Church Communication

10/22/24

Hello Christ Community,

We’ve taken another step forward in the process of purchasing a building. At the member’s meeting on 9/25, I announced that we were close to signing an initial “discovery” agreement to have 90 days to investigate whether or not the building at 2302 Fox Drive in Champaign would be a good fit for us. During that 90 day period, we would seek to answer three key questions:

  • Is the building itself a well-built structure worth buying?
  • Can the space be configured for our purposes?
  • How much does it all cost? In other words, is it financially feasible for us?

As of a few days ago, we have begun that 90 day period of discovery. This is a significant step forward- but still just one step in a series of steps. The staff team has already begun to meet with architects, builders and other experts to investigate the building and gather information.

Here’s how you can stay in touch and involved:

  • Stay tuned to the app / email for updates as they come available. Updates could include things like inspection results, financial reports, and any other update on what we learn.
  • Join us for an all-church prayer gathering on Wednesday 11/13 @ 6:00PM. Details are still being ironed out, but tentatively plan on that night to see the building and to pray together.
  • Pray for this process. I can’t help but think of Psalm 127:1 - “Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.” As in everything, God must do this or we labor in vain. Please join us in praying for this.

To that end, here are some ways to pray:

  • Pray for wisdom as a church to make decisions according to His will (Matt 6:10; Isa 46:10)
  • Ask the Lord to provide all that we need (Phil 4:19)
  • Pray that our decisions be driven by the mission God’s given us: to proclaim Christ and make disciples of all nations- starting here in CU (Matt 28:18-20; Acts 1:8)
  • Ask the Lord to give church leadership discernment and courage (Heb 5:14)
  • Pray that we continue to grow as a church in generosity with our time, talent and treasure (2 Cor 8:8-9)

If possible, we’d encourage you to post these requests someplace you’ll see it each day. Our goal is to unite our church in prayer for this moment, to trust God to lead and provide, and especially ask Him to bless our efforts to proclaim Christ and make disciples of all nations- starting right here in CU. If the building serves that end, then we are asking Him to open all the doors for that to happen. If it doesn’t, then we don’t want it.

It’s an exciting time to be part of what God is doing at Christ Community. Thank you for being part of our faith family.
