About the GhanaThink Foundation
The GhanaThink Foundation is a social enterprise that mobilizes and organizes talent for the primary benefit of Ghana. The GhanaThink Foundation is registered in Ghana and the USA. Our vision is to build a critical mass of patriotic, passionate, positive, proactive, progressive, and productive young Ghanaian people. We work in the youth empowerment space and we run mentoring, networking, volunteering and training programs.
We partner organizations, companies who are looking to engage driven, tech savvy, hard working, influential youth across Ghana and beyond - in helping them meet their organizational and business goals.
GhanaThink has been nominated and named amongst the best social enterprises in Africa. Our current programs are Barcamp Ghana, Junior Camp Ghana (JCG), Ghana Volunteer Program (GVP), Komseko Program. We also run communities around 28 locations in Ghana - called Konnect. We have various services for clients that are focused on youth.
Through our projects, GhanaThink has given birth to Museke, Kasahorow, ReachGhana, which we incubated for a few years and now are autonomous. We also have projects that include Diaspora Camp (which manages Konnect groups outside Ghana), Jobcamp Ghana, AgroGhana, Anokwale, GhanaianDream, TechCamp West Africa, FiestaDebate, etc.
GhanaThink has local teams in all the 10 regional capitals as well as Kasoa and Tema that drive our projects as well as partner projects. We have networking communities of great youth in 28 locations in Ghana via our Konnect initiative. These communities have Whatsapp groups (per location) as well as 12 Google groups linked by nearest locations.
GhanaThink is run by more than 100 volunteer members. Various teams of GhanaThink members in different towns organize the Barcamps and other local initiatives with the support of the national teams for the 4 programs. Our GhanaThink members are some of the most influential young Ghanaians who have excelled in their various fields of endeavours.
GhanaThink leverages social media a lot in what we do, for promotion, information, discussion, etc. We have 16 very active Facebook pages (that are location specific) with an aggregate number of fans at 50000 (as of year end 2023) We have 16 very active Twitter accounts (also location specific) with an aggregate number of followers at 75000 (as of year end 2023). Many of our GhanaThink members are social media influencers with more than 10 of them having at least 5000 followers each on Twitter.
Our Barcamp Ghana program is building a network of changemakers, doers and entrepreneurs. It involves learning, sharing, networking, and mentoring. Since December 2008, we have organized 150+ Barcamps - free networking forums - in Ghana, impacting over 27000 participants. A BarCamp is a user-generated conference (or unconference). It is an open, participatory workshop-event, whose content is provided by participants. They bring together for an event of learning, sharing, networking and mentoring. They happen on Saturdays and participation is about 100-400 based on location. Barcamp Ghana has been instrumental in creation and growth of our other programs. We have partnered with Verdant Global on Barcamp Ada and Barcamp Somanya. Through partnerships, we have also had Barcamps at UPSA, UDS (Wa), Ashesi, Kintampo as well as subject specific ones around science and technology.
Our Junior Camp Ghana (JCG) program provides value to high school students in Ghana, focusing on career mentoring and building skills. It targets youth between the ages of 12 – 18 years. Students are exposed to multiple career paths and opportunities, gain skills and are connected to mentors. It has opened doors for students to gain internships and other professional opportunities. More than 17000 high school students have been directly impacted by our Junior Camps. Through partnerships like that with the National Science & Maths Quiz, etc, more than 3000 students have been directly impacted as well.
Our Ghana Volunteer Program (GVP) matches volunteers to volunteer opportunities around Ghana. This program seeks to encourage volunteerism in Ghana, and to market and make attractive volunteer activities. GVP also helps volunteer activity organizers find volunteers. Our major activity is the National Volunteer Day, which falls on the 21st of September. This day marks Founder’s Day and we expect as many people in Ghana as possible to volunteer around that time. On December 5, 2013, on the occasion of International Volunteer Day, the previous NVDay team launched the Ghana Volunteer Program. On average, each year has had more than 60 volunteer activities around September 21, with about 300 volunteers involved and thousands benefitting from these volunteeringh activities.
Our Ghana Youth Social Entrepreneurship Program (GYSEP) - Komseko trains and supports youth in Ghana in various professional, topical and sectoral skills. It began in 2017 through a partnership with the Digital Opportunity Trust. Social entrepreneurs and other participant groups are trained in workshops, through online courses, etc. They are also mentored. The training is free. The program includes competitive aspects where the top ranked trainees are awarded prizes and other benefits. There have been 2 cohorts of new social entrepreneurs: 20 in 2017, 24 in 2018, 41 in 2022. 1400 youth were also trained in digital skills in 2022-2023. As part of the STAR-Ghana Kofkro project, 135 youth were trained in digital and entrepreneurial skills in 2025.
