Focus Verse: "Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfector of faith." Hebrews 12:2
This month, our church transitions into the Book of Hebrews. This year our reading plan has progressed from the Book of John to Acts and now to Hebrews. This is a fantastic order of reading for those who may be newer to studying the Scriptures. John helped us to see who Jesus is, Acts helped us to see how the Church started, and Hebrews will help us see that Jesus is better than anything this world has to offer. We have a tendency to run to other things to complete us, but Hebrews will help us learn that only Christ can complete us. God honors all who put their faith in Him. This book was written during a time of intense social and religious pressure, this letter was originally sent to Jewish Christians who were tempted to retreat from their faith in Jesus and return to the familiar safety of Old Testament rituals.
The author of Hebrews is one of the great mysteries of the New Testament. While many throughout history attributed it to the Apostle Paul, modern scholars also suggest figures like Barnabas, Apollos, or Priscilla. Because the writer never signs their name, we are reminded that the ultimate "Author" of this word is the Holy Spirit.
Our reading plan will look a little different this month and give you some freedom with a time frame to read a certain amount of passages or certain chapters. Each week will have a reflection question on the last page for you to sit in and reflect upon.

Weekly Reflection Questions
Week 1: In what ways am I currently "drifting" (Heb. 2:1), and how can I anchor myself back in Christ?
Week 2: How does knowing that Jesus "sympathizes with our weaknesses" (Heb. 4:15) change the way I pray?
Week 3: If Christ is the "once for all" sacrifice, why do I still try to "earn" God’s favor?
Week 4: Looking at the heroes of faith in Chapter 11, what is the "weight" I need to lay aside to run my race better?
