PRE G PROGRESSION SETS

Introduction

This guide will assume you are using Npoints for the decorations, although they are still farmable normally. Remember these are simply examples and you can make your own sets however you’d like. These sets are NOT the most powerful you can make in those ranks but they should be pretty simple and not difficult to make for low rank and high rank. There is a section for every weapon as they may require or benefit from different skills.

As of right now, I am only working on pre G sets. Remember that upgrading armor in Frontier adds extra deco slots and improves/adds skills when going from one tier to the other.

Sword and Shield

Low rank (HR1 & HR2)

Low rank is honestly pretty easy, and you should have no trouble if you upgrade Kukubo. It’s an event armor, to get it go into Other quests > Gear acquisition quests > Newbie armor craft [Kukubo]. Not really a lot for decos here so you can just stack some attack, not required to go through low rank really.

High rank (HR3 & HR4)

Not much different here except for Gogomoa F. Considering this has evasion and a decent amount of         offense it should get you through high rank without much issue and into HR5 set grinding just fine. Even comes with an empty deco slot. As for attack 3 decos, go into Other quests > Gear acquisition quests > Attack 3 deco * Recommendation, or get it with Npoints. If you don’t want to farm Attack 3 decos, Gallery atk decos in gear acquisition are ok too.

Adept/Elite rank (HR5 & HR6)

Survivability G and Narga might seem redundant but Narga will let you get Evasion +2 from the get go and it has +5 Artisan which is very good. Getting focus is extremely complicated and needs a more convoluted set so it’s not worth it unless you have a lot of time to spare. If you really want to, you can get it in h4 with a mix of Beru > Dora armor, Rukodiora F and Guren F.

Adept/Elite rank (HR5 & HR6)

Longsword

Hunting Horn

Low rank (HR1 & HR2)

You could get Flute Expert for 1.5x song duration but it’s a bit of a bother in this rank.

Also, for Hunting Horn you might want to look for one that has one deco slot so you can slot in one “Flute G” deco in order to get Flute Expert. Otherwise just take something off. Helm is from Doragyurosu.

Lance

Low rank (HR1 & HR2)

You should be able to buy Battle armor at the workshop but even if you can’t it’s pretty easy to craft. If you want to, you can make this first then make the Kushala set below for Low rank. Sharpening and wind pressure decos are just there because why not.

Nothing much to say, full Kushala is extremely good for Lance and Gunlance. Takes a bit more effort than the other sets though.

High rank (HR3 & HR4)

Still running Kushala, this time Kushala F for more defense,, easily gets you into HR5 set farming. As for Attack 3 decos, go into Other quests > Gear acquisition quests > Attack 3 deco * Recommendation, or get it with Npoints.

Adept/Elite rank (HR5 & HR6)

This build has 3 empty deco slots so just fill it depending on the matchup.

Funny Voljang build. Go read up on Obscurity and you’ll understand how ridiculously broken it is. Being confined to Voljang armor makes it a bit harder to build but it more than makes up for having Obscurity. This build has an empty deco slot so if you have 1 deco slot on your weapon you can slot in 2 Survivability G decos for Evasion +2 and True Guts. This is easily the better build.

Gunlance

Low rank (HR1 & HR2)

You should be able to buy Battle armor at the workshop but even if you can’t it’s pretty easy to craft. If you want to, you can make this first then make the Kushala set below for Low rank. Sharpening and wind pressure decos are just there because why not.

Nothing much to say, full Kushala is extremely good for Lance and Gunlance. Takes a bit more effort than the other sets though.

High rank (HR3 & HR4)

Shelling is actually very strong at this stage, (fun fact it scales with raw) so if you want to shell pay attention to the weapon’s raw and  the following:

Long Gunlance for Wyvern Fire spam.

Wide Gunlance for general shelling.

Normal Gunlance for full burst spam.

Funny Voljang build. Because shelling scaling with raw only works based on your “town” raw (Weapon + sigils + SR) obscurity does not do anything for a shelling playstyle. It’s better if you want to use gunlance strictly for poking n shit though, since obscurity gives a ludicrous amount of attack.

Light Bowgun

Low rank (HR1 & HR2)

Low rank is honestly pretty easy, and you should have no trouble if you upgrade armor. Good Light Bowguns (courtesy of Brent) would be:

Plesioth - Lobster Gun

Azure Rathalos - Spartacus Soul

Pink Rathian - Valkyrie Heart

High rank (HR3 & HR4)

Same thing except you can now use attack 3 decos. To get them, go into Other quests > Gear acquisition quests > Attack 3 deco * Recommendation, or get it with Npoints.

Bow

Low rank (HR1 & HR2)

Kukubo is an event armor, to get it go into Other quests > Gear acquisition quests > Newbie armor craft [Kukubo]. As for Kut-Ku U vest, you want to make a normal vest and upgrade it until it lets you upgrade into the U form. You can buy an Iron Belt at the workshop.

High rank (HR3 & HR4)

Can get Auto-Reload now, S and U armor follows the same principle of upgrading the original armor until you get the option to branch out.

As for Attack 3 decos, go into Other quests > Gear acquisition quests > Attack 3 deco * Recommendation, or get it with Npoints.

Very important here is that depending on the number of weapon slots you can gem in some more attack and expert. As for weapon choices, what i was recommended by Brent and Poke are the following:

Rathalos bow - Prominence Bow

Nono/Kamu (Orugarons) bow - Fanged Wolf Gun

Taikun Zamuza bow - Taikun Bow

Yama bow - Steel Bow

Adept/Elite rank (HR5 & HR6)

Also, don’t be afraid to upgrade armor into Heavenly Storm or even Supremacy! The skill tax for Bow is huge so i couldn’t really fit status res or guts in this set. It should be very powerful once complete though.

Notes (read before asking)

I’ve decided to keep the Nargacuga chestplate regardless of whether or not i get Evasion from other sources purely because it lets you immediately get Evasion +2 when you craft it so you don’t have to go around waiting for the decos to be able to get evasion, as well as it being easy to build for because of the artisan +5.

Survivability G is a very strong deco that I have included because Guts in Frontier can be activated as many times as you want as long as you meet the requirements.  If you think you don’t need Guts feel free to remove those decos and use something else.

All these builds assume you have 0 deco slots on your weapon. If you have more, great, feel free to add whatever you wish!

The helmet for the HR5 builds in Japanese is Doragyurosu.
