GOFUND ME TO SUPPORT LEGAL FEES, TRAVEL, ETC.: https://gofund.me/4b1148153

THANK YOU FOR READING THIS AND HELPING US! UPDATE 🚨

Barbara’s husband, Tucker, was able to visit her yesterday in the California ICE detention center. It was the first time they had seen each other since ICE tried to deport her.

We are relieved that she is closer to home, but we have no guarantee that she won’t be moved again. People in detention live in constant fear that, at any moment, armed officers can take them and put them on a plane. Barbara Marques deserves stability and dignity while her legal case moves forward.

Please keep raising your voice for Barbara. The more public attention her case receives, the harder it is for ICE to retaliate against her or move her without need.

👉 ACTION: We’ve updated our call to action to include Governor Newsom whose protection would be huge for Barbara. Continue tagging and emailing the human rights organizations. We’ve updated our ACTION link in bio.

Together, we can protect Barbara and hold ICE accountable.

👉 CALL TO ACTION: Please help us get the attention of human rights and civil liberties organizations. Share Barbara’s story, tag them, email them, and demand they intervene and hold ICE accountable.

EMAIL TEMPLATE TO GAVIN NEWSOM & HUMAN RIGHTS ORGANIZATIONS

Subject: Urgent: Protect Barbara Marques from Further Transfers & Inhumane Treatment

Dear [Organization Name],

I am urgently requesting your advocacy in the case of Barbara Marques, a Brazilian woman currently in ICE custody.

Barbara’s legal case has been reopened, which should protect her from deportation while the court reviews it. However, despite this, ICE has moved her multiple times—subjecting her to fear, instability, and cruel conditions. These repeated transfers are unnecessary, retraumatizing, and place her at constant risk of retaliation.

During her detention, Barbara has endured:

  • Denial of medical equipment needed for her back
  • Being forced to sleep without a bed, using her shoes as a pillow
  • Going over 12 hours without food, water, or hygiene supplies

Barbara is now back in California, where her husband was finally able to visit her for the first time yesterday. While this is a small relief, we are deeply concerned that ICE may transfer her again at any moment. She—and every person in detention—deserves stability, fair treatment, and basic human rights.

We are asking your organization to:

  • Urgently intervene to ensure Barbara is not moved again without clear necessity
  • Call publicly on ICE and DHS to end the pattern of retaliatory transfers
  • Demand access to medical care, food, water, and hygiene for Barbara and all detainees

Continue to investigate and hold accountable the South Louisiana ICE facility, where many others remain in inhumane conditions.

Barbara’s case has shown the power of advocacy and the importance of oversight. But unless immediate action is taken, she remains vulnerable to the very same abuses that nearly led to her deportation.

Thank you for your time and your commitment to protecting human rights.

Sincerely,

[YOURNAME]
