Under 18 Participation Policy
Hike Society Adelaide Inc.
Overview
Hike Society Adelaide Inc. is a social and hiking group primarily for adults, but we recognise that some members may wish to bring children along to enjoy the outdoors and foster community connection. This policy outlines our position on under 18 attendance and the responsibilities required of guardians.
Eligibility & Conditions
• Only current financial members of Hike Society Adelaide Inc. may bring under 18s to hikes.
• Under 18s must be accompanied at all times by their parent, legal guardian, or a responsible adult who accepts full responsibility for their safety, wellbeing, and conduct during the event.
• Guardians must assess the suitability of the hike for the child’s age, fitness, and temperament before attending.
• Children under 5 years are not covered by Hike Society Adelaide’s insurance policy.
Fees
• A $5 attendance fee applies per under 18 participant (non-member) for each hike attended.
• Children aged under 5 years may attend free of charge.
Conduct and Environment
• Hike Society Adelaide Inc. is a community of adults, and as such, participants may engage in conversations or use language that includes mature themes. While we encourage respectful conduct at all times,the group does not moderate conversations for underage audiences.
• It is the responsibility of the accompanying adult to determine if the group environment is suitable for their child.
• Hike Society Adelaide Inc. does not accept liability for exposure to adult language, humour, or content during events.
Supervision & Responsibility
• The accompanying guardian is solely responsible for the supervision and safety of the child at all times.
• Our hike leaders and volunteers are not responsible for child supervision, medical needs, or managing behavioural issues.
• All minors must remain within close proximity of their guardian and follow group safety instructions and trail etiquette.
• Any concerns regarding the child, or other participants’ interactions with the child, must be raised with the hike leader as soon as possible.
Consent and Acknowledgement
• By attending with an under 18 participant, the guardian acknowledges and accepts all risks and conditions as outlined in this policy.
• Guardians may be asked to sign a waiver or agreement form prior to attendance at the discretion of the committee.
Membership & Eligibility
• Under 18s are not eligible for membership.
• This policy only applies where the attending adult is a paid, current member of the organisation.
Review and Updates
• Any incidents involving an under 18 participant will be raised at the next committee meeting of the club
• This policy will be reviewed annually or upon relevant changes to our insurance, legal obligations, or committee discretion.
