Week 8: Google Docs
Google documents is basically Microsoft® Office on the web. It allows to you both create documents (drawings, presentations, word files, PDF’s, etc.) and share them with others for editing or viewing.
The great thing about Google Docs, is that instead of having to send documents as attachments in an email, they can be set up on Google Docs and the people can come to the document. This means no more searching in your past emails for that attachment or wondering what version of the draft is the newest.
I can see Google Docs being invaluable in group projects! What an amazingly easy way to collaborate, edit and organize a document! I’m definitely going to be using this in my own graduate work. My committee is made up of 5 people, and my head was already spinning wondering how I would be able to keep track of all of the different edits, revisions, suggestions and comments. My solution- Google Docs! Thank you Web 2.0 session! :D
So my main point with Google Docs is this: It is a great tool to use for collaboration! It cuts down on the hassles of emails and stores you document on a secure site, so it will be there even if your computer quits on you! There are endless applications for students to use this tool, whether its for group work, file sharing or even handing in their assignments to me.
