concentrated HCl

concentrated unknown

glass tube

Calculated the molar mass of each.

HCl -                                                         Unknown- (do this later)

Directions

1.  Take two Q-tips, and dip one in HCl, and the other in Unknown

2.  Place the two Q-tips into each end of the glass tube at the same exact time.

3.  Start the watch at this time.

4.  Keep an eye out for a thin white dust/powder to form where the two gasses meet.

5.  At the moment you see this powder form it means that reaction has taken place and you need to stop the watch.

6.  Measure how far each gas moved to get to the reaction spot.

7.  Calculate the speed of each gas using  speed = distance/time     units should be -  cm/s

8.  Do a second trial with a new set of q-tips and glass tube.
