This internship will provide the incumbent with the opportunity to learn how Baker Library approaches selecting, acquiring, and making print and e-books discoverable. The internship will culminate with a presentation and recommendations based on their research.

  • Contributes to creating a welcoming and diverse library collections and displays.
  • Conducts literature reviews (and/or surveys) to learn how our peers are managing this work at their libraries, determining which areas of diversity to focus on or expand and understand how these new areas relate to our existing areas of collecting
  • Engages with publishers and small presses.
  • Collaborates on developing a new set of guiding principles to ensure that Baker Library’s Contemporary Collections are meeting their goal to “responsibly and ethically build and maintain a relevant, inclusive collection”.

  • Currently enrolled in a master’s degree in library, Information Science program
  • Proven record of contributing to and promoting EDIBA (Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Belonging and Antiracism) efforts and initiatives within an organization

  • Strong organizational skills​
  • Proficient knowledge or demonstrated interest in collection development processes and policies
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and writing skills
  • Ability to collaborate and contribute to various group projects within the department, across Baker Library and the Harvard Library
  • Exhibits excellent critical thinking skills to solve problems
  • Experience in working collaboratively and productively with colleagues and stakeholders
