OBD11 Mods/Tweaks on 2019 VW Atlas SEL

*All changes performed at your own risk! Start off with a full factory scan and save. Also map every adaptation channel for every module and save. MQB platform is the modern one and VW switched almost every controller over to adaptation channels.

*Items with a check have been performed.

*Items with an orange title are mods that should be able to be performed on SEL-P models. Coding is carried over from my 2019 Tiguan SEL-P R Line.*

*Items in red under the In Progress section, I’m still trying to locate or need to see if possible. As some past options are no longer available.

ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control)

ACC Automatic Resume ✔

Pseudo Traffic Jam Assist (TJA), needs VCP in order to flash camera firmware to allow under 40 mph lane assist to stay active on NAR models. No known .zdc file for the Atlas, and using a .zdc file from another model based upon A5 control module HW/SW is not suggested as the parameters would differ due to difference in vehicle size.

NO NEED TO RUN BASIC SETTINGS WITH STATIC HEADLIGHTS FOUND ON MK1 ATLAS.

If errors are present or you have newer models that have a startup sequence, you may need to perform Basic Settings. I’ve added the process below. I do not have access to newer models, so again perform at your own risk.

After changes are made Basic Settings needs to be ran for changes to be accepted by the control module, see steps below.

OBD11 you will need to go in Basic Settings under 4B to have the module accept changes made to the headlights. To accept the changes, you need to be on a level surface, ignition on, engine off, and then you’ll want to leave the keys in the car while you stand outside to not introduce any additional weight to the car. You want to run Basic headlamp setting first, and it will appear nothing is happening but wait about 10 to 15 seconds before stopping the process. Once done go back one level and then run Acknowledge Basic Setting for around 10 to 15 seconds. This will now write the new settings to the headlights and clear the error that takes place from these changes. Note if you back out any coding performed, you need to run Basic Settings again so that the changes back are accepted.

Dude’s instructions

The time limit ("Verfügbarkeitstimer") seems to be encoded in the next couple channels. My 7R came coded like this:

(4)-After-run for park light-Faktor fuer Verfügbarkeitstimer

Faktor fuer x5 Minuten

(5)-After-run for park light-Standlicht-Nachlaufzeit

255 min

(6)-After-run for park light-Standlicht-Verfügbarkeit

6 s

Ignore the incorrect time unit on the last channel (6). The time limit can be set with the unit and multiplier in channel (4) combined with (6). In the above case, (x5 minutes and 6) = 30 minutes.

I've played around with Verfügbarkeitstimer and it allows you to set a maximum time limit after which the SSPLs will turn off. For example, Faktor fuer x1 Sekunde in (4) and 30 in (6) will have the lights turn off in 30 seconds.

Performed in VCDS originally, so may require a little searching. Beauty of OBD11 is that the color sets are grouped together by value, not by color. 3rd LED Side Lights in the rear tail

This will allow the 3 LED lights on the side of the rear lights to flash with the turn signals. Also will flash in unison with the parking lights on.

Video - Rear Side Light Marker function mod from former Tiguan

DRL outer tail/inner tail blinker (Dunkelphase aka Urban Joke/Dancing Blinkers) This comes from my former Tiguan, will take work due to amber signals in the Atlas

*This mod can be performed in different manners, and this is unique to my current setup. If you add the other options listed you will keep your SSPL, but currently will lose 4 Brake Light mod. 4 Brake Light mod tested on priority channel E and while functional during the day or switch set to 0, it defeats this tail light function when the brake is engaged. The inner tail falls to priority E brake light, but when the brakes are released Urban Joke turn signal is back to functioning properly. I removed the 4 Brake Light function from my coding entirely. I did not update the notes below for the 4 Brake Light mod for those that would rather have that over this particular mod. This mod was also tested to ensure that the Outer tail light still functioned as expected during braking at night and can confirm on a Euro Switch that the lights function properly in all positions on the switch.

*Note the Lichtfunktion channels below include coding from Single Side Parking Light (SSPL) found above on F channel for the Outer Tails.

Leuchte20BR LA71-Lichtfunktion A 20 – Brake Light or Bremslicht

Leuchte20BR LA71-Lichtfunktion B 20 – Blinken links Dunkelphase

Leuchte20BR LA71-Lichtfunktion C 20 – Blinken links Hellphase

Leuchte20BR LA71-Lichtfunktion E 20 – Standlicht Allgemein (Schlusslicht: Positionlicht: Begrenzungslicht)

Leuchte20BR LA71-Lichtfunktion F 20 – Parklicht links (beidseitiges Parklicht aktiviert li & re)

Right Outer Tail:

Leuchte21BR RC8-Lichtfunktion A 21 – Brake Light or Bremslicht

Leuchte21BR RC8-Lichtfunktion B 21 – Blinken rechts Dunkelphase

Leuchte21BR RC8-Lichtfunktion C 21 – Blinken rechts Hellphase

Leuchte21BR RC8-Lichtfunktion E 21 – Standlicht Allgemein (Schlusslicht: Positionlicht: Begrenzungslicht)

Leuchte21BR RC8-Lichtfunktion F 21 – Parking light right

For the inner tails we need to adjust not only light function channels, but we need to adjust the Dimming Direction & Dimmwert level on CD since we are making a change to light function channel C, this is key to making sure it works in all situations (day and night).

Left Inner Tail:

Leuchte23SL HLC10-Dimming Direction CD 23 – change to minimize

Leuchte23SL HLC10-Dimmwert CD 23 – change to 127

Leuchte23SL HLC-Lichtfunktion A 23 – Standlicht allgemein (Schlusslicht: Positionlicht: Begrenzungslicht)

Leuchte23SL HLC-Lichtfunktion B 23 – Blinken links Hellphase

Leuchte23SL HLC-Lichtfunktion C 23 – Blinken links Dunkelphase

Right Inner Tail:

Leuchte24SL HRA65-Dimmwert CD 24 – change to 127

Leuchte24SL HRA65-Lichtfunktion A 24 – Standlicht allgemein (Schlusslicht: Positionlicht: Begrenzungslicht)

Lower HBA activation speed (Still trying to find items highlighted in red, looks to be hardcoded and not accessible)

Supposedly it's under A5 and you do have to enter security code, but VCDS tells you what it is. Going to look around in 09 since that is where I enabled permanent HBA.

I did NOT change:

"Night vehicle detection activation brightness"

"Night vehicle detection deactivation brightness"

As those are likely the oncoming car headlight luminosity values. I didn't come across any oncoming traffic in my test. So these may need to be tweaked later.

Main_Beam_Assist_Urban_Area_Detection

I set it to OFF, now it works in darkish areas, not just pitch black ones.

Urban_Leaving_Velocity

I did not change.

"Speed threshold for high beam recommendation off"

Set to 10 km/h

"Activation speed for high beam assistant"

Set to 20 km/h

*Update, the above mod appears to be hard coded now. Leaving it in place if someone finds it, but I doubt it. Dynamical low beam appears to assist with this lack of mod (see Exterior Lights above).
