Minecraft Criminal Code 2025
Whereas the Criminal Code is not sufficient for the Minecraft Server,
Whereas the Minecraft Server needs its own criminal code,
Therefore the following is passed.
Part 1 - The SimDemocracy Criminal Code
Article 1 - The SimDemocracy Criminal Code
§1. This act shall be subordinate to the official SimDemocracy Criminal Code.
§1.1. Any part of the criminal code that does not contradict this act is still in force on the Minecraft server.
§2. Court cases for Minecraft Only Crimes are to be judged initially by the Minecraft Server Colony Courts but may be appealed to the SimDemocracy Inferior Courts.
Part 2 - Minecraft Only Crimes
Article 2 - Theft
§1. Taking items from another player without permission, shall constitute theft.
§1.1. Theft is to be punished depending on the extent of the theft.
§1.2. Punishments for theft will range from a 24 hour prison sentence to a one month ban.
§2. If the theft involves attacking a player or pet, it shall constitute violent theft.
§2.1. Violent theft is to receive a harsher punishment than non-violent theft.
§2.2. Punishment for violent theft will range from a 48 hour ban up to a 3 month ban.
Article 3 - Griefing
§1. Griefing shall constitute purposely destroying a build that you do not own.
§1.1. Punishments for griefing will depend on the extent of the damage, and will range from a one month prison sentence to an execution followed by a perma-ban.
§1.2. The Defendant, if found guilty, is obliged to rebuild the damage they have done or has to pay appropriate compensation, as determined by the presiding judge.
Article 4 - Murder
§1. Murder is killing another player without the consent of the person being killed.
§1.1. Punishments for murder can range from one week in prison or an execution followed by a perma-ban.
Article 5 - Property Damage
§1. Property Damage shall be separate from griefing, and shall include killing farm animals, pets, and villagers, in addition to any partial destruction of a building, farm, road, or other player-made structure that might not constitute griefing.
§1.1. The punishment for property damage shall depend on the damage done.
§1.2. Punishment shall range from a one day prison sentence to a one year prison sentence.
§1.3. The Defendant, if found guilty, is obliged to rebuild the damage they have done or pay compensation, as determined by the presiding judge.
Article 6 - Assault
§1. A player attacking another player but failing to kill them shall constitute assault.
§1.1. Punishments for assault are to range from a one day prison sentence to a one month prison sentence.
Article 7 - Manslaughter
§1. Killing another player by accident or through negligence shall constitute manslaughter.
§1.1. Punishments for manslaughter are to range from a 48 hours prison sentence to a perma-ban.
Article 7 - Self Defense
§1. If a person can prove that they committed murder, assault, or property damage while attempting to defend themselves, then they should not receive punishment.
§2. Self defense is not a valid reason to grief or commit theft.
Part 3 - Punishment
Article 8 - Prison Sentences
§1. A prison sentence of any length of time shall see the individual sent to the prison in Yerver for a certain amount of time.
§2. A prison sentence can be replaced with a temporary ban at the judge’s discretion.
§3. At the end of the sentence, the person punished is to be released from prison or unbanned as quickly as possible.
§3.1. They are to be notified that they have been released or are no longer banned immediately after by the official who unbanned them.
Article 9 - Exile
§1. A temporary ban or prison sentence of greater than one week can be replaced with temporary exile at the judge’s discretion.
§2. A permanent ban can be replaced with permanent exile at the judge’s discretion.
§3. If a person is exiled, they must go at least 200 blocks from any settlements.
§3.1. At no point can an exiled person go closer to a settlement, unless they are going to Mookland Port.
§4. If an exiled individual breaks the terms of their exile, their punishment is to be transferred to either a temporary or a perma-ban.
§4.1. The amount of time they are banned is to be double the amount of time that they were initially exiled for.
§5. An exiled individual is to be given 48 hours to flee into exile, if they have not left in that amount of time, they are to be considered as having broken the terms of their exile.
Article 10 - Fines
§1. A prison sentence of less than one month can be replaced with a fine with the judge’s permission.
§2. The judge presiding over the case is to determine a reasonable fine for the crime committed.
§3. A fine may be paid for in tau or in the currency of the Minecraft server.
Article 11 - Sentencing Guidelines
§1. A judge should use the frameworks included in the Sentencing Act when determining punishments.
