Global Android Dev Camp - What, when, where & who?

The Global Android Dev Camp takes place from February 17th to 19th, 2012. Android developers from all over the world come together at more than 30 locations and hack for 48 hours - nonstop! Globally, about 1,000 developers are expected - from Brussels and Berlin, to Warsaw and London, to Brazzaville, Kyoto and San Diego.

There are no restrictions whatsoever, apart from the focus on Android. No matter whether the participants are working on individual projects or in a team; whether the project teams are collaborating at one location or are creating virtual project teams of various regions and nations; whether they keep on hacking for 48 hours steady or take half a day off.

The participants share their intermediate results and experiences via G+ hangouts (video chats), conference calls, or shared documents to mark their progress, support each other and hopefully share the fun they’re having.

At the end of the hackathon the participants present their projects and the audience choses a winning project. After the event, the results of the hackathon as well as photos and videos will be made available to all participants and everyone else interested.

The Brussels event

The Brussels event takes place at the Outpost in Brussels, Rue de la Tribune 8, 1000 Brussel, tel: 02 2180400. From Saturday morning to Sunday evening, the attending developers are expected to rock around-the-clock.

The Brussels hackathon offers room for a maximum of 30 developers. Participation might pay a small fee depending on number of sponsors. Whoever wants to join can register online. There are no specific participation criteria, but we’ll try to arrange a nice mix of experienced developers and “newbies”.

For sharing with other participants, there are smaller mentoring speeches or spontaneous hangouts. Basically, however, the following applies: hacking mode has priority! We will ensure an atmosphere where people can fully concentrate on their work.

To be able to provide all developers with a ration of food and drinks we need your support!

What's behind it? - Why?

The goal of the global hackathon is to bring together Android communities spread around the world.

The global hackathon offers them the opportunity to share knowledge and experiences; to jointly test and evolve existing products and solutions; and to create completely new applications, tools, etc.

And, last but not least, it is also simply about having loads of fun among like-minded people.
