Info for Immigrants
Bay Area Relief Funds & Financial Assistance for Immigrants:
As you may have also heard, the federal stimulus bill that provides direct cash assistance to millions of residents leaves out ITIN holders and undocumented immigrant communities. However - city and community organizations are stepping up as well. Here are some local resources to look into for you and your families, and we encourage you to apply as soon as possible, as many are closing their application forms once they become overwhelmed with responses:
Our amazing partners at Mission Asset Fund have also recently announced a plan to provide direct cash assistance of $500 to immigrants and low income folks left out of the stimulus bill.
National Relief Funds & Financial Assistance for Immigrants:
Here are some other resources available nationwide based on types of work/industry:
- Restaurant Workers Relief Fund - Restaurant Opportunities Centers United. For restaurant workers in need of financial assistance.
- One Fair Wage Emergency Fund. Cash assistance for restaurant workers, car service drivers, delivery workers, personal service workers and more who need the money.
- Another Round, Another Rally Emergency Assistance. For workers in the hospitality industry, dishwasher, bartender, server, busser, chef, cook, sommelier, manager, host, concierge, cleaning staff, or bar back may apply for funds.
- Restaurant Workers’ Community Foundation. For emergency assistance for those employed by restaurants or bars or are employed by a restaurant or bar supplier.
Unemployment Benefits
If you did not already know, unemployment benefits are available to DACA recipients in California that may have been laid off or lost hours due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Nonprofits in the East Bay have put together this great guide to explain eligibility and help folks navigate the unemployment application process.
No Public Charge Impacts
As an important reminder, testing or treatment for COVID19 will not be considered under the new public charge rule, and should not deter anyone from accessing treatment. Also - receiving unemployment benefits is not considered under the public charge assessment is not a negative factor.
DACA UPDATES
As you may have heard, the Supreme Court is expected to rule as early as next Monday on the DACA program. If you or your family members have DACA that expires any time in 2020, we STRONGLY encourage individuals to renew immediately. Please visit our Immigrant Support Hub for a list of nonprofit providers in SF offering free legal assistance with DACA Renewals. You can find other service providers throughout the state and country at Informed Immigrant. USCIS has also recently announced that they will reuse biometrics from previous applications to allow for remote processing of DACA Renewals while their offices are closed.
DACA Fee Assistance
Please also remember that Mission Asset Fund is providing grants to cover half of the renewal application fee costs for folks connected in any way to SF (which would include you all as former fellows). Mission Asset Fund will also provide full DACA scholarships to cover 100% of the application fee for folks who are unemployed or low income.
