PHAIDEI BANG HARD!
A ☀️🍷🔄❌ MINI BANG EVENT
PHAIDEI BANG HARD! is a N/SFW Honkai: Star Rail fandom mini bang event open to all 18+ fan artists and fic writers.
Regardless of rating, all works should only feature depictions of Top Phainon x Bottom Mydei, otherwise known as “Phaidei” (☀️🍷🔄❌)
Switch or “Myphai” (Top Mydei x Bottom Phainon) content is not permitted.
A mini bang is a fandom event where writers anonymously pitch an idea for a 5k+ fic and artists will select the pitches they want to draw one (1) fully illustrated piece for.
These events are free for anybody to join so long as they can commit to the schedule, and are intended to form community bonds and hopefully make new friends.
Mini bangs are not an event that is run for-profit, and there is no physical production of items at the end nor a formalized bundle PDF/document.
PHAIDEI BANG HARD! / The Phaidai Mini Bang is not affiliated with Hoyoverse.

* The sign-up period is dependent on the number of people who choose to sign up, and may close earlier than the anticipated date. This is to ensure that everyone who signs up is able to be matched, and that we don’t end up with very unbalanced numbers of writers vs artists. We recommend signing up early to avoid disappointment!
** Artists may be given additional time for picking their top 5 choices if the catalogue is big enough to require it, which will postpone the final matching date accordingly.
The event is staffed as follows. All staff members are over the age of 18.
— Staff: moderate the server and check-ins for their groups.

Silvio
— Admin: primary organizer(s) of the event.

Artists are expected to create at least one (1) fully illustrated piece in your style to be posted alongside a writer's fic. Over the course of the event, you will be expected to:
*We are estimating that you'll need to pick a minimum of 5, but this may change depending on numbers. Picking more options increases the odds of all writers and artists getting a partner, and makes it more likely that you can be paired with someone whose idea you are genuinely excited about.
We are not operating on a "first come first serve" basis when it comes to claiming pitches the way some other bangs do. This is because it's impossible to do this in a way where all timezones are equally able to take part.
Digital and traditional art mediums are both accepted. We would expect any characters depicted in these drawings to be fully complete and colored (unless agreed otherwise, or if your art style does not exist in full color). Full backgrounds are appreciated but optional.
We are willing to consider other forms of art, e.g. handicrafts like embroidery, music, etc—please reach out if this is something you'd like to explore, and we're happy to have a conversation.
In general, we don't want someone to feel like the art for their fic has been rushed or is incomplete. Your piece must be finished by the time the bang ends, as it would be unfair to your writing partner if they finish their fic and your art is incomplete.
Writers are expected to:
SPECIFICS OF PITCHING — At the time of pitching, you will need to be prepared to “sell” your idea to the artists. Your pitch will include:
The fic that you write:
The reason we ask for completion by the end of the posting period is because it is unfair to your bang partners (artist and potentially a beta) to work with you and complete their work if you do not then complete yours on time.
Betas who sign up will be expected to work closely with their writer(s) to beta-read their fics. You can select as many or as few fics to work with as you like.
You will have flexibility to approach beta work with your writer(s) as you see fit. However, we suggest that you:
For example: some writers will not want significant critique and only want a second pair of eyes for spell-checking. Some will want a more thorough review, including story set-up analysis, characterisation insight, thematic analysis, spelling and grammar, etc.
While we are asking writers in the sign-up form about the kind of insight they'd like, we do encourage you to speak with the writers after you have been matched. Staff will be available to assist if necessary.
Above all else, please ensure that you don't leave unsolicited criticism. While you are a beta reader, this doesn't give you free reign to critique all aspects of the story without the writer telling you that they're okay with it. Please be sensitive to the needs of your writer.
Pinch hitters exist for all the positions above.
A pinch hitter is someone who fills in when someone has to drop out for any reason. This will mean you will have less time to complete any pieces and you may need to be flexible.
Writer pinch hitters - we will show you the artwork and see if you can create a story that works with the scene depicted.
Artist pinch hitters - we will show you the fic and see if you can create an artwork inspired by the fic plot.
Beta pinch hitters - we will send you a plot summary and word count as well as what the writer is looking for in a beta and you can decide if it matches your availability and skills.
The short version is:
If you already have someone you want to work with when you join the event, there will be a space on the form to note this.
On the other hand, if you have people you do NOT want to work with, you’ll have a place to let us know, and we’ll make sure you don’t get matched with them.
We'll try and figure out a way forward. Initially we may approach artists who indicated they might be comfortable taking on two projects if they might be comfortable picking up an additional match and offer your prompt to them. Next we may approach a pinch hitter. We may have someone on the staff team who is comfortable drawing for your fic.
Only after we've exhausted all the possible avenues would we approach you to let you know that you haven't been able to be matched and to discuss your options. If there is no pair available to you, you'd be welcome to stay in the server for the community aspect and just work on your own piece. Alternatively, we may be able to offer you an opportunity to send in a new idea to see if a different pitch is more appealing to the artists available. Ultimately we'll do everything we can to get you a partner, but we can't fully guarantee it.
Admins will try and match everyone as best we can and ensure as many people as possible have a match after summary selection. This does mean that if you're the only person who selected prompt SFW17, that's the prompt you're going to be given, even if it was your fourth choice. Therefore, please be careful to only list prompts you're genuinely happy to work with.
It may happen that there are several artists who all have the same preferences. Assuming this does happen, we'll first look to see if any of the artists indicated they were happy to pinch hit or to work on pieces other than the ones they selected, and we'll talk them through the other prompts that are available. If this isn't possible, we'll randomly choose who gets what prompt, and speak to artists who haven't been paired as a result. We'll then walk you through the other pitch options to have you select one, or you can choose to leave the event at that stage.
Check-ins will be done on an informal basis. You'll have a small channel or group area called a “pod” and be assigned to a specific staff member (“Pod Mod”) to look after everyone in your group. Pod Mods will post reminders about check-ins periodically, and to complete the check-in you'll need to DM that mod, or post in that channel your progress via e.g. a wip document or screenshot.
The check-ins aren't hard and fast, they're mainly intended to make sure that people are still making progress. Don't sweat if we say "approx 50%" and you're only at 30%—the main thing is that you think you’re on-schedule, and that you let us know you’re alive.
You can post at any time during the posting period. We will not choose a date or time for you to post. However, we encourage you to coordinate with your mini bang partner so that you can post on or close to the same day and promote each other’s work.
We'll have a hashtag to use on Twitter and Bsky, and we'll create an Ao3 collection to hold the fics. Authors may wish to embed the artwork into their fics on Ao3 if they can, and artists may wish to link to the fix beneath their tweet with the art.
Please DM a mod or open a ticket ASAP. The main thing is that you need to tell us sooner rather than later. We get it—life happens. Sometimes you lose the will to finish a thing you were excited about. That’s okay, but ghosting at the last minute is not.
The final deadline for drop-outs will be between check-ins 2 and 3. This allows us enough time to find a pinch hitter for your partner. If you miss check-in 1 and check-in 2, you will be considered MIA and removed from the event at the conclusion of check-in 2.
We will attempt to get in contact with you multiple times before this happens! Please don’t let it happen if you can help it!!!
