Random Acts of Carbs: a game of serendipity, whimsy, and delicious sweets in lower Manhattan

Instructions

You’ll need a D6 die (or go to google to roll a D6), a sense of whimsy, and an empty stomach ready to be filled with delicious carbs. You’ll need a couple hours and will be walking approximately 2 miles across lower Manhattan. Carbs range from $1.50 to $10+ each, and some locations may only take cash (bring a $20 bill and you should be fine cash-wise). Depending on your rolls and whether you go back for seconds at any of the carb stops, it may cost up to $40 for your Random Acts of Carbs. Some carb stops close at obnoxiously early times, so we suggest you start your adventure before 2pm.

(optional: when playing with a group of people, you can all do the same thing, or you can each roll a die and do different things while going to the same carb stop)

Start at Washington Square Park. Roll one D6 die:

  1. Buy something from a street vendor
  2. Act like a kid: skip, cartwheel, and play without caring about what anyone thinks for at least 15 minutes
  3. Do something nice for a stranger
  4. Find a fluffy puppy to pet and ask its owner for permission to pet it
  5. Jump into the fountain. Yes, you must do it.
  6. When walking to your next carb stop, you must walk sideways and pinch your hands like a crab

Go towards your next carb stop

Roll a D6 die and:

  1. Get a hot chocolate at LA Burdick.
  2. Get a naughty waffle at Sugar Wood
  3. Get a chocolate chip cookie from Vesuvio
  4. Get a chocolate mouse from LA Burdick
  5. Get some green tea icecream at Matchaful
  6. Get a cronut from Domique Ansel

(optional: roll a second D6 die and get a second carb. I highly recommend the hot chocolate at LA Burdick)

Walk east and roll a D6 die:

  1. You must sing a song on your walk to your next stop
  2. You must skip during this walk to your next stop
  3. You must try to high five every person you encounter on your walk to the next stop
  4. You must walk like a zombie to your next stop, bonus points if you mumble “BRAINZ!”
  5. You must pick any flowers you see along your way and hand them out to strangers you encounter to your next stop
  6. You must waddle like a duck, and if people look at you funny, you must quack at them, on your walk to the next stop

Your next carb stop is (roll a D6):

  1. Get a tasty pastry at Supermoon Bakehouse
  2. Get some rice pudding at Rice to Riches
  3. Get a cheesecake from Eileen’s Special Cheesecake
  4. Get a bubble tea from Boba Guys
  5. Get some chocolates from Roni-Sue’s Chocolates
  6. Get a slice of pie from Petee’s Pie Company

Your next walk is in a south east manner. Roll a D6 die:

  1. Flap your wings and fly like a bird to your next stop
  2. Do the can-can on your walk to your next stop
  3. Make silly faces to everyone who makes eye contact with you on your walk to the next stop
  4. Dance to some music while walking to your next stop
  5. Don’t step on any cracks in the sidewalk on your walk to the next stop
  6. On your walk to the next stop, take ten steps with high knees, then take ten steps with butt kicks, and repeat

Your last destination is (roll at D6):

  1. Get a portugese egg tart at Tai Pan
  2. Get some spongies at Kam Hing Coffe Shop
  3. Get an interesting bun at Fay Da Bakery
  4. Get a fluffy cheesecake from Keki Modern Cakes
  5. Stand in line for icecream at the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory
  6. Get some bubble waffles from the Xiang Minicake cart

And your stroll of serendipity, whimsy, and carbs is complete. congrats!
