leaker states, you might be able to connect old Joy-Cons to NS2 but apparently they won’t charge because the NS2 doesn’t have the same rail system as the old Switch. It is unknown if the old Switch will be able to connect to the new Joy-Cons.
  • The leaker states that the top thumb (left side) of the Joy-Cons will have a new gimmick which hasn’t been seen before.
  • The SL and SR buttons are much bigger and are magnetic.
  • The rumor of the Joy-Cons having a “different-colored section in the middle of the controllers” is false.

The dock:

  • The dock of the NS2 is curved on its edges and the back, the dock doesn’t cover the top of the screen.
  • The dock has the same amount of ports as the dock of the OLED Switch: 2 USB-A ports on its side, 1 USB-C, 1 HDMI and 1 Ethernet port on the inside.
  • The dock has no eGPU.
  • The dock of the switch has an HDMI type of 4k30. This isn’t the only available configuration for when the NS2 is docked, more info is yet to be revealed.

Interesting stuff/ details:

  • Leaker confirms that the “CAD” leaks we’ve seen are real and he pretty much has officially seen what we’ve seen.
  • The leaker states that a special edition of the NS2 will come in a bundle with a game that has a characteristic number “9” on it, the leaker stated that this “9” game is a first-party game (most likely to be MK9). The leaker has also hinted that the themed switch that will come out at release will be of an IP that to this day still doesn’t have its own themed switch. It is theorized that it will be a Mario Kart themed NS2. The leaker has stated that the name of the supposed MK9 isn’t MK9, the leaker states that they know what game it is but that they didn’t see a clear “9”. (I suppose that what the leaker is saying is that he was told that it was MK9 but that the name of the game isn’t directly MK9, this aroused confusion due to the leaker saying that the game had a “9” on the title, now we know that it’s MK9 but that it’s NOT named MK9 [or that’s what I understood]).
  • The leaker has photos of the NS2.
  • Leaker confirms that the information provided of the NS2 comes from a final release retail model.
  • The leaker has been told that a proper NS2 announcement is scheduled for January 2025. This info is not clarified and the leaker states that a “supposed” meeting is scheduled for the 10-11th of January which will discuss further official announcements of the NS2 and its proper release in March.
  • The leaker confirms that their gatekeeping until christmas has nothing to do with an upcoming announcement (in December).
  • The leaker has been told that the console might be released mid-March but the source of this info isn’t first-party.
  • As for 15/12/2024 the leaker will get more demo time with the NS2.
  • The leaker doesn’t know if the different color editions for the NS2 will all be released at the same time or staggered.
  • The leaker states that the reason he’s able to leak all of this info is similar to the reason iPhone models were being leaked.
  • The leaker has vaguely said that they might not release any big info since Nintendo might have a guess of who the leaker is from just the date of the reddit post alone.

Packaging:

  • The leaker got the NS2 with no packaging, but later on confirms the box is red.
  • When buying the NS2 you’ll get wristbands included.
