The children will learn about some symbols that are important to the United States. 

 The children will answer questions related to the lesson.

  1. Have the children name their states and the capital city.
  2. Have the children find United States and the capitol of the United States in a map.
  3. Display pictures of the White House and and identify the home of the President.
  4.  Have the children look at symbols and identify them as symbols of the United States.
  5. Help the children identify the symbols.
  6. Have volunteers to speculate as why each item is important to the Unites States.
  7. Discuss why these symbols are so important.
  8. Have the children other symbols they may know about.

  1.  The teacher will read aloud “The First Americans.”Identify North America, home to the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
