The goal is to do a reanimated version of the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy Spinoff pilot Underfist (Underfist: Halloween Bash (2008) (4:3) (HBO Max LA Rip)).
What are Reanimated Collabs?
Reanimates are fan-made collaboration projects in which participating animators or artists take individual sequences from a select piece of media (typically a movie or TV episode) and stylistically reinterpret each shot. The end result is an absurdist version of the original product, with every cut changing between various mixed media. Examples may include the following:

Reanimates are a non-profit effort, allowing for creative experimentation, and are a great way to showcase aspiring talent at a fun and lenient pace.
What’s An Underfist?
The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy (2001-2008) is an animated television program produced by Warner Bros. for the Cartoon Network cable channel and created by Maxwell Atoms. The show is about two young children named Billy and Mandy who managed to force the mighty legendary Grim Reaper himself to be their best friend forever, by beating him in a game of Limbo in Limbo to compete for the life of Mr. Snuggles (Billy's ten-year-old hamster). Now that Grim is stuck with the kids as his "forever best friends", his life has been turned upside down. The kids end up having to deal with everyday problems as they go through elementary school as well as combating various grotesque monsters, to beautiful goddesses, to spectral exterminators from within and outside the Underworld.
Most episodes focus on Billy and Mandy either using Grim's various supernatural powers for their personal gain, stealing precious artifacts from his chest or traveling to forbidden planes of existence. Spanning 84 episodes (160 segments) in 6 seasons, the show’s comedy is primarily black/comedy horror with slapstick.
In 2008, a pilot special for a limited spin-off series was planned. It would have focused on the series reoccurring characters forming a superhero team and fighting supernatural enemies. The special did not become a series due to the fact that Cartoon Network's president at the time, Stuart Snyder, chose to focus on new ideas, which included live–action. This move resulted in long-time creators for the network such as Atoms leaving the network.
What to Expect?
Shots range in length from 2 to 5 seconds to about 30 second clips. Before joining this project, please know if you will be able to meet deadlines for progress check-ins. Replying to the official email underfistrebashed@gmail.com/Discord page is mandatory and will help everyone involved stay updated on the status of completion. Leniencies will of course be allowed as the project progresses. However, if we don’t hear any updates on the situation with your shot through your provided contacts and message. We may have no choice, but to offer your shot to another animator/artist.
Portfolio/Demo Reel Submission Guidelines:
- Email your portfolio, demo reel, or links of work to underfistrebashed@gmail.com with “Submission” as the subject or on the discord page. Showcasing your best work is highly recommended! Work with crowds and action is a plus!
- Please mention the name or artist tag you wish to contact as and credited (Twitter / Deviantart / Tumblr link etc.).
- Remember to mention your chosen artistic medium (2D, 3D, stop-motion, etc.)
- Shots will be distributed based on skill level and (if possible) where your preference lies.
- Once I’ve reviewed all the emails, You will be invited to the Discord server.
- You can check the availability of a shot in the #shot availability channel (there will be a link to the original film with shots labeled).
- You will be allowed to animate 1–5 shots if accepted. But I’m willing to negotiate if needed.
Shot Submission Guidelines:
- No NSFW, gore, bad language, discrimination, etc.
Please keep in mind that the show’s content is intended for children.
- Do not re-use or trace over official art (or fan art made by others)
- You do not have to exactly recreate a shot, but please follow the basic context between each before reinterpreting. Ask questions if you have any.
- All artistic mediums are allowed.
- Early communication is key! Our goal is to give everyone as much creative freedom as possible without ruining the flow of the film too much. Just let me know if you want to drastically change your shot from the original.
- No AI GENERATED ART
Final Shot Submission Guidelines:
- Your scene will be due exactly 10 months from the time it was assigned to you (or 10 months per shot if more than 1 is assigned), with up to two extensions of 3 months if needed. Again, negotiations are possible.
- Final shot canvas/project must be exported in 1080p (1920x1080 pixels widescreen),
24 fps, .mov or MP4 (preferred) uncompressed.
- Files must be the same length as the original with no sound and should not contain watermarks. Your watermarked credit’s name will be added to the final edit.
- Name the file: Underfistrebashed_Shot_#??? (Ex. Shot #042)
- Send file to Underfistrebashed@gmail.com, or post in finished shots on Discord when finished.
- Feel free to post on social media with the hashtag #underfistrebashed.
Credits and Optional Art
Each participant will receive a spot in the credits with their preferred name or artist tag. There will also be a full document in the description with extended information on who made each shot and where to find more of their work.
OPTIONAL: You may submit a drawing of a fake episode plot for the credits sequence (first come, first served). Please allow room in the drawing for credited names. See original film credits for examples.
