Weighting Grades for a Course

In this document you will learn about:

Weighting Grades by Column

Weighting Grades by Category

Blackboard enables instructors to designate a weight for each Grade Center item to determine the final grade. Grade Center weights may be adjusted either by category or item. With Weight by Category, items are weighted by the category to which they are assigned. For example, all Assignments will carry the same weight and all Exams will carry the same weight

  1. Weighting by category provides additional options for how to calculate the weighted percent of all the items in that category.

  1. Weight Columns equally means each item in the category will carry the same weight regardless of point value. Weighting proportionally means that items that are worth more points will be weighted more heavily within the category.
  2. Drop Grades allows you to drop a specified number of the lowest or highest grades within that category.
  3. Alternatively, you can choose to use only the highest or lowest score within the category to calculate the weighted value of the category.
