THEME: RESTART. REFRESH. REIGNITE!

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُغَيِّرُ مَا بِقَوْمٍ حَتَّىٰ يُغَيِّرُوا۟ مَا بِأَنفُسِهِمْ

“Indeed, Allah (God) will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves.”
Qur’an 13:11

In today’s fast-paced society, everything around us is constantly evolving, including ourselves. Every day brings new challenges, and these challenges are meant for us to realize our ultimate purpose, which is to please Allah (SWT). Whether we have the happiest of moments or the most tragic of times; whether we live full of glee or go through hardships where we must learn to endure and embrace the pain – one thing always remains. After every experience we face, there is a light at the end of the tunnel – a new beginning, a new start, a new intention.

But this light in the midst of darkness seldom strikes on its own. This fire must first start with a renewed intention and a solid purpose on what we are to change. As Muslims, we pride ourselves on changing every day to establish a better version of ourselves. Many of us spend countless hours discussing how we want a better world but rarely do we turn inwards and begin the change within. These changes, no matter how big or small, must begin within our hearts. And in the darkness, it may seem like everything has ended, the reality is that the spark has just reignited.

For the end is always just the beginning.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

  1. Do I register through my MSA or do I register myself?
  1. Registration is done individually. Some MSAs may have a form that you’re required to fill out so that they can plan lodging & transportation; however, you must still register yourself with us in order to be considered fully registered for Showdown.

  1. I have an exam that weekend so I can’t go. Is it okay if I leave Showdown early or show up later?
  1. Yes, you don’t have to stay for the entire weekend! While we recommend staying for the entirety of Showdown to gain the full experience, we understand that everyone’s circumstances are different. If you need to leave early, let your MSA president/Showdown coordinator know.
  2. If you’re participating in a prejudged competition, such as Short Film, Writing, Written Poetry, etc., and aren’t able to physically attend Showdown, that’s okay! You’ll still need to register in order for your piece to be entered in the competition.

  1. Showdown is expensive for me and I can’t afford to pay the registration fee, but I still want to attend & compete. What are my options?
  1. We can waive the registration fee, depending on your circumstance. Please be advised that this is only on a case-by-case basis. For more information, contact projectalum@msa-texas.org.

  1. My school doesn’t have an MSA but I still want to compete/attend Showdown. Is this possible?
  1. ABSOLUTELY! On the registration form, be sure to specify your school under “Other”.  If your school doesn’t have an MSA and you’d like to compete in something, contact exec@msa-texas.org before March 1, 2022, so that we can accommodate your request(s).

  1. How can my MSA afford hotel & transportation costs for our members?
  1. We recommend asking your university’s student government for funding, doing fundraisers on campus (bake sales, profit shares, etc.), and asking for donations at the masjid. Additionally, LSC does provide MSAs with grant funding, with certain requirements in place.

  1. This is the first time that my members are going to Showdown. Can someone help us keep track of what to do?
  1. Absolutely! We’ll be releasing a checklist for MSA Presidents/Showdown Coordinators to use so that their MSA can stay on top of all the deadlines. This information will be shared through LSC’s Outreach Directors.
  2. We also have multiple Showdown 101 presentations, available for your MSA members and for your officers.

  1. I have a lot of questions about Showdown. Who can I talk to?
  1. Email exec@msa-texas.org or on social media (@msalsc). We’ll also be hosting mandatory information sessions for all schools attending Showdown, so feel free to ask any questions there as well.

  1. I can’t come to Friday of Showdown. Is there a way I can still check-in and attend?
  1. Yes! Check-in is available Saturday morning from 8 AM-12 PM. We do not recommend any competitors who are participating on Saturday morning (i.e. morning sports, Extemporaneous Speaking, Charity Project Pitch, etc.) check-in on Saturday.

  1. What is required for jerseys?
  1. All jerseys must be the same color as their team. Numbers must be printed on the back. Names are not required but are encouraged, if possible. Jerseys do not need to be fancy or expensive; simple jerseys available at Academy or Wal-Mart suffice. Additionally, jersey designs can be handmade, with the numbers printed on the back of each jersey in bold/fabric paint.

More questions will be added!
