The children will learn to explore all five senses

What sense did you use in with gingerbread cookie? 

  1. The teacher will read aloud “The Gingerbread Boy.”
  2. The teacher will ask: Why did the Gingerbread Boy ran out of the oven? Why was the town running after the Gingerbread Boy? What happened  when he ran into the water?
  3. Have the children observe what will happen to a gingerbread cookie when placed in water.
  4. Ask: How did the gingerbread cookie felt before we put it in the water? How did it feel when placed in water? Do you think the Gingerbread Boy will ever be the same?
  5. Give each child a gingerbread cookie.
  6. Have the children touch, look, taste, smell, hear.
  7. Using a crayola the children will record their response in their chart.
  8. Using their chart have the children find out which sense they did not use.

  2. What happens when you put a gingerbread cookie in water?
  3. How did our senses helps in this activity?

  The children will learn how animals and people use their senses to explore the world.

What sense organ do we use for _______?

  1. The teacher will discuss how senses collect information from outside the body, and then to the brain, and is interpret each message, making us aware of the sound, sight, smell, taste, or touch that we are experiencing.
  2. Distribute activity p. 45.
  3. Review sense organs with the children.
  4. Have the children tell what the part is and what is it use for, then glue the corresponding body part to the animal.
  5. Have the children answer: What sense organ is that? What is it use for? What would happen if the animal was missing that sense organ?
