  1. ALA/NYLA Business
  1. You must be a member of ALA to participate in/join UB ALA.
  2. This joint student membership for ALA/NYLA is only $35. Download the membership form at: http://www.nyla.org/index.php?page_id=89
  3. Remember to pay your membership dues if you are already a member.
  1.  If you have problems with renewing your dues remember that you can call for help. The number is listed on their site (http://www.nyla.org/index.php?page_id=12)

  2. Tote Bags= $90.00
  3. Total Monies in the Account= $485.31
  4. We only have four tote bags left.

     b.    Advocacy and Outreach of the past two weeks - the Chris Collins Budget cuts ($4 million being cut)

 .                            i.    Rally Reports

  1. UB ALA had a strong presence, Brenda and other librarians from all types of libraries were there, around 100 attendees, there were speeches and lots of news coverage.

                              ii.    Legislature Meeting Reports

  1. Ryan and Becca were able to speak on behalf of the UB LIS student population, there was a large presence of art and librarian supporters, people had been signing up to speak since 9 a.m., there was a lot of news coverage.

                              iii.    What you can still do

  1. If you haven’t yet please sign your name to the petition (http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/savebecpl/)

                 c.    Meet a Librarian Day

 .                             i.    December 4 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

                               ii.   Terry McCormack from the Koren Center will be representing UB ALA

                               iii.  We might also ask Cindy and David Bertuca to represent UB ALA.

                 d.     Wine, Networking, Cheese, and Professional Development Soiree!

 .                            i.    December 11 at 7p.m. at Liz’s house. Directions will be sent out at a later date.

                              ii.   Nicole will be in charge of collecting R.S.V.P.s

                 e.     Elections for the Spring semester

 .                            i.   Nicole expressed interest for the President spot.

                              ii.   It is laid back and diplomatic. We nominate people and then vote.

                 f.      ALA Student-to-Staff, ALA 2011

 .                           i.    The selection happens in the spring.

                             ii.    If chosen you would work at ALA and you would have your room and board covered as well as the conference fees covered. You would be responsible for getting yourself down to New Orleans.

                            iii.    You must be a current student of the LIS department (meaning you must still be a student during the summer of 2011).

                           iv.    More details will come during the spring semester.

                 g.   New UB ALA swag!

 .                         i.  Ideas: bumper stickers, lanyards, buttons, water bottles (Cafe Press)

  1. We will vote at the next meeting to determine what we want to create.
