The DC Capitals have lost only one game in the year 2011, and it came all the way back on January 9th. However, you can make the assumption that DC’s schedule has been less than impressive as its strength of schedule is ranked 51st. But, the Capitals have captured the NAPHL Playoffs Championship and won the AYHL regular season title this year. DC had a good performance at the Southeastern District Championships by taking down TPH Thunder twice, and the Carolina Jr. Hurricanes. On the other side, Greater Boston Jr. Bruins haven’t played since November 14th, when they clinched the Massachusetts state championship. The Jr. Bruins do have a win against the Mid-Fairfield Blues in their 16-3-3 record, which is another Nationals participant.

The game started off with a goal only about three minutes in by DC’s Robinson. Then, Sam Anas’ goal for the Capitals stretched the lead to two, and his teammate Raskin scored a goal less then three minutes later on the powerplay to make the lead 3-0. However, in the second period the Junior Bruins stormed back with two goals from Hehir and Cashman to cut the lead to one. But, DC responded with a quick goal in the early part of the third period by defenseman Michael Chen and held off Boston for the rest of the third period to solidify a victory in the opening round game at Nationals.

Next up, DC Capitals plays the host team the Connecticut Wolfpack and looks to extend their winning streak to 23, while the Greater Boston Jr. Bruins will take on the Pacific champion, California Stars.
