Heather’s Chili Con Carne

1 lb. ground beef

1 c. chopped onion

¾ cup green pepper, chopped

1 clove garlic, minced

1 (16 oz.) can petit diced tomatoes

1 (16 oz.) can pinto beans

1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce

2 teaspoons chili powder

⅓ teaspoon crushed basil


Brown ground beef and onions in a large skillet. (Heather always leaves her browned ground beef a bit chunky instead of chopping it into tiny pieces, so the chili has lots of tasty chunks!) Add green pepper and garlic and saute until soft. Pour in tomatoes, beans, tomato sauce, and seasonings. Simmer for 20-30 minutes and serve. This recipe works great in a slow cooker as well -- simply add browned ground beef & remaining ingredients and cook on low for 4-6 hours.
