LOKI DOKI DOKI  TAOBAO SHOPPING SERVICE POLICIES

I’m an Australian-based shopping service, and have been handling Taobao orders since mid-2016. I purchase Chinese lolita and Japanese street style fashion, and can help with finding items for additional fees.

NB: Chinese currency is referred to colloquially as yuan/CNY or renmenbi/RMB. I used the term RMB.

Preorders (how most Chinese Lolita fashion releases are made)

1A. The typical Taobao order process is below.

** exceptions will be made for ‘bloodbath’ or extremely popular orders. I will be able to determine which orders these will be.

1B. Many Chinese lolita brands work through the preorder method.

The seller will showcase what is available for sale and take deposit payments. After the preorder period is over, production of the item starts. After the item is produced, the store will take final payments/balance payments, and then send items out within China.

To ensure buyer commitment to preorders, I request that half of the cost of the balance payment is paid upfront before making the order.

Example:

This bag costs RMB148 in total. It requires a RMB48 deposit to reserve your order.

Deposit payment: RMB48.

Final payment/balance payment: RMB100.

Half of the final payment/balance payment: RMB50.

Payment needed to make the deposit: RMB48 + RMB50 = RMB98

Remaining payment needed for this bag: RMB50 + cost of shipping within China. Cost of shipping within China tends to be around ~20RMB (with exceptions to large or heavy items).

A shopping service fee will be added on top of the AUD total cost of the bag (e.g. RMB98 + RMB50 + cost of shipping within China). See point 4 for shopping service fees.

You will also need to pay for overseas shipping from China to your delivery address.

The Taobao order process for preorders is as follows:

** exceptions will be made for ‘bloodbath’ or extremely popular preorders. I will be able to determine which orders these will be.

1C. 意向金 or ‘intention payments’ are increasingly used in place of ‘preorders’ for Chinese lolita brands. The function of ‘intention payments’ are an expression of interest in order for a product to be made. Small intention payments, ranging from 0.10 to 10RMB (about $0.02 to $2AUD), are used to indicate a buyer’s intention to order an item - if enough intention payments are made, the store will make the product, and the product will usually be available to purchase for buyer ID numbers who made an intention payment. Not all intention payments are refundable by stores if the store does not find that enough intention payments are made.

2. If purchases or reservations are unsuccessful, a refund will be made, including Taobao’s bank transaction fees.

3. No cancellations, exchanges, or refunds after purchases, unless it is an error on my part.

Shopping service costs

4A. The charges and fees involved are as follows:

  • Item price and shipping within China, from store to forwarding warehouse.
  • 10% fee on the AUD cost of these items.
  • There is an additional Paypal transaction fee - 2.6% + 30 cents (AUD) for payments made from Australian accounts or 3.6% + 30 cents (AUD) for payments made from accounts outside of Australia.

4B. If you would like me to help you search items for you (different shoe sizes for generic shoes, etc.), there will be an additional 10% shopping service fee for this.

4C. If you have questions about your order, please have questions ready when you submit the order form. Most information about most orders, such as cost, will be posted on the LOKI DOKI DOKI page. Any excessive questions that cover information already addressed in these posts will incur an increase in the shopping service fee.

Overseas shipping and related costs

5A. Items to be sent to Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Japan can be held for 60 days in a Taobao forwarding warehouse. After 60 days, the package will be discarded by the warehouse. 

You will be informed when your items arrive in the forwarding warehouse, and given a ~3-5 day notice before the 60 day free holding period will end.

If you are buying a large quantity of ready stock items, keep this in mind when ordering. If you order these ready stock items in the same time period and they are sent out by the store to the forwarding warehouse in the same time period, you can minimise your warehouse holding fees and maximise the amount of items you can ship out together.

5B. October 2020 update: Wigs and items sent to any countries other than Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Japan can be held for 3 months in a separate forwarding warehouse, which only accepts payment in USD.

This storage time can be extended for an additional fee. Photos of your order can also be requested for an additional fee.

Packages that are held for over 3 months without paying the extra storage fee are discarded by the warehouse. The extra storage fee for >3 month storage is 10RMB per item.

6A. September 2022 update: there is a change in cost of standard warehouse shipping, related to COVID-19 affecting the cost of freight since March 2020.

The cheapest shipping costs for Australia in AUD is as follows (AUD is estimated from RMB price):

  • ~20 AUD per 500 gram weight bracket

Note: the Australian 10% Good and Services Tax is automatically applied on all purchases freighted to Australia.

This cost will vary for shipping to New Zealand, Canada and Japan.

The cheapest shipping costs for New Zealand in AUD is as follows (AUD is estimated from RMB price):

  • ~22AUD for the first 1 kilogram
  • ~7AUD for each subsequent 500 gram weight bracket

Note: the New Zealand 15% Good and Services Tax is automatically applied on all purchases freighted to New Zealand.

The cheapest shipping costs for Canada in AUD is as follows (AUD is estimated from RMB price):

  • ~28AUD for the first 500 grams
  • ~13.5AUD for each subsequent 500 gram weight bracket

The cheapest shipping costs for Japan in AUD is as follows (AUD is estimated from RMB price):

  • ~15AUD for the first 1 kilogram
  • ~5AUD for each subsequent 500 gram weight bracket

6B. Some exceptions apply to this rule: volumetric shipping for large packages that are light or weigh very little, will have an expensive shipping cost due to the package size.

6C. Shipping is primarily available to Australia, New Zealand,  Canada and Japan. International shipping to other countries is available - please ask for a quote.

6D. Please be aware of local taxes applied to inbound packages from China to your delivery address, e.g. 10% GST for all packages entering Australia, 15% GST for all packages entering New Zealand, variable value-added tax (VAT) for member states of the European Union.

If taxation is applied to your package during the final payment/balance payment or shipping payment stage, I will let you know to the best of my ability. If you need to pay additional taxes for your package to your government, etc. after this, this is outside of my responsibility.

Other (including banned items)

I will purchase certain body pillows but not R18+ or censored materials.

7B. Wigs are now ‘contraband’ items from the Taobao forwarding warehouses. There is a second warehouse available as a workaround to this ban - shipping costs will increase starting from ~20AUD/kg, and the shipping cost will stay at this rate (i.e. the equivalent cost of shipping per kilogram will not decrease with heavier purchases, as is typical in section 6).

This warehouse is the same warehouse that is used for purchases for customers not in Australia, New Zealand, America, Canada or Singapore.

7C. November 2017: Orders are no longer accepted from 2.taobao or 闲鱼 - these platforms do not accept foreign payment.

7D. October 2022: Due to cosplay stores being very variable in quality, including accuracy of clothing size as listed on clothing charts provided by the store, orders for cosplay clothing will be accepted on an ad hoc basis. Orders for cosplay wigs and accessories will still be accepted.

8. July 2022: The flat exchange rate is 4.3RMB to 1AUD, which is a close approximation of my bank’s fluctuating AUD/RMB exchange rate.

 

9. March 2025: All submitted order forms are to be considered as commitment to purchase. Failure to pay a preorder on time OR failure to pay for 90% of items that you have demonstrated interest in buying may result in a ban. Understanding that circumstances change and sometimes things happen beyond our control, there is a ‘3 strikes’ rule on failure to pay preorders by payment deadline or failure to pay for 90% of items in your order form. Following three ‘failures of payment’ on preorders or 90% of items in your order form will result in a ban.

10. These policies are subject to change as I determine what works best. I maintain the right to refuse service.
