Mahavir Jaynti 2012 Celebration
JSCNC will celebrate Mahavir Jayanti on Sat April 21. This year's celebrations will take place in Hindu Bhavan Cultural Hall to better accommodate our growing needs. We are also switching to an afternoon format followed by Swamivatsalya (Dinner). There is mandatory dress rehearsal for all cultural program participants on Fri Apr 13. Stay tuned for additional announcements as we firm up the schedule.
Mahavir Jayanti is one of the largest events sponsored by JSCNC, is open to everyone and demonstrates the unity and generosity of JAIN community. The Executive committee puts in a lot of planning in place but your support - financial and volunteer - makes this program a huge success. Our total budget this year is much larger. We are expecting 15-25% more attendees compared to last year and we can use all the help we can get. You can sponsor specific item fully or partially. Some of the commonly sponsored items are: Swamivatsalya (Dinner), Goody bags for children, Pizza on the day of dress rehearsal, Props for children. If you would like to contribute, please register your pledge with Kamlesh Shah or Anand Shah. Also, if you are interested in volunteering please contact Kamlesh Shah and Anand Shah.
Weekly Mahavi Puja
We are requesting additional volunteers to perform Mahavir Puja every Saturday in the Hindu Temple. The Puja is very simple and takes less than one hour. This is a great way to teach children, especially young children to prepare them with this ritual. This is a great opportunity for children to learn so they are confident to perform a puja when we visit pilgrimages in India. If we can find at least 6 families, each family will get their turn ONCE every six weeks. Children will learn how to do the kesar pooja and all aspects of Asht prakari Pooja. Mrs. Rekha Banker who coordinates weekly puja will be happy to demonstrate in person and has several books with illustrations to help. If you are interested, please drop her a note.
Mr. Ajay Shah (our food Coordinator) is in need for four host families. This is a great way to show your support if you are unable to cook for monthly meeting. The responsibilities include paying for paper products ($35), bring napkins, spoons, pickle (Athanu) , Mukhvas, Manage kitchen, make tea/cofee, clean kitchen (there are additional volunteers for cleaning up. You as the host is responsible for making sure it gets done). If you are interested, please drop him a note.
3. Upcoming Activities
Ths JSCNC 2012 calendar is online. Please visit http://www.jscnc.org and click Events. The calendar has the most up-to-date listing of all confirmed activities for the year. With the help of Mrs. Jyoti Kirit Shah, all the tithis (Lunar Days) are also posted on the online calendar.
JSCNC Pathshala serves our young kids to instill spiritual development, self-awareness and promote Jain identity in individuals, based on the principles of Jainism. The teachers pay special attention to the needs of young and older groups and have structured curriculum as such.
The Paathshala classes take place every first Sunday of the month from 12:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. in the Hindu Temple Cultural Hall AND on 3rd Sundays during the monthly meeting. If you plan to attend and/or need more information, please call Mrs. Rita Lodaya or Mrs. Sejal Shah. Paathshala e-mail address is JSCNCpathshala@yahoo.com.
I wanted to remind everyone that children's safety is our utmost concern. Our pathshala attendance continues to grow. All pathshala classes are held on safe premises of Hindu Center, however there is considerable traffic in the parking lot. To help pathshala teachers maintain order and keep everyone safe, we are asking all the parents to sign in and sign out their kids - irrespective of the age of their child - during the 1st Sunday pathshala. We request very basic information (Who, When and emergeny contact). We will use this process for all future youth activities. The goal of this process is to balance convenience and children’s safety.
Pathshala Bowling Event
On Jan 29th, a fun event was organized for all Pathshala kids. Both Mahavir and Vardhman group went to AMF lanes in Cary for a fun packed afternoon of bowling. Many thanks to Mihir Shah and Sohil Shah for putting together this event. Thanks also to the parent volunteers who stayed and helped the children.
