Working with ITS metadata specialists, and with other stakeholders at Harvard, the intern will support our Linked Data Strategy by participating in guided research to identify opportunities for Harvard Library to improve discovery with linked data, creating or enriching linked data entities and descriptions, and proposing improvements to current practices.

  • Research linked data and identity management implementations
  • Assess the impact of exposing our collections on linked data platforms
  • Pilot identity management practices
  • Gain experience with specialized metadata work and the impact of metadata practices on discovery
  • Become familiar with linked data resources, tools, and technologies
  • Develop or exercise more generalized skills in data transformation, assessment, and cleanup

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate library science program or a related, graduate-level field of study
  • Progress toward completion of a metadata or information technology component of a Library and Information Science program
  • Basic familiarity with Google Drive, Zoom, and other office software
  • Demonstrated commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Belonging and Antiracism

  • Conceptual understanding of library cataloging principles and interest in exploring alternative discovery strategies
  • Basic familiarity with linked open data principles
  • Coding skills and familiarity with tools such as Github and Docker are helpful but not required; these may open up possibilities for forming potential projects around open-source software
  • Attention to detail
