Baby Mittens
Materials:
0-3 mos.: size 4 knitting needles
(3-6 mos.): size 5 knitting needles
Size F crochet hook.
Any light worsted weight yarn such as: Patons “Asta”, Bernat “Handicrafter”, or
Patons “Grace” (use 2 strands of “Grace”)
Cotton yarn is best because babies like to put their fists in their mouth!
Cast on 24 stitches. Work 4 (6) rows of K1, P1 ribbing.
Next row: Purl, increasing one stitch in first and last stitch of the row.
Eyelets:
Row 1: K1, (K2tog, YO, K1) repeat to end of row, K1.
Row 2: Purl
Hand:
Work in stockinette stitch for 14 (16) rows, beginning with a knit row and ending with a purl row.
Top Shaping:
Row 1: K1, K2tog, K8, K2tog, K1, K2tog, K8, K2tog
Row 2: Purl
Row 3: K1, K2tog, K6, K2tog, K1, K2tog, K6, K2tog
Row 4: Purl
Row 5: K2tog, K4, K2tog, K1, K2tog, K4, K2tog
Row 6: Purl
Finishing method #1: Divide remaining stitches evenly onto 2 double-point needles and weave together using Kitchener stitch, stitch down side seam. Weave ends in.
Finishing method #2: Cut a 12” tail of yearn. Weave through remaining stitches and pull together tightly. Stitch down side seam. Weave ends in.
With size F crochet hook, chain 60 stitches. Tie off and weave through the eyelets.
