Activities: Choose one

Sit with your child and play “I say and You Point.” You state the word for a facial or body part, such as “la nariz” or “las manos,” and your child points to the part you named. Switch back and forth, assuming the say and point roles. Body parts include “la nariz” (nose), “ los ojos” (eyes), “los dientes” (teeth), and “la cabeza” (head).

Create or draw a character and label the body parts.

Episode 112: The Wolf's Share

Activities: Choose one

How many food items can you retell?

Ask your family members if they like "papas fritas”. Mamá/Papá, te gustan las papas fritas?

Teach everyone in your family the word "papas fritas” french fries. (Literal translation is fried potatoes), and amigos = friends.

Describe in Spanish your best best friend. (tell your parents or write it down)

Se llama….es creativa/o, attletica/o, inteligente…

Le gusta… No le gusta. Vive en….

Episode 113: Three Clever Goats

Activities: Choose one

Draw or create a monster  (use cardboard, legos, pipe cleaners, play-doh, anything!) and write at least 3 sentences in spanish about him/her.

Play with your family “Sra. Markel dice….””but instead use your name!

Teach them the word Salta=jump, corre=run, camina=walk despacio=slow, rápido=fast

Como un = like a

Pinguino, perro, gato, gorila, ratón, robot, dragon, unicornio, monstruo.

Example: Salta tres veces (three times) como un gorila felíz/triste/furioso

Episode 114: Special Delivery

Activities:Choose one

Write down how many times you heard the word “queso” and “"tomate”

Play time! Have children form a circle and drop hands. Choose one player to be “it.” Provide “it” with a make-believe pizza (e.g, a toy food pizza or a cardboard cutout). Have “it” walk around the outside of the circle while chanting “el tomate, el queso, el tomate, el queso” as he/she goes. At some point in the chant, “it” should drop the pizza, saying, “ la pizza!” and then running in the circle. The child behind whom the pizza has been dropped should pursue “it,” running in the same direction. The object is to reach the empty spot in the circle and fill it again. Whoever is left without a space in the circle picks up “la pizza” and repeats the play. Note: The signal word and chant can be changed in order to encourage the development of good listening skills and personal adaptability.

Episode 115: Quiz Show

Activity:

Craft an object out of any material that he/she can name in Spanish (or draw it) .Examples include, but are not limited to: un carro morado ( a purple car), un perro morado ( a purple dog), un monstruo morado ( a purple monster), una cabeza morada (a purple head), una nariz morada (a purple nose), las papas fritas moradas ( the purple french fries), los ojos morados (purple eyes), los dientes morados ( purple teeth), las orejas moradas ( purple ears), una banana morada (a purple banana), una manzana morada ( a purple apple), un lobo morado ( a purple wolf). Note: Combining words into simple phrases may be too difficult for some children. If so, simply ask your child to tell the color and /or name of the object.

Episode 116: Monster Mayhem

Activity:

Player one starts out saying, “I packed the bag of “el monstruo” and in it I put a(n) ________. “ (For example: “I packed the bag of “el monstruo “and in it I put a queso.”) The next player continues the game by repeating what the first person said and adding his/her own item to the list. Play continues as each player repeats the sentence in correct word order and then adds an item to the growing list of packed items. (In this version of the game, players having difficulty with sequence or word order may enlist the help of other players.) At the end of a round, provide each child with a piece of paper and ask him/her to draw the items that were put in the bag of “el monstruo.” Ask them to add a drawing of “el monstruo “ to the page with the packed items so we will know what the monster looks like.

Episode 117: Happy Birthday, Monster!

Activities:Choose one

Provide your child with appropriate magazines. Ask him/her to search s and find five pictures of things that show “contento” (content/happy.) Have him/her cut out the pictures and then count them in Spanish to verify that he/she has found five. Select a picture and discuss why it shows “contento.” Paste each picture onto a sheet of construction paper. Label the pages with the word “contento” and perhaps a sentence about the picture. Repeat the activity for “triste.” Compile the completed pages for “contento” and “triste” to make a booklet..

Look through your baby photos and find a photo where you were “contento/a” and another where you were “triste”.

Episode 118: Highway Robbery

Activities:

Provide “junk” or scrap materials (toilet paper tubes, boxes, bottle caps, etc.) or legos, etc. and encourage your child to build a town with “seis” (six) and "siete” (seven) buildings. Have your child identify the buildings and label if they are "grande” big or "pequeno”small Leave the buildings out so your child can return to them throughout the next few days. Continue exploring other things that can be added to the town, such as parques=parks, carros=cars, etc. Continue with the activity as long as your child’s interest remains high.

Count in Spanish as many “seis” (six) and "siete” (seven) things you can find in your house.

Episode 119: The Little Red Hen

Activities:

Working with your child, create a special grouping of his/her favorite stuffed animals. Have your child identify animals in Spanish wherever applicable (i.e., el gato for cat, el oso for bear, el perro for dog, el lobo for wolf, el chivo for goat). To extend the activity, encourage your child to suggest ways to sort the collection of animals (e.g., animals with long ears and animals that do not have long ears, animals that are brown and those that are not brown, etc.). Try sorting according to the suggested method(s). Count the animals in each sorted pile, using Spanish numbers and color words.

Teach someone in your family the word "cansado/a” = tired. Also felíz, triste, furioso/a

Episode 120: The Armadillo's Hamburgers

Activities:

Have your child brainstorm all the places that he/she has gotten or eaten “hamburguesas.” Record the responses on a piece of chart paper. Count (in Spanish) the number of places

Draw an "hamburguesa” character and write as many sentences as you can (in Spanish) describing him/her.

What's his/her name, what color it is, what ingredients the "hamburguesa”has, how old is he/she, what he/she likes, etc…

Se llama (his/her name is)

Es= is description

Está = is (emotion/location)

Tiene =he/she has

Le gusta= he/she likes

Episode 121: The Fruit Fiasco

Activities to choose:

Make a tower balancing some of your toys!. See if you can get at least "nueve”(nine). Count them in Spanish as you build your tower!

Count in Spanish as many “nueve” (nine) things you can find in your house.

Try to name "nueve”different colors.

and/or "nueve”different animals, and/or "nueve”different words in Spanish. If you are feeling artistic, you can draw them and label them!

Episode 122: Finally Nine

Activities to choose:

Count how many times you hear the words "papel”(paper) and "lápiz”(pencil)

Game time: Each member of your family gets a sheet of "papel” . You have "nueve” seconds to make an airplane. ¡Muy rápido! Now ,try to make them fly. See which airplane goes farthest. You have "nueve” attempts!

Call a family member and ask them if they can count until ten in Spanish!

If they don't, ask them to repeat after you! You are their Spanish teacher now!

Episode 123: Quiz Show II: The Broken Glasses

Activities to choose:

Get moving! Go to your backyard or outside and tell someone in your family if "hace frio”(it's cold) or "hace calor” (it's hot). Now, complete these tasks!:

- salta seis veces.

- salta ocho veces como un elefante furioso.

-corre por dos (2) minutos como un dinosaurio felíz.

-salta diez (10) veces como un dragón triste.

Now tell me..¿Tienes mucho frío o tienes mucho calor?

Get a papel and lápiz (pencil) and ask each member or your family what do they prefer "¿Qué prefieres, frío o calor?”

Escribe (write down) their answers.

Episode 124: A Dark and Stormy Night

Activities to choose:

Count how many times you hear the words "pastel” (cake) and "tengo hambre” (I'm hungry).

Bake a pastel with a family member. Take a picture of you and your "pastel”.

When you are hungry tell someone "tengo hambre”

Episode 125: The Race

Activities to choose:

Play time: Create a train from chairs, large blocks, or boxes to enhance dramatic play. Encourage your child to use appropriate Spanish vocabulary as he/she engages in train role-play (i.e., el tren, counting uno, dos, tres…, food service - las manzanas, las bananas, la pizza, el chocolate, las uvas, etc.)

Call or facetime a classmate! Try to speak as much Spanish as you can!

Play the game ¿Qué prefieres? And give options (e.i ¿Qúe prefieres azul o rojo? (colors)

Perros o gatos (animals), número tres o cinco (numbers), frío o calor, saltar, correr o caminar, leer o escribir, rápido o despacio...etc.

Episode 126: The Goat's Vacation

Activities to choose:

Family Talk: Talk about your favorite family "vacaciones” (vacations) and why it was so special.

Can you count until diez (ten) ? Now try to count it backwards! Diez, nueve, ocho, siete, seis, cinco, cuatro, tres, dos, uno.

Draw "diez” of your favorite things you can't live without. Share it with a family member.
