XV - Magnus The Red
I - The Magus
Astrological:
 Mercury
Rules: Alpharius, Lion El’Jonson
Exalted:
 Lion El’Jonson
Fall:
 Konrad Curze
Detriment:
 Jaghatai Khan, Konrad Curze
Alchemical:
 Mercury
Qabala: 12th path, 8th Sephira

Character:

Magnus's mind and life will be entirely centered on his researches, and he has a tendency to see everything around him as a tool or a project. He tends to draw a crowd of fascinated but (if they're sensible) wary spectators, though he will keep them at a carefully calculated distance. He will also draw a smaller, closer crowd of acolytes eager to learn from him, but even these will be kept at arm's length. Magnus is ultimately a loner and does not like being held down by commitments to people, groups, or even any cause other than the one he has set his mind to, and that will be something vastly above and beyond normal human concerns.

Generally charismatic, but through mystery. Incredibly secretive, especially in that he creates whatever false impression he requires and shows no one the full extent of his knowledge or intentions. In danger from isolation and arrogance, he needs occasional reminding that he does not have all the answers and that he is not above being manipulated just as he manipulates.

All direction, and misdirection. Magnus masterfully directs whatever force he encounters to his own ends, but this does not mean he truly understands it. He is simply able to point it in the direction he thinks it should go. His view of the world is built on carefully constructed formulas, and he extrapolates what the big picture should be like from there. Therefore he can become too focused on how things should be, and how to make them that way, and not factor in how things are.

It should be pointed out that of all the cards, the personality of Magnus is the closest to that of The Emperor.

At best, a supreme and hugely adaptable intellect, capable of solving problems almost before they appear, a masterful sorcerer and an excellent if eccentric tutor.

At worst, indrawn, secretive, a cunning and hidden manipulator, convinced of his methods and arrogant in his superiority, viewing all things as tools to be used in his pursuits.

Relations:

The Second: Often tense. The Second is the main rival of Magnus, and the only who frequently shows himself utterly beyond Magnus's comprehension. The Second is effortlessly capable of bursting Magnus's bubble, and though this is frustrating it stops him becoming too arrogant. Magnus is best able to translate The Second's mystic insight into a more immediately understandable form. Together, they represent absolute control (Magus) and understanding (High Priest) of the Warp.

Horus: Tend to argue, and the arguments often get very personal. Horus identifies strongly with his goals and resents Magnus's interference. Magnus may consider Horus's goals petty or misguided, and would not be afraid to say so despite Horus viewing this as a deeply personal insult. (Mercury/Aries)

Fulgrim: Distant. Fulgrim would probably be broadly accepting of Magnus's pursuits, but find them rather out of his sphere. Magnus may consider Fulgrim shallow and/or naive.

Lorgar: Magnus is put off by Lorgar's rigidity, Lorgar by Magnus's iconoclasm. When they do talk, it will be straight to the point, well considered on both sides, and about very deep issues. (Mercury/Taurus)

Alpharius: Alpharius is likely to be picked up by Magnus as an acolyte. Alpharius appreciates the constant intellectual stimulation from being around Magnus, and Magnus appreciates Alpharius' quick mind and eagerness. However, if the relationship becomes too exclusive both become impractical, driving each other to extreme flights of intellectual fancy and becoming more and more divorced from their less intellectual and more direct brothers. (Mercury/Gemini [Mercury Rules])

Roboute Guilliman: Roboute Guilliman has a tendency to misinterpret Magnus. After a while, Magnus just stops bothering. (Mercury/Cancer)

Ferrus Manus: Magnus has a tendency to play devil's advocate to Ferrus Manus's ideas, which can create tension when done just for the sake of it. Ferrus Manus values Magnus's intelligence and analytical mind, but not his constant experimentation. (Mercury/Libra)

Lion El'Jonson: An extremely valuable relationship. Lion El'Jonson focuses Magnus's intellect onto concrete, practical goals, particularly how to improve situations. Together they can form practical but brilliant plans, whereas alone Lion El'Jonson will tend simply to brood over and over on one thing and Magnus will veer off towards the impractically baroque and grandiose. They understand each other's desire for solitude, ironically allowing them to spend time together without grating on each other's nerves. (Mercury/Gemini [Mercury Rules, Mercury Exalted])

The Eleventh: A bit of a wildcard relationship, which could go a number of ways. If Magnus is too withdrawn and arrogant he will have trouble getting along with The Eleventh.

Vulcan: Vulcan rarely requires Magnus's advice, and Magnus does not like being dismissed lightly. Magnus can be rather too high handed for Vulcan's liking. This relationship is much like between Magnus and Horus, but without the bitterly personal edge. (Mercury/Leo)

Sanguinius: Sanguinius and Magnus tend to leave each other alone. Both are after the answers to the universe, but both are on a different path. Magnus feels safe in the knowledge that his way is right, Sanguinius is quietly convinced that Magnus is missing something important.

Mortarion: Suspicious on both sides. Mortarion's scrutiny is always on the deepest and darkest secrets, and Magnus has plenty. Mortarion is also the most aware of how intense and transforming the powers Magnus uses can be when they get out of control. (Mercury/Scorpio)

Jaghatai Khan: Magnus can be very persuasive towards Jaghatai Khan, encouraging him to try out every crazy new scheme Magnus comes up with and convincing him that this time it really is the solution to everything. Both are focused and exacting, but their worldviews are ultimately at odds as Jaghatai Khan looks far more at the wider picture than the details. If Magnus manages to dominate Jaghatai Khan too much the relationship becomes destructive, Jaghatai Khan becoming little more than a tool. (Mercury/Sagittarius [Mercury in Detriment])

Perturabo: Magnus is far too impractical and adventurous for Perturabo, who is also suspicious of Magnus's motives. Magnus finds Perturabo lacking in vision and flexibility. The relationship could end up as one long, simmering argument. (Mercury/Capricorn)

Angron: The opposite ends of energy use. Magnus is far too refined and subtle for Angron's liking, Angron far too blunt and indiscriminate for Magnus.

Corvus Corax: Both idealists and iconoclasts, will probably be most interested in discussing philosophical ideas. Magnus might be a little frustrated by Corvus Corax's occasional hesitancy in accepting ideas that fall outside his personal boundaries.

Konrad Curze: Quite possibly these two will detest each other. Magnus will view Konrad Curze as weak willed and an intellectual coward. Konrad Curze, due to his psychic susceptibility and possible paranoia, will be suspicious of Magnus's every move in his direction and violently pessimistic about his work. (Mercury/Pisces [Mercury in Detriment, Mercury in Fall])

Rogal Dorn: Might, against all probability, be a close relationship.

Leman Russ: Leman Russ ultimately represents the end of what Magnus has built. Magnus should recognise the need to wipe things out and start again if everything goes wrong, and accept that Leman Russ plays an important role in holding his creation in check. If he cannot, this will be a very difficult relationship.

II - The Second
II - The High Priestess
Astrological:
 Luna
Rules: Roboute Guilliman
Exalted: Lorgar
Fall: Mortarion
Detriment: Perturabo
Alchemical: Silver
Qabala: 13th path, 9th Sephira

Character:

Deeply psychic, the only one on a level with Magnus. However his method is entirely different; whereas Magnus directs, The Second observes. Magnus uses the Warp, but The Second understands it. The Second is intuitively capable of predicting the motions and interactions of systems as a whole, and guiding them holistically.

Secretive and mystical, people tend to see their own desires, hopes and needs reflected in his personality. He is an expert at using this to illuminate, or manipulate, people. No two people can quite agree what The Second is really like. His presence is deeply hypnotic.

Inspirational, almost to the point of never having to do a thing. Though he never seems to tell anyone his plans, they always end up carried out to perfection anyway. Inspiring intense loyalty through being able to give people a sense of belonging in the wider scheme of things. In dealing with people he gives the impression of seeing everyone as if they were his closest, dearest companion, and can read them as if they were. He is always aware of everyone's hopes, doubts, secrets and hidden motives.

Always willing to listen and lend advice, but rarely without being asked first. Gives the distinct impression that he cannot be told anything he does not already know, and can seem very detached from practical and material concerns.

The Second is ultimately the one who can communicate an understanding of the highest goals of The Emperor to the rest of the system, individually and in ways they can each understand.

At best, a being of pure divine grace, calm, guiding, illuminating, and capable of giving a deep sense of belonging.

At worst, the ultimate tempter, conjuring unattainable, ever shifting but irresistible goals and twisting people's minds and desires without them even realizing what is happening, all for his own amusement.

Relations:

Magnus: Often tense.

Fulgrim: A very important relationship, allowing Fulgrim to connect his more purely intellectual and spiritual brothers, whom he otherwise finds slightly obtuse. Fulgrim can bring The Second down from the clouds somewhat and connect to the real rather than just the spiritual world. (these paths intersect on the Tree of Life)

Horus: Tend to overreact to each other, though once Horus concedes and acknowledges the value of The Second's advice things quickly blow over. (Moon/Aries)

Lorgar: An extremely valuable relationship. The Second's ability to identify with people's needs and reactions can stop Lorgar becoming overly strict and dogmatic and allow him to be more understanding of the need for flexibility and change, while Lorgar can turn The Second's individually based advice into a more general and practical structure of teaching. (Moon/Taurus [Moon Exalted])

Alpharius: While Alpharius eagerly digests anything The Second has to say, he tends to miss the point somewhat and is quickly distracted by something new anyway. The Second may become exasperated with his inability to stay focused. (Moon/Gemini)

Roboute Guilliman: Roboute Guilliman can find that The Second is the only one he feels comfortable sharing his deeper emotions with, and can lose a bit too much emotional restraint when dealing with him. While this is an important relationship for The Second, it can also become a little taxing if Roboute Guilliman starts to become over dependent on his support and advice. (Moon/Cancer [Moon Rules])

Ferrus Manus: The Second is wary of expressing anything that Ferrus Manus might not want to hear, and though both have an innate sense of balance and fairness they express it in very different ways. Ferrus Manus may consider The Second too soft on transgressors. (Moon/Libra)

The Lion: The Lion tends to over analyze The Second's advice, and has trouble acting on it as he frequently can't make logical sense of it. (Moon/Virgo)

The Eleventh: Like minded in many issues, and should get along.

Vulcan: Appreciate each other's compassionate nature, but Vulcan may find The Second's indirectness uncomfortable.

Sanguinius: Sanguinius is one of the only ones to have any true insight into The Second, and they can often seem like two of a kind.

Mortarion: Mortarion's dark intensity tends to disturb the calm The Second generally projects. They both recognise the dark side of themselves and each other when they are together. (Moon/Scorpio [Moon in Fall])

Jaghatai Khan: The Second will frequently bring up Jaghatai Khan on his accidental lack of tact. (Moon/Sagittarius)

Perturabo: Perturabo is critical of The Second's advice and approach, and wary of his motives in reaching out to him. The Second finds Perturabo one of the most difficult of his brothers to read, and may distrust him because of it. (Moon/Capricorn)

Angron: Distant. Neither wants to have to deal with the other personally.

Corvus: Share an interest in the wellbeing of groups, though Corvus finds it difficult to grasp The Second's one-to-one approach and tends to focus on the whole rather than the parts. (Moon/Aquarius)

Konrad Curze: The Second and Konrad Curze are both powerful psychic receptors, and together heighten each other's power to dangerous levels. However, The Second is well placed to teach Konrad Curze how to handle his psychic visions. (Moon/Pisces)

Rogal Dorn: Potentially a very strong pair, Rogal Dorn working more in the public light and The Second behind the scenes.

Leman Russ: May appreciate the fact that they are balancing opposites, and have a surprisingly close relationship despite their clear differences in nature.

III - Fulgrim
III - The Empress
Astrological:
 Venus
Rules:
 Lorgar, Ferrus Manus
Exalted:
 Konrad Curze
Fall:
 Lion El’Jonson
Detriment:
Horus, Mortarion
Alchemical:
 Salt, Copper
Qabala: 14th path, 7th Sephira

Character:

Particularly magnetic and charismatic, and unlike those other of his brothers prone to gathering crowds of admirers (Magnus, The Second, Horus and Lorgar) he genuinely welcomes them rather than keeping them at arm's length. Due to desire for close emotional relationships but also for harmony, Fulgrim is at risk of surrounding himself most closely with sycophants (more by accident than by design). Generally though he will do his best to get along with everyone, though he might well take rebuffing his advances badly. Emotional relationships are far more important to him than intellectual ones, and genuinely spiritual ones might take some encouraging.

Not shallow by any means, but can appear that way because he keeps nothing hidden. Very open and genuine, he is as he is right the way through. The only thing he keeps to himself is his lack of self-confidence, which he may not even realize. This stems from the fact that, rather than being self-sufficient, he is overly reliant on his relationships with others for his sense of self and purpose.

Sensual, and an appreciator of beauty in all forms but also quite capable of finding beauty in most things. Probably has a touch of possessiveness towards both people and objects, and an unwillingness to let go of any connection he has formed.

Very accepting of others’ idiosyncrasies, even if he doesn't personally understand them. Hates to see anyone unhappy or discontent, but will probably flounder if they don't respond to his usual methods of friendship and sympathy.

At best, open, friendly, idealistic but practically so, gregarious, and diplomatic. As close as you can get to a figure of the divine mother whilst being a demigod death machine (and these two ideas aren't as incompatible as they seem).

At worst, materialistic, self indulgent, self-centered, overdramatic, overwrought and in short a screaming diva.

Relations:

Magnus: Distant. Fulgrim would probably be broadly accepting of Magnus's pursuits, but find them rather out of his sphere. Magnus may consider Fulgrim shallow and/or naive.

The Second: A very important relationship, allowing Fulgrim to connect his more purely intellectual and spiritual brothers, whom he otherwise finds slightly obtuse. Fulgrim can bring The Second down from the clouds somewhat and connect to the real rather than just the spiritual world. (these paths intersect on the Tree of Life)

Horus: The relationship would certainly curb Fulgrim's tendency towards self-satisfaction and idleness, but also bring out the potential to slide into excess. Ultimately Horus is in control here, and whatever things may look like on the surface he always gets Fulgrim going his way. (Venus/Aries [Venus in Detriment])

Lorgar: The relationship would make Fulgrim less flighty and more grounded, and Lorgar more accepting of divergence from the rules. Things could become fractious if Lorgar is overly restrictive, functional, or dogmatic, but under most circumstances Fulgrim, along with The Second, should be a mitigating influence. (Venus/Taurus [Venus in Rulership])

Alpharius: Superficial, social getting along. Friendly but with no deeper relationship. (Venus/Gemini)

Roboute Guilliman: Tend to throw each other rather off balance, each whipping up the other's more passionately emotional nature without really knowing why. (Venus/Cancer)

Ferrus Manus: A perfect fit for each other. Brings out the appreciation of balance and beauty in both, and in a very practical manner. Also brings out the reconciling, diplomatic side of Fulgrim, and smoothes out the critical harshness that can be a part of Ferrus Manus. (Venus/Libra [Venus in Rulership])

Lion El'Jonson: Brings out each other's obsession with detail and perfectionism. Probably constantly criticizing each other. Fulgrim cannot understand Lion El'Jonson's withdrawal and self-imposed asceticism, nor Lion El'Jonson Fulgrim's gregariousness and materialism. (Venus/Virgo [Venus in Fall])

The Eleventh: Both gregarious, accepting, and gracious. Generally get along, though Fulgrim can find The Eleventh too adventurous and The Eleventh finds Fulgrim too material and possessive.

Vulcan: Warm when getting along, but the slightest hint of criticism from either side has the potential to set off volcanic, if quickly forgotten, arguments. (Venus/Leo)

Sanguinius: Fulgrim is more sympathetic to Sanguinius's withdrawal than to Lion El'Jonson's, but still doesn't really understand it.

Mortarion: Brings out the depths of both, but not in an entirely positive way. Put together their sheer intensity of focus can grow to the point of dangerous morbidity. (Venus/Scorpio [Venus in Detriment])

Jaghatai Khan: Fulgrim loses his usual diplomatic skills when dealing with Jaghatai Khan. Jaghatai Khan's constant rushing around without stopping to appreciate things puts Fulgrim rather on edge and makes him uncomfortable, but Jaghatai Khan is often too busy (or tactless) to notice. (Venus/Sagittarius)

Perturabo: The suspicious, secretive and slightly manipulative nature of Perturabo makes the open and gregarious Fulgrim feel threatened and defensive. However, Perturabo is the best one to show Fulgrim how to extract the most from a relationship rather than being walked all over, and one of the few who will understand Fulgrim's tendency towards possessiveness and hoarding. (Venus/Capricorn)

Angron: Mutually distant, with a degree of distaste. Each will grate on the other's sensibilities.

Corvus Corax: Mutually idealistic and get on on an intellectual level, but no great connection on an emotional level. (Venus/Aquarius)

Konrad Curze: A mutually beneficial relationship. Fulgrim helps Konrad Curze to appreciate the beauty of the world, and prevents him from living entirely in his own head. In return Konrad Curze can open up the spiritual/psychic potential of Fulgrim, preventing him from living entirely through purely emotional relationships and the material. (Venus/Pisces [Venus in Exaltation])

Rogal Dorn: Fulgrim appreciates the drive and lack of hidden motives in Rogal Dorn, but may slightly envy his self-sufficiency and self-confidence.

Leman Russ: Approximate opposites, but not quite so fractious as with Angron. They appreciate each other's desire to create a better world. But as with Jaghatai Khan, Fulgrim distrusts Leman Russ's blunt directness, lack of tact and unwillingness to settle for a moment and appreciate the finer things in life.

The Emperor: As with Magnus, Fulgrim may find the goings on of The Emperor slightly alienating and beyond him. Mediation is needed, particularly from The Second who bridges the gap between Fulgrim and Magnus, and tones down the rigidity of Lorgar. Via those three in particular can the side of The Emperor most mysterious to Fulgrim be made clearer.

The World: Fulgrim has one of the closest relationships to the World, combining idealism with practicality, acceptance, and simple but deep appreciative joy. He works very much for them rather than himself, but with the danger of naively assuming that everyone will view the paradise he wants to create in the same way as he does.

XVI - Horus
IV - The Emperor
Astrological:
 Aries
Ruler: Angron
Exalts: Rogal Dorn
Fall: The World
Detriment:
 Fulgrim
Alchemical:
 Sulphur, Calcination
Qabala: 28th path (or 15th)

Character:

Charismatic and commanding, he will automatically take charge of any situation he finds himself in. He is a natural and skilled leader, but not at all comfortable taking orders in turn.

He is very much involved in forging an identity, but unlike Fulgrim who requires validation from others Horus tends to act as judge and jury of his works himself. While he is capable of taking advice he does not rely on it. He may do so because he is aware of the need to balance other views against his own, but it may be a more cynical tool to make people feel they have had an input or influence on Horus's thoughts. While Horus can be sociable, he is more likely to have followers than friends.

Even at his best, Horus is inescapably self-centered. He is absolutely confident that he is right and works entirely for his own aims. However, he identifies absolutely with his goals and if these are noble Horus's actions need not be ego driven. He can become extremely stubborn and fiercely argumentative should his orders or goals be questioned, as to him this amounts to a personal attack.

Horus forms a trio with Vulcan and Jaghatai Khan, focused on action and identity. Jaghatai Khan recognises the conflict between the individual identity and that of the cosmos, Horus forms and asserts identity, and Vulcan makes this identity stable and accepted by others. This trio in turn represents three aspects of the personality of Leman Russ.

At best, charismatic, energetic, an excellent leader and a skilled diplomat.

At worst, domineering, egomaniac, stubborn, quarrelsome, overconfident and over ambitious.

Relations:

Magnus: Tend to argue, and the arguments often get very personal. Horus identifies strongly with his goals and resents Magnus's interference. Magnus may consider Horus's goals petty or misguided, and would not be afraid to say so despite Horus viewing this as a deeply personal insult. (Mercury/Aries)

The Second: Tend to overreact to each other, though once Horus concedes and acknowledges the value of The Second's advice things quickly blow over. (Moon/Aries)

Fulgrim: The relationship would certainly curb Fulgrim's tendency towards self-satisfaction and idleness, but also bring out the potential to slide into excess. Ultimately Horus is in control here, and whatever things may look like on the surface he always gets Fulgrim going his way. (Venus/Aries [Venus in Detriment])

Lorgar: As opposites, have the potential to bring out the best or the worst in each other. May come into conflict over relationships to Fulgrim or Angron. (Aries/Taurus [Semi-Sextile])

Alpharius: Mutual understanding, based on drive and ambition. As Horus is interested in control and rulership whereas Alpharius is driven simply to understand, their ambitions do not cause them to come into conflict and they can even be very useful to each other. (Aries/Gemini [Sextile])

Roboute Guilliman: Tension. Have differing plans they want to set in motion. Horus simply wants to rule, regardless of how or why, whereas Roboute Guilliman wants to establish certainty and security. May come to additional conflict over Angron. (Aries/Cancer [Cardinal Square])

Ferrus Manus: An understanding of each other can be achieved, but the relationship will be tense. Ferrus Manus in particular may not agree with how Horus treats people. (Aries/Libra [Opposition])

Lion El'Jonson: There is some hidden, behind-the-scenes connection between these two, which should make their interaction slightly more harmonious despite their lack of common ground. (Aries/Virgo [Quincunx Antiscia])

The Eleventh: Horus would rather keep a tighter rein on things than The Eleventh, and is not impressed by his happy-go-lucky attitude. The Eleventh can find Horus too proud or too politically cynical. (Jupiter/Aries)

Vulcan: Warm and friendly, provided neither side has ego issues. (Aries/Leo [Fire Trine])

Sanguinius: Complete opposites, they may equally come into conflict or appreciate the balance they can give each other.

Mortarion: Relations will be tense unless one is willing to make a major adaptation to the other. However, both have a similar intensity in pursuing goals. (Aries/Scorpio [Quincunx])

Jaghatai Khan: A good social match, but if they come to blows it can be explosive. Both prefer to do their own thing and Horus's assertiveness can come into conflict with Jaghatai Khan's more balanced and calculated outlook. (Aries/Sagittarius [Fire Trine])

Perturabo: Tension. Have differing plans they want to set in motion. Horus simply wants to rule, regardless of how or why, whereas Perturabo wants to establish a firm and inflexible rule of law. Both are determined and stubborn, and Perturabo may see through Horus's more cynical political maneuvering and refuse to get caught up in it. (Aries/Capricorn [Cardinal Square])

Angron: Horus knows exactly how to use Angron's abilities to best advantage, and doesn't hesitate to do so. Because of this the relationship is not as strained as it could easily become, both having considerable pride. (Mars/Aries [Mars Rules])

Corvus Corax: Mutual understanding, based on independence and originality. However they may come into conflict over Rogal Dorn or their differing attitudes to the World. (Aries/Aquarius [Sextile])

Konrad Curze: Little in common, but no real animosity. (Aries/Pisces [Semi-Sextile])

Rogal Dorn: A very strong pair, Horus establishing identity and Rogal Dorn maintaining it. Rogal Dorn is happy to work under Horus's direction, as long as it does not conflict with his own principles, and is a strong and valued advisor keeping Horus from overextending himself. (Sol/Aries [Sol Exalted])

Leman Russ: Unless their ideals clash, there should be no particular tension.

XVII - Lorgar
V - The Hierophant
Astrological:
 Taurus
Ruler: Fulgrim
Exalts:
 High Priest
Detriment:
 Angron
Alchemical:
 Coagulation
Qabala: 16th path

Character:

Lorgar is a firm traditionalist. He distrusts, and may even fear, change from what he knows. Valuing structure, conformity, formality and discipline, he will be incredibly stubborn in his views and unwilling to change. While he is slow to act or change in any way, when he finally does he is measured, steady and almost impossible to stop.

He is calm, wise and mature, and a good advisor. His advice will however always be cautious and conservative, based on his rigid worldview. Because of the firmness of his beliefs and his confidence in them, he makes an excellent if highly dogmatic teacher. He will continually try to draw others into the orthodoxy of his beliefs, which may well alienate him from his brothers if he is too persistent, rigid or domineering. It is quite possible that he will have some connection to organized religion or some other strictly codified social system, which he will passionately proselytize for.

Just as he is rigidly loyal to his friends and allies, he can also hold deep grudges indefinitely.

He will be a powerful force for organization and teaching, as he values codified knowledge and understanding. His combination of patience, organizational skills and strong beliefs will mean he can bring understanding to a wide base of followers.

Lorgar forms a trio with Lion El'Jonson and Perturabo, focused on knowledge and ideological structure. Lion El'Jonson attempts to study and understand the universe, Lorgar codifies and teaches, and Perturabo represents suspicion and pressure caused by the rigidity of such structures. This trio in turn represents three aspects of the personality of the World.

At best, a steadying, calming influence, steady, confident and expert at organizing and educating others.

At worst, inflexible, dogmatic, stubborn, controlling and attempts to stop challenges to his own views at any cost.

Relations:

Magnus: Magnus is put off by Lorgar's rigidity, Lorgar by Magnus's iconoclasm. When they do talk, it will be straight to the point, well considered on both sides, and about very deep issues. (Mercury/Taurus)

The Second: An extremely valuable relationship.

Fulgrim: The relationship would make Fulgrim less flighty and more grounded, and Lorgar more accepting of divergence from the rules. Things could become fractious if Lorgar is overly restrictive, functional, or dogmatic, but under most circumstances Fulgrim, along with The Second, should be a mitigating influence. (Venus/Taurus [Venus in Rulership])

Horus: As opposites, have the potential to bring out the best or the worst in each other. May come into conflict over relationships to Fulgrim or Angron. (Aries/Taurus [Semi-Sextile])

Alpharius: Lorgar will likely bore Alpharius, and Alpharius will be far too inconsistent, immature and undisciplined for Lorgar. They will likely avoid each other, and if forced together will drive each other up the wall. (Taurus/Gemini [Semi-Sextile])

Roboute Guilliman: Mutual understanding based on desire for a secure foundation to work from. However if their chosen ideals clash it could lead to a moody, distrustful enmity. They may be strongly linked by The Second, and have a similar attitude to Angron. (Taurus/Cancer [Sextile])

Ferrus Manus: Initially will see many similarities in each other, but will slowly come to realize fundamental differences in ideology that could lead to intense arguments and long-held grudges. The intervention of Fulgrim will certainly be required if this relationship is to remain cordial. (Taurus/Libra [Quincunx])

Lion El'Jonson: Both are hardworking and have high and exacting standards. In addition, Lion El'Jonson can debate Lorgar's dogma on his own level, making Lorgar more aware of flaws in his thinking. Lorgar can bring Lion El'Jonson, or at least his input, out of his self-imposed withdrawal and into the wider world. Should be a good and productive relationship, though Fulgrim may be a point of contention between them. (Taurus/Virgo [Earth Trine])

The Eleventh: As with Fulgrim and Lorgar, this relationship depends very much on how dogmatic Lorgar is. Too much and The Eleventh will have no qualms about telling Lorgar that faith shouldn't come from rules and regulations. (Jupiter/Taurus)

Vulcan: Tension. Will resist each other's influence fiercely. (Taurus/Leo [Fixed Square])

Sanguinius: Potentially a relationship much like that between Lorgar and The Second. Sanguinius can lend flexibility and willingness to act to Lorgar's worldview, and Lorgar can make Sanguinius more grounded and less withdrawn.

Mortarion: Both are determined, stubborn, cautious and rather intense. However, Mortarion is dedicated to destroying the old status quo while Lorgar is dedicated to maintaining it. Due to the lack of a mutual figure for intermediation and their respective natures, this relationship is unlikely to find any balance and understanding. (Taurus/Scorpio [Opposition])

Jaghatai Khan: No common ground, and relations will be tense unless one is willing to make a major adaptation to the other. As Lorgar rarely adapts for anyone, this is likely to be a poor relationship similar to that between Lorgar and Leman Russ. (Taurus/Sagittarius [Quincunx Inconjunct])

Perturabo: Both demand a firm and inflexible code of conduct. While they can get along well, they will bring out each other's worst sides without outside influences. There will be festering resentment if one ends up dominating the relationship, and Perturabo's paranoid nature may lead him to believe this is happening even when it isn't. (Taurus/Capricorn [Earth Trine])

Angron: Constantly butting heads and both refusing to back down. Incredibly stubborn in dealing with each other. (Mars/Taurus [Mars in Detriment])

Corvus Corax: Tension. Lorgar's orthodoxy and Corvus Corax's iconoclasm inevitably clash. (Taurus/Aquarius [Fixed Square])

Konrad Curze: Mutual understanding. Both have some understanding of the need for a path through the darkness, Lorgar because his aim is to create one and Konrad Curze because he is frequently lost in it. The mediation of Fulgrim could make this a useful relationship, but not if Lorgar is too rigid or Konrad Curze is unwilling to be helped. (Taurus/Pisces [Sextile])

Rogal Dorn: Rogal Dorn and Lorgar can work well together, provided that they see eye to eye on their ideals. (Sun/Taurus)

Leman Russ: Leman Russ's free-spirited individualism goes against Lorgar's love of formality and orthodoxy. While Leman Russ is unlikely to be concerned over Lorgar's exasperation with him, he will rebel violently if he feels Lorgar is too controlling. In turn Lorgar can well hold long and bitter grudges against Leman Russ's constant refusal to fit into a formal setting.

XX - Alpharius
VI - The Lovers
Astrological:
 Gemini
Ruler: Magnus
Detriment: The Eleventh
Alchemical:
 Solve, Fixation
Qabala: 17th path

Character:

An extremely quick mind that loves complexity and is easily bored. He will show curiosity in anything and everything, but will probably also display a short attention span and a constant desire to move on to the next challenge. He is likely to treat everything as a purely intellectual pursuit, and may go as far as turning any task into a complex mental challenge without any thought for practicality.

He will be social and good with people, but mostly as an excuse to find out what makes them tick. He will quickly move on from people who bore him, and may have difficulty forming any truly deep bond.

Lacking deep bonds or the desire to think over one thing too much, he runs the risk of becoming superficial or even self-contradictory. He may even be deliberately contradictory, or do other things, just to see how people react.

Constantly curious and lively, he may well project a particularly youthful or even childlike demeanor.

He forms a trio with Ferrus Manus and Corvus Corax, focused on understanding of the universe. Alpharius gathers information and forms theories, Ferrus Manus evaluates those ideas and decides on the best path, and Corvus Corax attempts to implement that plan for the good of mankind. This trio in turn represents three aspects of the personality of The Emperor (and arguably Magnus).

At best, highly intelligent and adaptable, lively, articulate and sociable.

At worst, impractical, overcomplicates everything, superficial, childish, indecisive and self-contradictory.

Relations:

Magnus: Alpharius is likely to be picked up by Magnus as an acolyte.

The Second: While Alpharius eagerly digests anything The Second has to say, he tends to miss the point somewhat and is quickly distracted by something new anyway. The Second may become exasperated with his inability to stay focused. (Moon/Gemini)

Fulgrim: Superficial, social getting along. Friendly but with no deeper relationship. (Venus/Gemini)

Horus: Mutual understanding, based on drive and ambition. As Horus is interested in control and rulership whereas Alpharius is driven simply to understand, their ambitions do not cause them to come into conflict and they can even be very useful to each other. (Aries/Gemini [Sextile])

Lorgar: Lorgar will likely bore Alpharius, and Alpharius will be far too inconsistent, immature and undisciplined for Lorgar. They will likely avoid each other, and if forced together will drive each other up the wall. (Taurus/Gemini [Semi-Sextile])

Roboute Guilliman: Totally different and rub each other up completely the wrong way. Additional tension may come from their differing relationships to The Eleventh. (Gemini/Cancer [Semi-Sextile])

Ferrus Manus: Ferrus Manus and Alpharius are the least alike of the Alpharius-Ferrus-Corvus trio. While they might be able to work well at a distance, Ferrus Manus may well be too strict and serious for Alpharius and Alpharius too flighty and inconsistent for Ferrus Manus on a personal level. (Gemini/Libra [Air Trine])

Lion El'Jonson: Tension. Under pressure from each other, both tend to withdraw rather than deal with each other head on. Lion El'Jonson demands focus and peace, whereas Alpharius prefers stimulation and can have a short attention span. (Gemini/Virgo [Mutable Square])

The Eleventh: As is often the case with Alpharius his constant intellectual flittering causes trouble for The Eleventh, who is strongly attached to the concept of a unifying truth. (Jupiter/Gemini [Jupiter in Detriment])

Vulcan: Mutual understanding. Both are lively and sociable, and should get along. (Gemini/Leo [Sextile])

Sanguinius: Alpharius may initially appeal to the youthful and mischievous side of Sanguinius, but this is only a small aspect of his personality and he will quickly tire of Alpharius if he has to put up with him for an extended period of time.

Mortarion: No common ground, and relations will be tense unless one is willing to make a major adaptation to the other. (Gemini/Scorpio [Quincunx Inconjunct])

Jaghatai Khan: Both value speed and calculation. However, Alpharius tries to attack all sides of the problem at once, regardless of waste, whereas Jaghatai Khan will find the key to the issue and take on that alone, knowing that then the rest will fall into place. An understanding of each other can be achieved, but the relationship will be tense. Differing relationships with Magnus or The Eleventh may place strain on this relationship. (Gemini/Sagittarius [Opposition])

Perturabo: Tension. Perturabo considers Alpharius irresponsible and immature. Alpharius considers Perturabo too withdrawn and restricting. (Gemini/Capricorn [Quincunx Contra-Antiscia])

Angron: Alpharius has little time for Angron's unsubtle approach, nor Angron for Alpharius' tendency to make everything ten times more complicated than it needs to be. (Mars/Gemini)

Corvus Corax: A good relationship, as both are highly intellectual. The danger is that they will get so distracted by discussing their ideas that they will not truly get to know each other as people. (Gemini/Aquarius [Air Trine])

Konrad Curze: Tension. Under pressure from each other, both tend to withdraw and become nebulous to evade attack rather than deal with each other head on. (Gemini/Pisces [Mutable Square])

Rogal Dorn: Rogal Dorn may worry about Alpharius' lack of consistency, and Alpharius may find Rogal Dorn a little unadventurous. (Sol/Gemini)

Leman Russ: Probably no real tension, but ultimately little in common.

XIII - Roboute Guilliman
VII - The Chariot
Astrological:
 Cancer
Ruler: High Priest
Exalts: The Eleventh
Fall: Angron
Detriment: The World
Alchemical:
 Solution
Qabala: 18th path

Character:

Honourable and willing to fight for what he believes, but only what he believes. He is never violent for the sake of it, nor will he fight for a cause he does not believe in.

He will be very faithful to his ideals and obedient to whatever authorities he acknowledges as his superiors. However he might become overly reliant on the security and certainty this brings, and stop showing initiative or originality. While he is highly conservative, he is not necessarily a traditionalist. Unlike Lorgar, he understands the need for change and renewal to meet new conditions.

A dual nature may be in evidence. On the outside he may appear thick-skinned, unemotional and obstinate, while underneath he is far more sensitive, even insecure. At all times he will be highly intelligent, though he will apply this in a shrewd and cautious manner.

Values both company and privacy, but on his own terms. This may get him a reputation for being moody. Private insecurity and possible withdrawal from other's affairs may lead to jealousy when he becomes aware of their success.

Roboute Guilliman forms a trio with Mortarion and Konrad Curze, focused on the need for fundamental changes. Konrad Curze is the need for change, Mortarion the decay or destruction of old structures, and Roboute Guilliman is the establisher of new ways (which in turn will become obsolete and decay). This trio in turn represents three aspects of the personality of Sanguinius.

At best, honorable, obedient, loyal, valorous, energetic, protective and sympathetic.

At worst, moody, touchy, either withdrawn, over dependent or both, jealous, unwilling to take orders from equals or inferiors, and procrastinating.

Relations:

Magnus: Roboute Guilliman has a tendency to misinterpret Magnus. After a while, Magnus just stops bothering. (Mercury/Cancer)

The Second: Roboute Guilliman can find that The Second is the only one he feels comfortable sharing his deeper emotions with, and can lose a bit too much emotional restraint when dealing with him. While this is an important relationship for The Second, it can also become a little taxing if Roboute Guilliman starts to become over dependent on his support and advice. (Moon/Cancer [Moon Rules])

Fulgrim: Tend to throw each other rather off balance, each whipping up the other's more passionately emotional nature without really knowing why. (Venus/Cancer)

Horus: Tension. Have differing plans they want to set in motion. Horus simply wants to rule, regardless of how or why, whereas Roboute Guilliman wants to establish certainty and security. May come to additional conflict over Angron. (Aries/Cancer [Cardinal Square])

Lorgar: Mutual understanding based on desire for a secure foundation to work from. However if their chosen ideals clash it could lead to a moody, distrustful enmity. They may be strongly linked by The Second, and have a similar attitude to Angron. (Taurus/Cancer [Sextile])

Alpharius: Totally different and rub each other up completely the wrong way. Additional tension may come from their differing relationships to The Eleventh. (Gemini/Cancer [Semi-Sextile])

Ferrus Manus: Tension. Have differing plans they want to set in motion. Chariot wants to establish certainty and security, whereas Ferrus Manus wishes to establish balance. However, if they somehow manage to get past their many differences they can be a productive team. (Cancer/Libra [Cardinal Square])

Lion El'Jonson: Mutual understanding based on desire for certainty. The relationship can look decidedly bland and dull from the outside, but neither Lion El'Jonson or Roboute Guilliman care. (Cancer/Virgo [Sextile])

The Eleventh: A valuable relationship. The Eleventh can get Roboute Guilliman to relax somewhat and not work himself up over the ideals of faith and loyalty they both share. (Jupiter/Cancer [Jupiter Exalted])

Vulcan: Aside from a similar attitude to the World, little in common. (Cancer/Leo [Semi-Sextile])

Sanguinius: Should get along, if Sanguinius is not too aloof when dealing with Roboute Guilliman.

Mortarion: Both understand the need for renewal and the destruction of outdated systems. Should be a harmonious relationship. (Cancer/Scorpio [Water Trine])

Jaghatai Khan: Probable tension. Roboute Guilliman is too much of a conservative for Jaghatai Khan and Jaghatai Khan too unorthodox for Roboute Guilliman. However they may get on at a social level, possibly enabled by a mutual strong connection to The Eleventh. (Cancer/Sagittarius [Quincunx Contra-Antiscia])

Perturabo: Both are attempting to establish security. However, Roboute Guilliman wants emotional and ideological security, while Perturabo is focused entirely on the physical. Perturabo can become far too oppressive for Roboute Guilliman's ideals.(Cancer/Virgo [Opposition])

Angron: While (probably grudgingly) appreciating each other's sense of honor, Roboute Guilliman finds Angron too reckless and impulsive. Much arguing can ensue. (Mars/Cancer [Mars in Fall])

Corvus Corax: No common ground, and relations will be tense unless one is willing to make a major adaptation to the other. (Cancer/Aquarius [Quincunx Inconjunct])

Konrad Curze: Of Roboute Guilliman-Mortarion-Moon trio, Roboute Guilliman and Konrad Curze are least alike and have the most potential for tension in a relationship that should be very harmonious. Roboute Guilliman only dismantles structure to build a better one, whereas Konrad Curze is distrustful of all structure. (Cancer/Pisces [Water Trine])

Rogal Dorn: Relations can occasionally be tense, despite similarities. (Sol/Cancer)

Leman Russ: If Roboute Guilliman can get over certain clashing aspects of their personalities and realize their similarities, they could get along well. However if Roboute Guilliman focuses only on their differences he can become critical and moody, creating a lot of ill feeling.

X - Ferrus Manus
VIII - Justice
Astrological:
 Libra
Ruler: Fulgrim
Exalts: The World
Fall:
 Rogal Dorn
Detriment:
 Angron
Alchemical:
 Sublimation
Qabala: 22nd path

Character:

Objective and calculating, Ferrus Manus thinks every issue through before committing himself. However he is often speedy at doing so, and once he has made a decision his commitment to it is entire.

While Ferrus Manus is firm and unyielding once he has made his judgment, unlike Lorgar he judges situations and people on an individual basis rather than trying to come up with a universal code. This makes him far more adaptable than he can sometimes seem, given his liking for discipline and structure.

Despite his objective nature he is not detached or indrawn, but outgoing and friendly. On a deeply personal level Ferrus Manus may be prone to the feeling that he is somehow incomplete, and try to seek out some outside agent to fill this perceived gap in himself.

The most practically active of the Airy natured brothers (the others being Magnus, Alpharius and Corvus Corax) he will likely be creative and inventive, though in a highly calculated and practical rather than artistic manner. He forms a trio with Alpharius and Corvus Corax, focused on understanding of the universe. Alpharius gathers information and forms theories, Ferrus Manus evaluates those ideas and decides on the best path, and Corvus Corax attempts to implement that plan for the good of mankind. This trio in turn represents three aspects of the personality of The Emperor (and arguably Magnus).

At best, objective, balanced, inventive, diplomatic and co-operative.

At worst, harsh, judgemental, cold in assessment and furious in pursuing perceived wrongdoing.

Relations:

Magnus: Magnus has a tendency to play devil's advocate to Ferrus Manus's ideas, which can create tension when done just for the sake of it. Ferrus Manus values Magnus's intelligence and analytical mind, but not his constant experimentation. (Mercury/Libra)

The Second: The Second is wary of expressing anything that Ferrus Manus might not want to hear, and though both have an innate sense of balance and fairness they express it in very different ways. Ferrus Manus may consider The Second too soft on transgressors. (Moon/Libra)

Fulgrim: A perfect fit for each other. Brings out the appreciation of balance and beauty in both, and in a very practical manner. Also brings out the reconciling, diplomatic side of Fulgrim, and smoothes out the critical harshness that can be a part of Ferrus Manus. (Venus/Libra [Venus in Rulership])

Horus: An understanding of each other can be achieved, but the relationship will be tense. Ferrus Manus in particular may not agree with how Horus treats people. (Aries/Libra [Opposition])

Lorgar: Initially will see many similarities in each other, but will slowly come to realize fundamental differences in ideology that could lead to intense arguments and long-held grudges. The intervention of Fulgrim will certainly be required if this relationship is to remain cordial. (Taurus/Libra [Quincunx])

Alpharius: Ferrus Manus and Alpharius are the least alike of the Alpharius-Ferrus-Corvus trio. While they might be able to work well at a distance, Ferrus Manus may well be too strict and serious for Alpharius and Alpharius too flighty and inconsistent for Ferrus Manus on a personal level. (Gemini/Libra [Air Trine])

Roboute Guilliman: Tension. Have differing plans they want to set in motion. Chariot wants to establish certainty and security, whereas Ferrus Manus wishes to establish balance. However, if they somehow manage to get past their many differences they can be a productive team. (Cancer/Libra [Cardinal Square])

Lion El'Jonson: Little in common, and make each other uncomfortable. (Virgo/Libra [Semi-Sextile])

The Eleventh: Comfortable with each other. Ferrus Manus may urge The Eleventh to keep a tighter grip on things, and inversely The Eleventh may encourage Ferrus Manus to loosen up a bit. (Jupiter/Libra)

Vulcan: Very similar, both being outgoing and practically creative. Vulcan's warmth counterbalances Ferrus Manus's occasional coldness, and Ferrus Manus's objectivity balances Vulcan's occasional tendency to get too personally involved. (Libra/Leo [Sextile])

Sanguinius: Little in common. Ferrus Manus may have trouble dealing with Sanguinius's aloof inscrutability.

Mortarion: Little in common, and make each other uncomfortable. Differing relationships with Angron and/or Fulgrim may cause extra tension. (Libra/Scorpio [Semi-Sextile])

Jaghatai Khan: Get along very well, given time to get used to each other. Both value calculation and precision. (Libra/Sagittarius [Sextile])

Perturabo: Tension. Have vastly differing characters and attitudes but similar goals, potentially leading to many clashes. (Libra/Capricorn [Cardinal Square])

Angron: Ferrus Manus's demand for structure and discipline is directly at odds with Angron's nature. (Mars/Libra [Mars in Detriment])

Corvus Corax: Both value reason and calculation, and should get along well. Ferrus Manus's more social bent balances Corvus Corax's taciturn nature. (Libra/Aquarius [Air Trine])

Konrad Curze: There is some hidden, behind-the-scenes connection between these two, which makes their interaction slightly more harmonious despite their lack of common ground. This may come from their deep mutual connection to Fulgrim. (Libra/Pisces [Quincunx Antiscia])

Rogal Dorn: Both have a sense of balance, but to Ferrus Manus this can become too much about rigidity and Rogal Dorn is not entirely comfortable with that. (Sol/Libra [Sol in Fall])

Leman Russ: Have the potential to get along on a social level, but may have trouble working together.

I - Lion El'Jonson
IX - The Hermit
Astrological:
 Virgo
Ruler: Magnus
Exalts: Magnus
Fall: Fulgrim
Detriment:
 The Eleventh
Alchemical:
 Distillation
Qabala: 20th path

Character:

Lion El'Jonson is withdrawn and introspective, quiet and reserved. He will only let a select few whom he trusts completely past his guard, if he does not shun company entirely.

Very aware of small details, he has a tendency to be highly critical, both of others and of himself. He has a distinct tendency to brood on things, trying to piece together vast amounts of small details into a coherent whole and agonizing over anything that doesn't fit.

He will rarely share his thoughts with anyone without encouragement, prefering to keep to himself unless specifically called upon. He may project unapproachability, probably by giving the constant impression that there is something very important preying on his mind (which may not be a false impression). Interruptions to his thoughts or other annoyances will probably make him suddenly irritable and scathing.

Despite being withdrawn and quiet, there is also a strong restlessness to Lion El'Jonson which tends to manifest on a small scale; tension, sleeplessness or a tendency to pace or fidget when deep in thought, which is most of the time.

Lion El'Jonson forms a trio with Lorgar and Perturabo, focused on knowledge and ideological structure. Lion El'Jonson attempts to study and understand the universe, Lorgar codifies and teaches, and Perturabo represents suspicion and pressure caused by the rigidity of such structures. This trio in turn represents three aspects of the personality of the World.

At best, keenly observant, an extremely sharp and logical thinker, self-sufficient and practical.

At worst, overly critical, self-abusive, irritable, not forthcoming and unassertive, and unable to see the wood for the trees.

Relations:

Magnus: An extremely valuable relationship.

The Second: Lion El'Jonson tends to over analyze The Second's advice, and has trouble acting on it as he frequently can't make logical sense of it. (Moon/Virgo)

Fulgrim: Brings out each other's obsession with detail and perfectionism. Probably constantly criticizing each other. Fulgrim cannot understand Lion El'Jonson's withdrawal and self-imposed asceticism, nor Lion El'Jonson Fulgrim's gregariousness and materialism. (Venus/Virgo [Venus in Fall])

Horus: There is some hidden, behind-the-scenes connection between these two, which should make their interaction slightly more harmonious despite their lack of common ground. (Aries/Virgo [Quincunx Antiscia])

Lorgar: Both are hardworking and have high and exacting standards.

Alpharius: Tension. Under pressure from each other, both tend to withdraw rather than deal with each other head on. Lion El'Jonson demands focus and peace, whereas Alpharius prefers stimulation and can have a short attention span. (Gemini/Virgo [Mutable Square])

Roboute Guilliman: Mutual understanding based on desire for certainty. The relationship can look decidedly bland and dull from the outside, but neither Lion El'Jonson or Roboute Guilliman care. (Cancer/Virgo [Sextile])

Ferrus Manus: Little in common, and make each other uncomfortable. (Virgo/Libra [Semi-Sextile])

The Eleventh: Lion El'Jonson has no time for The Eleventh's outgoing manner or trust in destiny. (Jupiter/Virgo [Jupiter in Detriment])

Vulcan: Little in common. Will probably avoid each other, and will quickly get on each other's nerves if forced to spend time together. (Leo/Virgo [Semi-Sextile])

Sanguinius: While unlikely to come into contact much, understand each other on their own level and corporate nicely. Lion El'Jonson may well be skeptical of Sanguinius's moments of pure insight.

Mortarion: Mutual understanding, based on withdrawal and depth. They will find a lot in common if they get to know each other, but stubbornness over disagreements could sour things. (Virgo/Scorpio [Sextile])

Jaghatai Khan: Tension. Under pressure from each other, both tend to withdraw rather than deal with each other head on. (Virgo/Sagittarius [Mutable Square])

Perturabo: The least alike of the Lorgar-Lion-Perturabo trio. Both can see potential in the other, but may also have reservations unless they get to know each other well. (Virgo/Capricorn [Earth Trine])

Angron: Lion El'Jonson can focus Angron better than most, but things rapidly deteriorate if he tries to bog Angron down in the details of his plans. (Mars/Virgo)

Corvus Corax: Tension. Likely to get into intense intellectual debates that both sulk about afterwards. (Virgo/Aquarius [Quincunx Inconjunct])

Konrad Curze: Both are withdrawn and have a tendency towards self-sacrifice. However, Lion El'Jonson attempts to create structure while Konrad Curze denies and destroys it. An understanding of each other can be achieved, but the relationship will be tense. (Virgo/Pisces [Opposition])

Rogal Dorn: Lion El'Jonson's withdrawal is not easy for Rogal Dorn to deal with, and if Rogal Dorn appears too prideful Lion El'Jonson can turn quite critical. (Sol/Virgo)

Leman Russ: Unlikely to come into contact much, and will barely tolerate each other when they do. Lion El'Jonson will be baffled by Leman Russ and constantly criticize his impulsiveness, lack of discipline, and everything else that makes up his personality. Leman Russ will quickly have an explosive reaction to Lion El'Jonson's constant nagging, but just as quickly get over it, an attitude which Lion El'Jonson will not understand at all.

XI - The Eleventh
X - Fortune
Astrological:
 Jupiter
Rules: Jaghatai Khan, Konrad Curze
Exalted: Roboute Guilliman
Fall: Perturabo
Detriment: Alpharius, Lion El'Jonson
Alchemical: Tin
Qabala: 21st path, 4th Sephira

Character:

Expansive, generous, fun-loving and maybe a little boisterous. While he can seem very straightforward, he is a much deeper thinker than most recognise and can occasionally startle people with a calm, deeply reasoned insight. One of the most understanding of people's need for faith.

An optimist, with great faith in those around him and humanity as a whole. Might be a little overly trusting in people's good nature, and overconfident not only in himself but in those around him.

Does not appreciate being restricted, any may have a relaxed attitude to formal rules and regulations. However, he will have a keen sense of right and wrong. He understands that true order cannot be achieved through stasis and must allow some flexibility.

Like Fulgrim, The Eleventh will value personal relationships and attempt to draw his brothers together so they can understand their greater purpose.

At best, warm, generous, welcoming, good humored, encouraging and inexplicably lucky.

At worst, over-confident, too trusting, out of touch with people's real thoughts and out of control of events.

Relations:

Magnus: A bit of a wildcard relationship, which could go a number of ways. If Magnus is too withdrawn and arrogant he will have trouble getting along with The Eleventh.

The Second: Like minded in many issues, and should get along.

Fulgrim: Both gregarious, accepting, and gracious. Generally get along, though Fulgrim can find The Eleventh too adventurous and The Eleventh finds Fulgrim too material and possessive.

Horus: Horus would rather keep a tighter rein on things than The Eleventh, and is not impressed by his happy-go-lucky attitude. The Eleventh can find Horus too proud or too politically cynical. (Jupiter/Aries)

Lorgar: As with Fulgrim, this relationship depends very much on how dogmatic Lorgar is. Too much and The Eleventh will have no qualms about telling Lorgar that faith shouldn't come from rules and regulations. (Jupiter/Taurus)

Alpharius: As is often the case with Alpharius his constant intellectual flittering causes trouble for The Eleventh, who is strongly attached to the concept of a unifying truth. (Jupiter/Gemini [Jupiter in Detriment])

Roboute Guilliman: A valuable relationship. The Eleventh can get Roboute Guilliman to relax somewhat and not work himself up over the ideals of faith and loyalty they both share. (Jupiter/Cancer [Jupiter Exalted])

Ferrus Manus: Comfortable with each other. Ferrus Manus may urge The Eleventh to keep a tighter grip on things, and inversely The Eleventh may encourage Ferrus Manus to loosen up a bit. (Jupiter/Libra)

Lion El’Jonson: The Lion has no time for The Eleventh's outgoing manner or trust in destiny. (Jupiter/Virgo [Jupiter in Detriment])

Vulcan: Like minded and enjoy each other's company, but ultimately neither gains any insight from the relationship. (Jupiter/Leo)

Sanguinius: Deep similarities yet differences in approach and character make these two a well matched pair.

Mortarion: Mortarion's focus and intensity is uncomfortable for The Eleventh, who likes a far more relaxed atmosphere. (Jupiter/Scorpio)

Jaghatai Khan: A good match for each other, both getting along well and lending each other greater focus. (Jupiter/Sagittarius [Jupiter Rules])

Perturabo: The Eleventh tends to feel pity for Perturabo's constant withdrawal and suspicion. This is the last thing Perturabo wants from anyone. (Jupiter/Capricorn [Jupiter in Detriment])

Angron: The Eleventh tends to be over trusting that Angron has thought before acting, and may defend him. Angron might well abuse The Eleventh's trust to gain freedom to act where his other brothers would try to rein him in.

Corvus: While they connect on an ideological level, Corvus is more reserved and finds The Eleventh a little too cheerfully optimistic. (Jupiter/Aquarius)

Konrad Curze: Somewhat against expectation, a good match. The Eleventh's unswerving trust in Konrad Curze gives him more confidence than he would have otherwise, and Konrad Curze can act as a warning voice to The Eleventh's boundless optimism. (Jupiter/Pisces [Jupiter Rules])

Rogal Dorn: Rogal Dorn and The Eleventh are much alike, though Rogal Dorn is rather more balanced, centered and self controlled.

Leman Russ: Get along extremely well, but The Eleventh can get a little left behind when Leman Russ turns serious.

XVIII - Vulcan
XI - Strength
Astrological:
 Leo
Ruler:
 Rogal Dorn
Detriment: The World
Alchemical: Digestion
Qabala: 19th path

Character:

Vulcan is warm, active and expansive, yet also self-controlled, composed and compassionate. He will be an extremely solid and dependable character, who is at his best under pressure yet slightly at a loss when without a goal to work towards. A crisis focuses him excellently and he will immediately take charge, but under more relaxed circumstances he may become complacent.

Like Ferrus Manus he is practically creative, though probably with a bit more of an eye for flair over functionality.

Despite his apparent solidness Vulcan will always keep half an eye on his brothers, seeking their approval and support. He is unlikely to voice opinions he feels will be unpopular, and might take the easy way out of debates by withdrawing or not engaging until the popular vote is already cast.

Vulcan forms a trio with Horus and Jaghatai Khan, focused on action and identity. Jaghatai Khan recognises the conflict between the individual identity and that of the cosmos, Horus forms and asserts identity, and Vulcan makes this identity stable and accepted by others. This trio in turn represents three aspects of the personality of Leman Russ.

At best, warm, generous, compassionate, honest, enthusiastic, determined and authoritative.

At worst, self-centered, jealous, prideful, stubborn, boastful and with deep insecurities masked by overconfident and exhibitionist behavior.

Relations:

Magnus: Vulcan rarely requires Magnus's advice, and Magnus does not like being dismissed lightly. Magnus can be rather too high handed for Vulcan's liking. This relationship is much like between Magnus and Horus, but without the bitterly personal edge. (Mercury/Leo)

The Second: Appreciate each other's compassionate nature, but Vulcan may find The Second's indirectness uncomfortable. (Moon/Leo)

Fulgrim: Warm when getting along, but the slightest hint of criticism from either side has the potential to set off volcanic, if quickly forgotten, arguments. (Venus/Leo)

Horus: Warm and friendly, provided neither side has ego issues. (Aries/Leo [Fire Trine])

Lorgar: Tension. Will resist each other's influence fiercely. (Taurus/Leo [Fixed Square])

Alpharius: Mutual understanding. Both are lively and sociable, and should get along. (Gemini/Leo [Sextile])

Roboute Guilliman: Aside from a similar attitude to the World, little in common. (Cancer/Leo [Semi-Sextile])

Ferrus Manus: Very similar, both being outgoing and practically creative. Vulcan's warmth counterbalances Ferrus Manus's occasional coldness, and Ferrus Manus's objectivity balances Vulcan's occasional tendency to get too personally involved. (Leo/Libra [Sextile])

Lion El'Jonson: Little in common. Will probably avoid each other, and will quickly get on each other's nerves if forced to spend time together. (Leo/Virgo [Semi-Sextile])

The Eleventh: Like minded and enjoy each other's company, but ultimately neither gains any insight from the relationship. (Jupiter/Leo)

Sanguinius: Vulcan may find Sanguinius fascinating, but the two may fall out if Sanguinius is too aloof or condescending and Vulcan reacts badly.

Mortarion: A volatile combination to be avoided at all costs. (Leo/Scorpio [Fixed Square])

Jaghatai Khan: Should get along very well. (Leo/Sagittarius [Fire Trine])

Perturabo: No common ground, and relations will be tense unless one is willing to make a major adaptation to the other. Vulcan may well disgust Perturabo. (Leo/Capricorn [Quincunx Inconjunct])

Angron: Vulcan is not wholly comfortable with Angron's constant aggressiveness, while Angron struggles with Vulcan's sense of compassion. (Mars/Leo)

Corvus Corax: Vulcan is straightforward and warm whilst Corvus Corax is intellectual, cold and aloof. They have opposing attitudes to both Rogal Dorn and the World. While they should balance as opposites, their natures make it difficult for them to get along on a personal basis. (Leo/Aquarius [Opposition])

Konrad Curze: No common ground, and relations will be tense unless one is willing to make a major adaptation to the other. (Leo/Pisces [Quincunx Inconjunct])

Rogal Dorn: Very much alike in nature and outlook, and get along excellently. (Sol/Leo [Sol Rules])

Leman Russ: Leman Russ's unrelenting intensity is rather uncomfortable for Vulcan, who likes to relax slightly once in a while. However they should get along unless they are forced into close quarters for an extended period of time.

IX - Sanguinius
XII - The Hanged Man
Astrological:
 Water
Cardinal: Roboute Guilliman
Fixed: Mortarion
Mutable: Konrad Curze
Alchemical:
 Water
Qabala: 23rd path, left column

Character:

Regardless of what is going on under the surface, Sanguinius will appear accepting, calm and unperturbed. There may well be a mischievous streak to his nature, though it will only show through to people who know him well.

There is a lot going on under the surface, and when it does break through a complete change in character can be observed. Sanguinius is permanently on the edge of the abyss and can call upon, or accidently fall into, both the inescapable revolutionary power of Mortarion or the fatalistic gloom of Konrad Curze. He will be particularly intense in personality, usually manifesting as absolute calm and poise but also affecting his darker moments.

Sanguinius will be extremely intelligent and intuitive, and possibly slightly psychic. This will not be something he has particular control over, at least early on. Rather it will manifest in his darkest times, and if he comes to rely too much on this aspect of himself he may consciously or unconsciously take to self-abuse to trigger it.

It is quite possible that he will in some way combine the best qualities of Roboute Guilliman (valor), Mortarion (power), Konrad Curze (intuition) and The Second (grace) without falling to their flaws (insecurity, morbidity, fatalism, and misdirection). On the flip side he is quite susceptible to all of these flaws. However as one of only two Primarchs representing pure elements (the other being Leman Russ) he is more likely to transcend what in others would be fatal flaws.

At best, calm, magnetic, influential, contemplative, and highly intuitive.

At worst, fatalistic, morbid, self-abusive, insecure, hesitant, and makes unnecessary sacrifices.

Relations:

Magnus: Sanguinius and Magnus tend to leave each other alone. Both are after the answers to the universe, but both are on a different path. Magnus feels safe in the knowledge that his way is right, Sanguinius is quietly convinced that Magnus is missing something important.

The Second: Sanguinius is one of the only ones to have any true insight into The Second, and they can often seem like two of a kind.

Fulgrim: Fulgrim is more sympathetic to Sanguinius's withdrawal than to Lion El'Jonson's, but still doesn't really understand it.

Horus: Complete opposites, they may equally come into conflict or appreciate the balance they can give each other.

Lorgar: Potentially a relationship much like that between Lorgar and The Second. Sanguinius can lend flexibility and willingness to act to Lorgar's worldview, and Lorgar can make Sanguinius more grounded and less withdrawn.

Alpharius: Alpharius may initially appeal to the youthful and mischievous side of Sanguinius, but this is only a small aspect of his personality and he will quickly tire of Alpharius if he has to put up with him for an extended period of time.

Roboute Guilliman: Should get along, if Sanguinius is not too aloof when dealing with Roboute Guilliman.

Ferrus Manus: Little in common. Ferrus Manus may have trouble dealing with Sanguinius's aloof inscrutability.

Lion El'Jonson: While unlikely to come into contact much, understand each other on their own level and cooperate nicely. Lion El'Jonson may well be skeptical of Sanguinius's moments of pure insight.

The Eleventh: Deep similarities yet differences in approach and character make these two a well matched pair.

Vulcan: Vulcan may find Sanguinius fascinating, but the two may fall out if Sanguinius is too aloof or condescending and Vulcan reacts badly.

Mortarion: The relationship will depend on how accepting Sanguinius is of the aspect of himself he sees in Mortarion. If Sanguinius tries to deny the darker and more intense side of himself, Mortarion will realize this and become suspicious of the fact he is hiding something.

Jaghatai Khan: A good, balancing pair who should be able to get along. However, Sanguinius might be too fond of pouring cold water on Jaghatai Khan's enthusiasm.

Perturabo: Likely to be a distant and suspicious relationship. Sanguinius does not like Perturabo's relentless focus on the practical, and Perturabo is as usual suspicious of Sanguinius's aloofness and hidden depths.

Angron: Angron may be one of the few who can get Sanguinius to lose his usual cool demeanor.

Corvus Corax: Will quite probably get along, though in a dreamy and detached manner in which neither truly gets to know the other personally.

Konrad Curze: Konrad Curze mirrors an aspect of the personality of Sanguinius, the dark abyss that he is permanently on the edge of. The relationship will depend on how accepting Sanguinius is of this part of himself. If he can accept this in himself he is able to accept it in Konrad Curze. If not, the presence of Konrad Curze will be difficult and disturbing for Sanguinius.

Rogal Dorn: Work on quite different levels, and can balance or simply oppose. Sanguinius can dim Rogal Dorn's pride somewhat, and Rogal Dorn can bring out the lighter and more mischievous side of Sanguinius.

Leman Russ: The most pure and direct pair of opposites possible. Due to the purity of both natures, it is more likely that they will complement rather than clash, or at least not interfere with each other. Fortunate, as the consequences of a conflict between these two could be dire.

XIV - Mortarion
XIII - Death
Astrological:
 Scorpio
Ruler: Angron
Fall:
 The Second
Detriment: Fulgrim
Alchemical: Putrefaction, Filtration
Qabala: 24th path

Character:

A dark and intense character, Mortarion feels emotion very deeply but rarely expresses it. When he does it is explosive yet controlled, and has a profound effect on those around him.

He is a cold and apparently detached but intense observer, and will always be the one to ask awkward questions or bring up unpleasant facts others would try to avoid. He is always seeking the worst in order to uncover and transform it, but his moodiness and intensity can make this preoccupation a morbid obsession. He can become secretive and withdrawn, realizing that these obsessions might not be well received. He will respond badly to attempts at establishing casual friendship, or flattery, and hates shallowness.

When he wants he can be extremely persuasive, and works passionately for whatever cause he has set himself to. He may come to feel a burning resentment towards the established authority for their perceived secrets or injustices, and become extremely violent when dealing with it.

Mortarion forms a trio with Roboute Guilliman and Konrad Curze, focused on the need for fundamental changes. Konrad Curze is the need for change, Mortarion the decay or destruction of old structures, and Roboute Guilliman is the establisher of new ways (which in turn will become obsolete and decay). This trio in turn represents three aspects of the personality of Sanguinius.

At best, a passionate crusader, both concerned and analytical, persuasive and a good "behind the scenes" leader.

At worst, moody, obsessive, morbid, withdrawn, manipulative, secretive, aggressive and passive-aggressive.

Relations:

Magnus: Suspicious on both sides. Mortarion's scrutiny is always on the deepest and darkest secrets, and Magnus has plenty. Mortarion is also the most aware of how intense and transforming the powers Magnus uses can be when they get out of control. (Mercury/Scorpio)

The Second: Mortarion's dark intensity tends to disturb the calm The Second generally projects. They both recognise the dark side of themselves and each other when they are together. (Moon/Scorpio [Moon in Fall])

Fulgrim: Brings out the depths of both, but not in an entirely positive way. Put together their sheer intensity of focus can grow to the point of dangerous morbidity. (Venus/Scorpio [Venus in Detriment])

Horus: Relations will be tense unless one is willing to make a major adaptation to the other. However, both have a similar intensity in pursuing goals. (Aries/Scorpio [Quincunx])

Lorgar: Both are determined, stubborn, cautious and rather intense.

Alpharius: No common ground, and relations will be tense unless one is willing to make a major adaptation to the other. (Gemini/Scorpio [Quincunx Inconjunct])

Roboute Guilliman: Both understand the need for renewal and the destruction of outdated systems. Should be a harmonious relationship. (Cancer/Scorpio [Water Trine])

Ferrus Manus: Little in common, and make each other uncomfortable. Differing relationships with Angron and/or Fulgrim may cause extra tension. (Libra/Scorpio [Semi-Sextile])

Lion El'Jonson: Mutual understanding, based on withdrawal and depth. They will find a lot in common if they get to know each other, but stubbornness over disagreements could sour things. (Virgo/Scorpio [Sextile])

The Eleventh: Mortarion's focus and intensity is uncomfortable for The Eleventh, who likes a far more relaxed atmosphere. (Jupiter/Scorpio)

Vulcan: A volatile combination to be avoided at all costs. (Leo/Scorpio [Fixed Square])

Sanguinius: The relationship will depend on how accepting Sanguinius is of the aspect of himself he sees in Mortarion. If Sanguinius tries to deny the darker and more intense side of himself, Mortarion will realize this and become suspicious of the fact he is hiding something.

Jaghatai Khan: Little in common. Unlikely to come into much contact from choice, and will drive each other insane if they do. (Scorpio/Sagittarius [Semi-Sextile])

Perturabo: Both are intense crusaders. Potentially a good pair, if they can get over each other's automatic suspicion and secrecy. They may be more willing to open up to each other than to anyone else. (Scorpio/Capricorn [Sextile])

Angron: Mortarion is one of the few Angron will listen to when it comes to when not to act. (Mars/Scorpio [Mars Rules])

Corvus Corax: Mortarion will deeply distrust Corvus Corax, and Corvus Corax will respond with cool aloofness that only confirms Mortarion's suspicions. Corvus Corax finds Mortarion far too pessimistic. (Scorpio/Aquarius [Fixed Square])

Konrad Curze: Mortarion and Konrad Curze understand each other very well, both being aware of the hidden depths of the psyche and the need for the discarding and destruction of old ways. (Scorpio/Pisces [Water Trine])

Rogal Dorn: Do not get along, Mortarion being concerned with the breakdown of what Rogal Dorn attempts to build up. Rogal Dorn is bright and open, Mortarion is dark and secretive. (Sol/Scorpio)

Leman Russ: Little in common as far as personality is concerned. Might get on each other's nerves, which considering the personalities involved could well end in a fight.

V - Jaghatai Khan
XIV - Temperance
Astrological:
 Sagittarius
Ruler: The Eleventh
Detriment:
 Magnus
Alchemical:
 Coagula, Ceration
Qabala: 25th path

Character:

An explorer and a traveler, Jaghatai Khan will love activity and adventure. He is an idealistic crusader who will tend to fight for the underdog with enthusiasm and good judgment.

A quick thinker, he prefers to get straight to the heart of problems with a sharp, calculated strike. However he may tend to overlook finer details, or be inadvertently tactless in his straightforward truthfulness. While strongly idealistic he is also adaptable and always interested in new ideas.

He can be quick to anger, but is also quick to forgive.

Jaghatai Khan forms a trio with Vulcan and Horus, focused on action and identity. Jaghatai Khan recognises the conflict between the individual identity and that of the cosmos, Horus forms and asserts identity, and Vulcan makes this identity stable and accepted by others. This trio in turn represents three aspects of the personality of Leman Russ.

At best, swift, precise, idealistic, enthusiastic, strong-willed, honest and adventurous.

At worst, quick tempered, tactless, rebellious, and oblivious to danger or criticism.

Relations:

Magnus: Magnus can be very persuasive towards Jaghatai Khan, encouraging him to try out every crazy new scheme Magnus comes up with and convincing him that this time it really is the solution to everything.

The Second:The Second will frequently bring up Jaghatai Khan on his accidental lack of tact. (Moon/Sagittarius)

Fulgrim: Fulgrim loses his usual diplomatic skills when dealing with Jaghatai Khan. Jaghatai Khan's constant rushing around without stopping to appreciate things puts Fulgrim rather on edge and makes him uncomfortable, but Jaghatai Khan is often too busy (or tactless) to notice. (Venus/Sagittarius)

Horus: A good social match, but if they come to blows it can be explosive. Both prefer to do their own thing and Horus's assertiveness can come into conflict with Jaghatai Khan's more balanced and calculated outlook. (Aries/Sagittarius [Fire Trine])

Lorgar: No common ground, and relations will be tense unless one is willing to make a major adaptation to the other. As Lorgar rarely adapts for anyone, this is likely to be a poor relationship similar to that between Lorgar and Leman Russ. (Taurus/Sagittarius [Quincunx Inconjunct])

Alpharius: Both value speed and calculation.

Roboute Guilliman: Probable tension.

Ferrus Manus: Get along very well, given time to get used to each other. Both value calculation and precision. (Libra/Sagittarius [Sextile])

Lion El'Jonson: Tension. Under pressure from each other, both tend to withdraw rather than deal with each other head on. (Virgo/Sagittarius [Mutable Square])

The Eleventh: A good match for each other, both getting along well and lending each other greater focus. (Jupiter/Sagittarius [Jupiter Rules])

Vulcan: Should get along very well. (Leo/Sagittarius [Fire Trine])

Sanguinius: A good, balancing pair who should be able to get along. However, Sanguinius might be too fond of pouring cold water on Jaghatai Khan's enthusiasm.

Mortarion: Little in common. Unlikely to come into much contact from choice, and will drive each other insane if they do. (Scorpio/Sagittarius [Semi-Sextile])

Perturabo: Do not get along well. Jaghatai Khan does not like Perturabo's suspicious, closed in nature, and Perturabo does not like Jaghatai Khan's flamboyance and impulsiveness. (Sagittarius/Capricorn [Semi-Sextile])

Angron: Tend to get in the way of each other's plans. Both favor a fast, forceful strike, but Jaghatai Khan favors a precise and calculated strike and withdrawal whereas Angron just charges in regardless. (Mars/Sagittarius)

Corvus Corax: Both love to explore new ideas, and Jaghatai Khan's outgoingness balances Corvus Corax's more reserved nature. Should be a productive pair. (Sagittarius/Aquarius [Sextile])

Konrad Curze: Tension. Under pressure from each other, both tend to withdraw and become nebulous to evade attack rather than deal with each other head on. This tends to lead to frustration on Jaghatai Khan's side, and evasiveness and paranoia from Konrad Curze. (Sagittarius/Pisces [Mutable Square])

Rogal Dorn: Entirely opposite methods, but the goal of establishing strong rulership and identity is the same. May take a friendly but "each to his own" attitude to each other. (Sol/Sagittarius)

Leman Russ: Similar, and should get along.

IV - Perturabo
XV - The Devil
Astrological:
 Capricorn
Ruler:
The World
Exalts:
 Angron
Fall: The Eleventh
Detriment:
 The Secondess
Alchemical: Putrefaction
Qabala: 26th path

Character:

Persevering, hard-working and patient, Perturabo will pursue a goal with methodical, single minded determination. He is likely to feel great pressure of responsibility, partly because he so readily accepts it. Because of this he can start to act put-upon and be a bit of a martyr. Underneath a modest exterior he is quite ambitious, but towards realistic and practical goals.

He is a great builder, and often involved with constructing codes of behavior as well as lasting physical monuments. He can become obsessed with limitations, ironically both enforcing them ruthlessly and hating the pressure they put him under. This paradox in his nature often leads to great discontent.

He will be work-oriented and have great difficulty relaxing, adding to his general tension. He might well turn to being highly withdrawn and suspicious of others.

Perturabo forms a trio with Lorgar and Lion El'Jonson, focused on knowledge and ideological structure. Lion El'Jonson attempts to study and understand the universe, Lorgar codifies and teaches, and Perturabo represents suspicion and pressure caused by the rigidity of such structures. This trio in turn represents three aspects of the personality of the World.

At best, responsible, hard-working, methodical, practical, constructive and patient.

At worst, suspicious, tense, frustrated, cold, rigid and demanding.

Relations:

Magnus: Magnus is far too impractical and adventurous for Perturabo, who is also suspicious of Magnus's motives. Magnus finds Perturabo lacking in vision and flexibility. The relationship could end up as one long, simmering argument. (Mercury/Capricorn)

The Second: Perturabo is critical of The Second's advice and approach, and wary of his motives in reaching out to him. The Second finds Perturabo one of the most difficult of his brothers to read, and may distrust him because of it. (Moon/Capricorn)

Fulgrim: The suspicious, secretive and slightly manipulative nature of Perturabo makes the open and gregarious Empress feel threatened and defensive. However, Perturabo is the best one to show Fulgrim how to extract the most from a relationship rather than being walked all over, and one of the few who will understand Fulgrim's tendency towards possessiveness and hoarding. (Venus/Capricorn)

Horus: Tension. Have differing plans they want to set in motion.

Lorgar: Both demand a firm and inflexible code of conduct. While they can get along well, they will bring out each other's worst sides without outside influences. There will be festering resentment if one ends up dominating the relationship, and Perturabo's paranoid nature may lead him to believe this is happening even when it isn't. (Taurus/Capricorn [Earth Trine])

Alpharius: Tension. Perturabo considers Alpharius irresponsible and immature. Alpharius considers Perturabo too withdrawn and restricting. (Gemini/Capricorn [Quincunx Contra-Antiscia])

Roboute Guilliman: Both are attempting to establish security. However, Roboute Guilliman wants emotional and ideological security, while Perturabo is focused entirely on the physical. Perturabo can become far too oppressive for Roboute Guilliman's ideals.(Cancer/Virgo [Opposition])

Ferrus Manus: Tension. Have vastly differing characters and attitudes but similar goals, potentially leading to many clashes. (Libra/Capricorn [Cardinal Square])

Lion El'Jonson: The least alike of the Lorgar-Lion-Perturabo trio. Both can see potential in the other, but may also have reservations unless they get to know each other well. (Virgo/Capricorn [Earth Trine])

The Eleventh: The Eleventh tends to feel pity for Perturabo's constant withdrawal and suspicion. This is the last thing Perturabo wants from anyone. (Jupiter/Capricorn [Jupiter in Detriment])

Vulcan: No common ground, and relations will be tense unless one is willing to make a major adaptation to the other. Vulcan may well disgust Perturabo. (Leo/Capricorn [Quincunx Inconjunct])

Sanguinius: Likely to be a distant and suspicious relationship. Sanguinius does not like Perturabo's relentless focus on the practical, and Perturabo is as usual suspicious of Sanguinius's aloofness and hidden depths.

Mortarion: Both are intense crusaders. Potentially a good pair, if they can get over each other's automatic suspicion and secrecy. They may be more willing to open up to each other than to anyone else. (Scorpio/Capricorn [Sextile])

Jaghatai Khan: Do not get along well. Jaghatai Khan does not like Perturabo's suspicious, closed in nature, and Perturabo does not like Jaghatai Khan's flamboyance and impulsiveness. (Sagittarius/Capricorn [Semi-Sextile])

Angron: Perturabo is the only one on a level with Horus for reining Angron in and putting him to use. However, Perturabo's more manipulative nature can cause problems for Angron's pride if he decides he's being used to further someone else's goals at his own expense. (Mars/Capricorn [Mars Exalted])

Corvus Corax: Will probably keep a curt distance. Corvus Corax is too unpredictable and head-in-the-clouds for Perturabo, and Perturabo is too tense and restricting for Corvus Corax. (Capricorn/Aquarius [Semi-Sextile])

Konrad Curze: Mutual understanding. In this case based on withdrawal, secrets and paranoia, so while they understand each other they may well avoid each other. (Capricorn/Pisces [Sextile])

Rogal Dorn: Both concerned with building up a fixed and powerful expression of themselves. May see each other as rivals, Perturabo's tendency towards suspicion adding to the tension. (Sol/Capricorn)

Leman Russ: Potentially a good combination, with Leman Russ's energy and Perturabo's focus. Leman Russ is honest and straightforward enough not to trigger Perturabo's usual suspicion, and Perturabo can rein Leman Russ in somewhat and stop him running total riot.

XII - Angron
XVI - The Tower
Astrological:
 Mars
Rules: Horus, Mortarion
Exalted: Perturabo
Fall: Roboute Guilliman
Detriment: Lorgar, Ferrus Manus
Alchemical:
 Iron
Qabala: 27th path, 5th Sephira

Character:

An unstoppable force, and in danger of not being much else. Angron has a tendency to act, and act in the extreme, before he thinks. Bellicose, with a permanently simmering temper when not in action, punctuated by violent outbursts if he feels in any way wronged or is simply unable to expend his excess energy for whatever reason.

Angron can be tactically brilliant, so long as total annihilation of the enemy is the goal. He will also have a strong sense of honor, and defend his friends, allies and beliefs vigorously.

He has a tendency to take things very personally, and may conjure up imagined insults out of any unfortunate turn of phrase. He himself forcefully speaks his mind, regardless of any mitigating factor. While this often causes trouble, sometimes it is just what is needed.

At best, an unstoppable warrior, with superlative energy and martial skill and unshakable honor.

At worst, unrestrained and wantonly violent, unconcerned about who or why he is fighting as long as he is allowed to fight.

Relations:

Magnus: The opposite ends of energy use. Magnus is far too refined and subtle for Angron's liking, Angron far too blunt and indiscriminate for Magnus.

The Second: Distant. Neither wants to have to deal with the other personally.

Fulgrim: Mutually distant, with a degree of distaste. Each will grate on the other's sensibilities.

Horus: Horus knows exactly how to use Angron's abilities to best advantage, and doesn't hesitate to do so. Because of this the relationship is not as strained as it could easily become, both having considerable pride. (Mars/Aries [Mars Rules])

Lorgar: Constantly butting heads and both refusing to back down. Incredibly stubborn in dealing with each other. (Mars/Taurus [Mars in Detriment])

Alpharius: Alpharius has little time for Angron's unsubtle approach, nor Angron for the Lover's tendency to make everything ten times more complicated than it needs to be. (Mars/Gemini)

Roboute Guilliman: While (probably grudgingly) appreciating each other's sense of honor, Roboute Guilliman finds Angron too reckless and impulsive. Much arguing can ensue. (Mars/Cancer [Mars in Fall])

Ferrus Manus: Ferrus Manus's demand for structure and discipline is directly at odds with Angron's nature. (Mars/Libra [Mars in Detriment])

Lion El'Jonson: Lion El'Jonson can focus Angron better than most, but things rapidly deteriorate if he tries to bog Angron down in the details of his plans. (Mars/Virgo)

The Eleventh: The Eleventh tends to be over trusting that Angron has thought before acting, and may defend him. Angron might well abuse The Eleventh's trust to gain freedom to act where his other brothers would try to rein him in.

Vulcan: Vulcan is not wholly comfortable with Angron's constant aggressiveness, while Angron struggles with Vulcan's sense of compassion. (Mars/Leo)

Sanguinius: Angron may be one of the few who can get Sanguinius to lose his usual cool demeanor.

Mortarion: Mortarion is one of the few Angron will listen to when it comes to when not to act. (Mars/Scorpio [Mars Rules])

Jaghatai Khan: Tend to get in the way of each other's plans. Both favor a fast, forceful strike, but Jaghatai Khan favors a precise and calculated strike and withdrawal whereas Angron just charges in regardless. (Mars/Sagittarius)

Perturabo: Perturabo is the only one on a level with Horus for reining Angron in and putting him to use. However, Perturabo's more manipulative nature can cause problems for Angron's pride if he decides he's being used to further someone else's goals at his own expense. (Mars/Capricorn [Mars Exalted])

Corvus Corax: Little interest in each other. May come to a conflict of interests. (Mars/Aquarius)

Konrad Curze: When dealing with Konrad Curze, Angron tends to be sullen and moody rather than outwardly aggressive. Konrad Curze's nature makes Angron's direct approach far less effective than usual, and Konrad Curze feels less threat from him than he would otherwise. (Mars/Pisces)

Rogal Dorn: Neither tends to get in each other's way, but if they did, it would be like an unstoppable force against an immovable object.

Leman Russ: Superficially similar, though Leman Russ has far more focus and overall purity of purpose.

XIX - Corvus Corax
XVII - The Star
Astrological:
 Aquarius
Ruler: The World
Detriment: Rogal Dorn
Alchemical: Multiplication
Qabala: 15th path (or 28th)

Character:

Corvus Corax is likely to be detached, taciturn, and highly intellectual. He is more interested in his plans and methods than their outcome. He is also likely to be highly unconventional, which can lead to both great originality and terrible miscalculations.

The future is always a great concern for Corvus Corax, and he is a great progressive thinker. However he may become too caught up in planning for the future and neglect what is happening in the present.

He may have trouble thinking in terms of individuals; any individual problem is to him a symptom of a wider malaise. He will then set to work on this wider issue, perhaps completely ignoring the original problem. He will identify far better with groups and causes than other people, and may give the impression of liking humanity but not being overly keen on people.

Corvus Corax forms a trio with Alpharius and Ferrus Manus, focused on understanding of the universe. Alpharius gathers information and forms theories, Ferrus Manus evaluates those ideas and decides on the best path, and Corvus Corax attempts to implement that plan for the good of mankind. This trio in turn represents three aspects of the personality of The Emperor (and arguably Magnus).

At best, original, brilliant, humanitarian, objective and progressive.

At worst, detached, cold, disinterested in people, over-permissive, elitist, unpredictable and perverse.

Relations:

Magnus: Both idealists and iconoclasts, will probably be most interested in discussing philosophical ideas. Magnus might be a little frustrated by Corvus Corax's occasional hesitancy in accepting ideas that fall outside his personal boundaries.

The Second: Share an interest in the wellbeing of groups, though Corvus Corax finds it difficult to grasp The Second's one-to-one approach and tends to focus on the whole rather than the parts. (Moon/Aquarius)

Fulgrim: Mutually idealistic and get on on an intellectual level, but no great connection on an emotional level. (Venus/Aquarius)

Horus: Mutual understanding, based on independence and originality. However they may come into conflict over Rogal Dorn or their differing attitudes to the World. (Aries/Aquarius [Sextile])

Lorgar: Tension. Lorgar's orthodoxy and Corvus Corax's iconoclasm inevitably clash. (Taurus/Aquarius [Fixed Square])

Alpharius: A good relationship, as both are highly intellectual. The danger is that they will get so distracted by discussing their ideas that they will not truly get to know each other as people. (Gemini/Aquarius [Air Trine])

Roboute Guilliman: No common ground, and relations will be tense unless one is willing to make a major adaptation to the other. (Cancer/Aquarius [Quincunx Inconjunct])

Ferrus Manus: Both value reason and calculation, and should get along well. Ferrus Manus's more social bent balances Corvus Corax's taciturn nature. (Libra/Aquarius [Air Trine])

Lion El'Jonson: Tension. Likely to get into intense intellectual debates that both sulk about afterwards. (Virgo/Aquarius [Quincunx Inconjunct])

The Eleventh: While they connect on an ideological level, Corvus Corax is more reserved and finds The Eleventh a little too cheerfully optimistic. (Jupiter/Aquarius)

Vulcan: Vulcan is straightforward and warm whilst Corvus Corax is intellectual, cold and aloof. They have opposing attitudes to both Rogal Dorn and the World. While they should balance as opposites, their natures make it difficult for them to get along on a personal basis. (Leo/Aquarius [Opposition])

Sanguinius: Will quite probably get along, though in a dreamy and detached manner in which neither truly gets to know the other personally.

Mortarion: Mortarion will deeply distrust Corvus Corax, and Corvus Corax will respond with cool aloofness that only confirms Mortarion's suspicions. Corvus Corax finds Mortarion far too pessimistic. (Scorpio/Aquarius [Fixed Square])

Jaghatai Khan: Both love to explore new ideas, and Jaghatai Khan's outgoingness balances Corvus Corax's more reserved nature. Should be a productive pair. (Sagittarius/Aquarius [Sextile])

Perturabo: Will probably keep a curt distance. Corvus Corax is too unpredictable and head-in-the-clouds for Perturabo, and Perturabo is too tense and restricting for Corvus Corax. (Capricorn/Aquarius [Semi-Sextile])

Angron: Little interest in each other. May come to a conflict of interests. (Mars/Aquarius)

Konrad Curze: Little in common, but no real animosity. (Aquarius/Pisces [Semi-Sextile])

Rogal Dorn: For some undefinable reason, Rogal Dorn and Corvus Corax tend to make each other uncomfortable. (Sol/Aquarius [Sol in Detriment])

Leman Russ: Corvus Corax may admire Leman Russ's energy and individualism, but will have trouble actually relating to him.

VIII - Konrad Curze
XVIII - The Moon
Astrological:
 Pisces
Ruler: The Eleventh
Exalts:
 Fulgrim
Fall:
 Magnus
Detriment:
 Magnus
Alchemical:
 Projection
Qabala: 29th path

Character:

A psychic magnet for all sorts of negative emotions, but without any conscious control over the ability. Therefore likely to be plagued by disturbing visions. From this experience of the darkest aspects of humanity he is likely to be very suspicious of contact and of the merits of humans in general. However he is also genuinely perceptive of others’ thoughts and motivations.

Distrustful of all forms of structure and possibly a bit of an anarchist. He will be very aware of the subjective aspect of truth, which may bring him into conflict with several of his brothers.

Highly otherworldly, he probably goes through phases of deep melancholia, and always seems rather trapped in his own dreams or more likely, nightmares. He has a self-sacrificing nature that easily slips into self-abusive martyrdom and may try to take all work and blame for failure on himself.

His methods will be unorthodox and indirect, and also nebulous and difficult to pin down which makes them very difficult to analyze or attack. He will probably work best alone, and may shun command or even any company.

He forms a trio with Roboute Guilliman and Mortarion, focused on the need for fundamental changes. Konrad Curze is the need for change, Mortarion the decay or destruction of old structures, and Roboute Guilliman is the establisher of new ways (which in turn will become obsolete and decay).

At best, perceptive, inspired, and highly effective through unusual methods.

At worst, paranoid to the point of hysteria or madness, unable to connect to reality, melancholic and fatalistic.

Relations:

Magnus: Quite possibly these two will detest each other.

The Second: The Second and Konrad Curze are both powerful psychic receptors, and together heighten each other's power to dangerous levels. However, The Second is well placed to teach Konrad Curze how to handle his psychic visions. (Moon/Pisces)

Fulgrim: A mutually beneficial relationship.

Horus: Little in common, but no real animosity. (Aries/Pisces [Semi-Sextile])

Lorgar: Mutual understanding.

Alpharius: Tension. Under pressure from each other, both tend to withdraw and become nebulous to evade attack rather than deal with each other head on. (Gemini/Pisces [Mutable Square])

Roboute Guilliman: Of Roboute Guilliman-Mortarion-Curze trio, Roboute Guilliman and Konrad Curze are least alike and have the most potential for tension in a relationship that should be very harmonious. Roboute Guilliman only dismantles structure to build a better one, whereas Konrad Curze is distrustful of all structure. (Cancer/Pisces [Water Trine])

Ferrus Manus: There is some hidden, behind-the-scenes connection between these two, which makes their interaction slightly more harmonious despite their lack of common ground. This may come from their deep mutual connection to Fulgrim. (Libra/Pisces [Quincunx Antiscia])

Lion El'Jonson: Both are withdrawn and have a tendency towards self-sacrifice. However, Lion El'Jonson attempts to create structure while Konrad Curze denies and destroys it. An understanding of each other can be achieved, but the relationship will be tense. (Virgo/Pisces [Opposition])

The Eleventh: Somewhat against expectation, a good match. The Eleventh's unswerving trust in Konrad Curze gives him more confidence than he would have otherwise, and Konrad Curze can act as a warning voice to The Eleventh's boundless optimism. (Jupiter/Pisces [Jupiter Rules])

Vulcan: No common ground, and relations will be tense unless one is willing to make a major adaptation to the other. (Leo/Pisces [Quincunx Inconjunct])

Sanguinius: Konrad Curze mirrors an aspect of the personality of Sanguinius, the dark abyss that he is permanently on the edge of. The relationship will depend on how accepting Sanguinius is of this part of himself. If he can accept this in himself he is able to accept it in Konrad Curze. If not, the presence of Konrad Curze will be difficult and disturbing for Sanguinius.

Mortarion: Mortarion and Konrad Curze understand each other very well, both being aware of the hidden depths of the psyche and the need for the discarding and destruction of old ways. (Scorpio/Pisces [Water Trine])

Jaghatai Khan: Tension.

Perturabo: Mutual understanding. In this case based on withdrawal, secrets and paranoia, so while they understand each other they may well avoid each other. (Capricorn/Pisces [Sextile])

Angron: When dealing with Konrad Curze, Angron tends to be sullen and moody rather than outwardly aggressive. Konrad Curze's nature makes Angron's direct approach far less effective than usual, and Konrad Curze feels less threat from him than he would otherwise. (Mars/Pisces)

Corvus Corax: Little in common, but no real animosity. (Aquarius/Pisces [Semi-Sextile])

Rogal Dorn: The blunt and straightforward Sun has trouble with Konrad Curze's extreme sensitivity. The relationship can only work if very careful balance is maintained. (Sol/Pisces)

Leman Russ: These two are so far opposite they turn and become the same thing - the need for destruction so things can start anew. Their methods and thought processes will be vastly different, but there is always some common ground in being true opposites which can make a relationship balance.

Rules: Vulcan
Exalted:
 Horus
Fall: Ferrus Manus
Detriment: Corvus Corax
Alchemical:

Qabala: 30th path, 6th Sephira

Character:

Strong, warm and unshakable, with a strong sense of purpose in forging and maintaining identity. While he is quite able to show flexibility in his approach, in nature he is stable, balanced and well-rounded. Due to this he may become a neutral but exemplary point of comparison, and must be careful not to let this go to his head.

He tends to be frank and honest, which can come off as tactlessness if he is not careful. A good advisor and very supportive unless he believes the wrong course of action is being taken, in which case he will stand firm against it. Also very self-sufficient, rarely needing input and often outright rejecting it when offered.

Might be called into a central role, though this will detach him from the main areas of action. May go through extremely dark times, but will always emerge on the other side.

At best, strong, stable, honest, and supportive.

At worst, prideful, self-centered, stubborn, aloof and detached.

Relations:

Magnus: Might, against all probability, be a close relationship.

The Second: Potentially a very strong pair, Rogal Dorn working more in the public light and The Second behind the scenes.

Fulgrim: Fulgrim appreciates the drive and lack of hidden motives in Rogal Dorn, but may slightly envy his self-sufficiency and self-confidence.

Horus: A very strong pair, Horus establishing identity and Rogal Dorn maintaining it. Rogal Dorn is happy to work under Horus's direction, as long as it does not conflict with his own principles, and is a strong and valued advisor keeping Horus from becoming overextending himself. (Sol/Aries [Sol Exalted])

Lorgar: Rogal Dorn and Lorgar can work well together, provided that they see eye to eye on their ideals. (Sun/Taurus)

Alpharius: Rogal Dorn may worry about Alpharius' lack of consistency, and Alpharius' may find Rogal Dorn a little unadventurous. (Sol/Gemini)

Roboute Guilliman: Relations can occasionally be tense, despite similarities. (Sol/Cancer)

Ferrus Manus: Both have a sense of balance, but to Ferrus Manus this can become too much about rigidity and Rogal Dorn is not entirely comfortable with that. (Sol/Libra [Sol in Fall])

Lion El'Jonson: Lion El'Jonson's withdrawal is not easy for Rogal Dorn to deal with, and if Rogal Dorn appears too prideful Lion El'Jonson can turn quite critical. (Sol/Virgo)

The Eleventh: Rogal Dorn and The Eleventh are much alike, though Rogal Dorn is rather more balanced, centered and self controlled.

Vulcan: Very much alike in nature and outlook, and get along excellently. (Sol/Leo [Sol Rules])

Sanguinius: Work on quite different levels, and can balance or simply oppose. Sanguinius can dim Rogal Dorn's pride somewhat, and Rogal Dorn can bring out the lighter and more mischievous side of Sanguinius.

Mortarion: Do not get along, Mortarion being concerned with the breakdown of what Rogal Dorn attempts to build up. Rogal Dorn is bright and open, Mortarion is dark and secretive. (Sol/Scorpio)

Jaghatai Khan: Entirely opposite methods, but the goal of establishing strong rulership and identity is the same. May take a friendly but "each to his own" attitude to each other. (Sol/Sagittarius)

Perturabo: Both concerned with building up a fixed and powerful expression of themselves. May see each other as rivals, Perturabo's tendency towards suspicion adding to the tension. (Sol/Capricorn)

Angron: Neither tends to get in each other's way, but if they did, it would be like an unstoppable force against an immovable object.

Corvus Corax: For some undefinable reason, Rogal Dorn and Corvus Corax tend to make each other uncomfortable. (Sol/Aquarius [Sol in Detriment])

Konrad Curze: The blunt and straightforward Sun has trouble with Konrad Curze's extreme sensitivity. The relationship can only work if very careful balance is maintained. (Sol/Pisces)

Leman Russ: Like Rogal Dorn and Horus, Rogal Dorn and Leman Russ support each other, Leman Russ achieving and Rogal Dorn cementing those achievements.

VI - Leman Russ
XX - The Last Judgment
Astrological:
 Fire
Cardinal: Horus
Fixed: Vulcan
Mutable: Jaghatai Khan
Alchemical:
 Fire
Qabala: 31st path, right column

Character:

An extremely intense character, energetic and passionate. He is likely to be a strong individualist, doing his own thing regardless of the opinions of others. He does not however break rules or go against other's wishes just for the sake of it. He works from his instincts, and may on occasion have trouble justifying his actions, even to himself, beyond "it just feels like the right thing to do". These instincts will rarely lead him astray, and mistakes are far more likely to come from another's interference in his decisions.

He is likely to be highly direct and honest, disliking subterfuge and hidden agendas. A bit of an extremist with an all or nothing approach to everything in life. While he is not incapable of subtlety, it takes the form of the subtle effects of direct action.

Like The Eleventh, he may have a good deal of fun-loving boisterousness in his nature.

It is quite possible that he will in some way combine the best qualities of Horus (leadership), Vulcan (warmth), Jaghatai Khan (calculated swiftness) and Angron (energy) without falling to their flaws (egomania, need for attention, tactlessness, and wanton destructiveness). On the flip side he is quite susceptible to all of these flaws. However as one of only two Primarchs representing pure elements (the other being Sanguinius) he is more likely to transcend what in others would be fatal flaws.

It is probable that he will be instrumental in the final destruction of the system, and that he will do this without regrets because he knows its time is at an end.

At best, unhesitating, definite, revolutionary and with flawless instincts.

At worst, rash, extreme, violent, hot-tempered, moody, and uncontrollable.

Relations:

Magnus: Leman Russ ultimately represents the end of what Magnus has built. Magnus should recognise the need to wipe things out and start again if everything goes wrong, and accept that Leman Russ plays an important role in holding his creation in check. If he cannot, this will be a very difficult relationship.

The Second: May appreciate the fact that they are balancing opposites, and have a surprisingly close relationship despite their clear differences in nature.

Fulgrim: Approximate opposites. They appreciate each other's desire to create a better world. But as with Jaghatai Khan, Fulgrim distrusts Leman Russ's blunt directness, lack of tact and unwillingness to settle for a moment and appreciate the finer things in life.

Horus: Unless their ideals clash, there should be no particular tension.

Lorgar: Leman Russ's free-spirited individualism goes against Lorgar's love of formality and orthodoxy. While Leman Russ is unlikely to be concerned over Lorgar's exasperation with him, he will rebel violently if he feels Lorgar is too controlling. In turn Lorgar can well hold long and bitter grudges against Leman Russ's constant refusal to fit into a formal setting.

Alpharius: Probably no real tension, but ultimately little in common.

Roboute Guilliman: If Roboute Guilliman can get over certain clashing aspects of their personalities and realize their similarities, they could get along well. However if Roboute Guilliman focuses only on their differences he can become critical and moody, creating a lot of ill feeling.

Ferrus Manus: Have the potential to get along on a social level, but may have trouble working together.

Lion El'Jonson: Unlikely to come into contact much, and will barely tolerate each other when they do.

The Eleventh: Get along extremely well, but The Eleventh can get a little left behind when Leman Russ turns serious.

Vulcan: Leman Russ's unrelenting intensity is rather uncomfortable for Vulcan, who likes to relax slightly once in a while. However they should get along unless they are forced into close quarters for an extended period of time.

Sanguinius: The most pure and direct pair of opposites possible. Due to the purity of both natures, it is more likely that they will complement rather than clash, or at least not interfere with each other. Fortunate, as the consequences of a conflict between these two could be dire.

Mortarion: Little in common as far as personality is concerned. Might get on each other's nerves, which considering the personalities involved could well end in a fight.

Jaghatai Khan: Similar, and should get along.

Perturabo: Potentially a good combination, with Leman Russ's energy and Perturabo's focus. Leman Russ is honest and straightforward enough not to trigger Perturabo's usual suspicion, and Perturabo can rein Leman Russ in somewhat and stop him running total riot.

Angron: Superficially similar, though Leman Russ has far more focus and overall purity of purpose.

Corvus Corax: Corvus Corax may admire Leman Russ's energy and individualism, but will have trouble actually relating to him.

Konrad Curze: These two are so far opposite they turn and become the same thing - the need for destruction so things can start anew. Their methods and thought processes will be vastly different, but there is always some common ground in being true opposites which can make a relationship balance.

Rogal Dorn: Like Rogal Dorn and Horus, Rogal Dorn and Leman Russ support each other, Leman Russ achieving and Rogal Dorn cementing those achievements.
