Etharus:
Geography:
First major thing of note about Etharus is that the planet is tidally locked around the sun and on a wobble rotation. This means that the south pole is always in sunlight while the north is always in darkness. The line at which the Endless sun and Evernight begins does change with the seasons but not by much.
As for the seasons themselves they move across The planet with the East and West hemispheres being opposite rather than the North and South. As one travels into either of these areas not only is the environment harsh but magic, especially conjuration magic becomes less reliable as well leaving both regions as largely unexplored frontiers even today.
The world of Etta is broken into 3 continents. The Stormlands, a chain archipelago to the far west. Etta, a sprawling land mass that connects all the way to the Evernight and the Endless sun. Lastly the Twinlands, the largest continent consisting of two huge sprawling landmass with a channel of ocean dividing them.
Throughout the world are many ancient wonders of truly epic magic that still stand today. While these wonders have stood for tens of thousands of years the histories behind them have not all endured as strongly.
The Planes:
The elemental and border planes of Etharus operate largely the same way as a typical d&d setting. The outer planes exist as well but are largely altered and more homebrew (same basic principles though)
Etharus itself is very Planer touched, as such there is a much higher than average number of Genasi, Tiefling, and Aasimar than you might expect To see in a normal setting.
The Occurrence:
Some many thousand years ago a great occurrence took place. What exactly it was is unknown, only that it caused a great turmoil of magical feedback and destruction. The main agreement is that the Occurrence acted as a great magical feedback, as such beings with stronger magic and power were greatly affected by it.
Before the Occurrence the Gods and a powerful group of practitioners called the Grem roamed the world able to perform feats of Epic magic. Some of these feats still stand today unable to be replicated.
However since then the Gods no longer take physical avatars and instead can only channel their magic through their followers. The Blood of the Grem can still be found among certain individuals often manifesting in unique ways but who the Grem were or what their ultimate fate was is largely left unknown.
The current date is based on the earliest Elven trance memory after the Occurrence since during the time of the Occurrence all trance memories never took hold. Thus how long the Occurrence even lasted is a mystery as well since for before then the world based their calendar on the current Archdruid of Aluutear. The elves still maintain their memories of the time before the Occurrence but the thousands of years during which the Occurrence took place is largely lost to recorded history.
The Gods:
No one denies the gods exist as their are memories of a time when they walked the world in physical forms. However since the Occurrence they have not been able to communicate directly or take physical forms.
Beings of Power:
There are a select number of beings in various categories that approach godlike levels of power but are very notable, not gods.
The Archfey. There are 6 archfey in Etharus, that most of each rule over a different aspect of natural lands. For the most part if not entering the feywild itself they remain unbothered.
The Genie Lords. Multiple Genine Lords occupied each of the four elemental planes operating as the sort of peaks of elemental power of their respective regions.
Survivors of the Occurrence: there are a handful of powerful beings throughout the world who sensed The Occurrence coming. In order to survive it they purposely broke up their power and very being into items referred to as ‘pieces of power’. They did this to not be as affected by the Occurrence as since their power was dispersed the magical feedback of the occurrence did not fully destroy them. Since then some of these beings have managed to gather their scattered pieces again and reform while others still seek out assistance to aid in restoring them whole once more.
