SPEARFISH - Twyla V. Jorgensen, 92, Spearfish, SD, died Thursday, May 29, 2003, at her home in Spearfish. A private graveside service was held at Rose Hill Cemetery on May 31, 2003.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2003, at 4 p.m. at the Jorgensen Barn on Stage Barn Circle in Spearfish. Everyone is welcome to help celebrate her life and participate in the service. Twyla lived every day to the fullest.

Twyla Vivian Richter was born to Henry and Lena Richter on April 16, 1911, on their farm north of Burke, SD. In 1923 they moved to a farm near Mosher, SD. She helped with all the farm work, including milking 21 cows. Twyla attended school through the 9th grade at Carter, SD.

Twyla met her future partner for life over the Drug Store counter soda fountain in Witten, SD, where she served Arnold the best chocolate malt ever made. Twyla married Arnold Jorgensen in Denver, CO, on January 31, 1935. They traveled to South Dakota, back to Colorado, to Texas, California and back to South Dakota, where they established a 47-year residence in Witten, SD. In 1983 they moved to Spearfish, SD, but continued to keep their home in Witten. Arnold passed away in 1985.

Twyla, always with that beautiful smile, helped with the horse trading and grocery store business. She was well known for the cup of coffee to always be on. For her favorite man Arnold and guests, a delicious chocolate cake or apple pie. Upon Twyla's arrival in Spearfish and the opening of McDonald's, she walked to McDonald's every day for a delicious cup of coffee. She has been honored 3 times on the McDonald's Marquee.

Twyla was the most dedicated wife, mother and grandma anyone could ever have. She is survived by one daughter, Kay S. Jorgensen of Spearfish, SD; two sons, Spike Cy Jorgensen and his wife Pearl of Tok, Alaska, Joe B. Jorgensen of Spearfish, SD; and four grandchildren, Bronk and Thor Jorgensen of Tok, Alaska, Merideth and Christopher Pangburn of Spearfish, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 50 years, five sisters and five brothers.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to Lookout Memorial Hospice as well as other special funds.
