The Agora Submission Guidelines

NMSU’s new open-access, faculty-reviewed interdisciplinary journal of undergraduate research and creative activity, The Agora, is now accepting submissions for its premiere edition (spring 2023).

Who can submit to The Agora?

NMSU students of all majors are eligible to submit to the journal. Projects of recent NMSU graduates of 6 months are also welcome.

What is The Agora?

The Agora is a student-edited, non-technical scholarly journal.  It is a joint initiative of the Center for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity (CURCA) and the NMSU Library.

The Agora’s purpose is to provide a public dissemination venue for a broad range of research and creative efforts, to inform others and inspire interest in undergraduate scholarship, and to build connections for student researchers and creators within and beyond our academic community.

The Agora is looking for…

  • Research Papers/Projects (6-16 pages)
  • Research Summaries, Notes, or Reports (2-6 pages)
  • Creative Pieces with an artist's statement
  • Any major project completed in a course*

The Agora Guidelines

  • Maximum 4,000 words or 16 pages double-spaced
  • Creative pieces may range in format, including image, video, etc.
  • If using images, use JPEG or PNG format.
  • If submitting a video, please ensure it is accessible.

  • Must include a Cover Page with the following:
  • Full Name
  • Your Major
  • NMSU Email
  • Name of a faculty mentor or course instructor involved with this project
  • For projects completed without a faculty member, please suggest a faculty member in your field that could help review your work.
  • A note specifying that this work has not been and will not be submitted elsewhere unless these venues specifically allow republication.
  • Copyright in the articles will remain with the authors, and all articles will be published under a Creative Commons license.
  • Work should not be submitted that the author plans to submit for publication elsewhere.  If you are in doubt about where to seek placement for a piece, consult faculty familiar with the project.
  • Submissions should be framed to reach a broad academic audience.

*The Agora is flexible and open to submissions of any kind. If you have something you want to submit but do not see it listed, we are happy to work with you!
