Editor’s Corner

Jai Jinendra,

The most difficult phase of life is not when no one understands you; it is when you don't understand yourself." - Swami Shrutpragyaji. We were fortunate to have Swamiji at the annual camp. Swamiji’s articulate style and ability to demonstrate a concept by example makes it very easy for you to understand whether you are 8 years old or 80 years old. Be sure to read Camp Lalit 2011 - Reflections section for a complete report of Camp and pictures.

Camp Lalit 2011 - Reflections

This year’s Guest Scholar at the camp was Honorable Shri Shrutpragya Swami Ji. Sessions with Swamiji were well received by everyone - whether it was a discourse or Yoga or meditation. Swamiji conducted a special session with children without the presence of adults to ensure that children get maximum benefit. The two larger discourse sessions for adults had an excellent and thought provoking theme of “Who will determine your destiny?”. For more information on Swamiji’s institution, please visit: http://www.pomyc.org/

This year’s camp was another huge success thanks to excellent planning by Kamlesh Shah and the entire team of volunteers. From the initial preparation till the final wrap-up this was a display of excellent teamwork thanks to the meticulous planning and attention to details. On behalf of the entire committee, I would like to extend sincere appreciation to Mr. Kamlesh Shah and the entire team. In addition, special thanks to Mr. Ramnik and Mrs. Lata Zota and Mr. Kirit and Mrs. Jyoti Shah for hosting Swami Shrutpragyaji. Special thanks also goes to Ajay Shah for overall food arrangements and Mayur Mehta for preparing the most delicious pancakes on Sunday morning.

The special showcase on Sat evening was a Kids Talent Show organized by our pathshala teachers. There was an amazing display of talent by our young JAINS - playing musical instruments, telling jokes/riddles, singing, dancing, even Gujarati Rap! Thanks to Rita Lodaya and Sejal Shah for organizing these activities. Saturday night ended with endless jokes, riddles and games.

Adopt a Highway Cleanup (Fall)

Our center participates in Adopt-A-Highway cleanup twice a year. The statewide Adopt-A-Highway program was established in 1988 and is a joint effort between community volunteers and NC Department of Transportation to keep our roads clean. JSCNC adopted a stretch of Highway 54 in Cary between Morrisville Parkway and Airport Boulevard. This stretch was named in honor of Mr. Lalit Banker.

On Oct 9th, an enthusiastic group of volunteers woke up early to lend a hand for a good cause. A big task such as this was completed in no time.

Consider volunteering your time during the next cleanup. It’s a great community service and good exercise in the morning. Thank you Pritesh Shah and all the volunteers for making this year’s Fall cleanup a big success.

Committee for 2012

Please consider offering your services and giving back to the community. If you are interested in serving in the Committee next year, please forward your name Mr. Pravin Shah or Mrs. Rekha Banker.

3. Upcoming Activities

4. Paathshala Corner

JSCNC Pathshala serves our young kids to instill spiritual development, self-awareness and promote Jain identity in individuals, based on the principles of Jainism. The teachers pay special attention to the needs of young and older groups and have structured curriculum as such.

The Paathshala classes take place every first Sunday of the month from 12:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. in the Hindu Temple Cultural Hall AND on 3rd Sundays during the monthly meeting. If you plan to attend and/or need more information, please call Mrs. Rita Lodaya or Mrs. Sejal Shah. Paathshala e-mail address is JSCNCpathshala@yahoo.com.

We would like to commend all the kids who actively participated in the celebration of Paryushan this year:

We would also like to thank Jyotiben Kirit Shah for hosting a special Samayik for children who enjoyed listening to her interactive narration of Mahavir Swami’s previous lives.
