Did you know math is about patterns and used each day in your life? Come join Mrs. Beile and learn how to take the scary out of math and walk away with a math reference tool that students build each week with Mrs. Beile called Five Is Your Brain Alive. Key concepts will be covered for grades 4/5 such as multiplication, division, fractions, decimals and percents. No textbook is needed for this course. Students will need a notebook with graph paper to create a math reference guide. Students need to be confident with multiplication tables to 10’s. Class runs September 13, 2011-January 10, 2012
(50 EUs)

CANCELLED Math        Grades 6-7        Taught by Laura Beile        lbeile@juliancharterschool.org

Join Mrs. Beile to take the scariness out of math and help build basic math skills to prepare for Pre-Algebra. Key concepts will be covered each week. No textbook is needed for this course. Students will need a notebook with graph paper to create a math reference guide. Students need to be confident with multiplication tables to 10’s. (Student’s will need to take a math assessment to verify areas of need to work on). Class runs September 13, 2011-January 10, 2012 (50 EUs)

Science

CANCELLED Physical Science 8: Matter & Motion (Core Class)        Grade  8        Taught by Pam Goalwin                pgoalwin@juliancharterschool.org

Did you ever wonder what everything around us is made of? Why are some liquids good for our bodies (like water) but others are poisonous? Why do some elements glow at night? These topics and many more are studied in eighth grade physical science. This class is designed to assist students and parents with challenging topics in science using online discussion, exciting labs, computer simulations and fun projects. This CORE class covers all the 8th grade physical science standards. Two hours of online instruction each week are included:  one will focus on science, the other on technology.

Class runs August 29, 2011-January 11, 2012. (50 EUs)

Discovery Science        Grades 4-7        Taught by Pam Goalwin                pgoalwin@juliancharterschool.org

Space . . . . the next frontier! Will we ever be able to live for long periods of time outside of Earth? What would it be like to live in space? Join students from around Southern California as we explore concepts in space science. We will be covering important concepts in life, physical and earth science as we progress. This class includes two hours of online class time:  one focusing on space, the other on technology tools. Class runs August 29, 2011-January 11, 2012. (50 EUs)
