_____ 2. Check with your distance learning advisor (DLA) for any school guidelines that you must follow while taking your NCVPS course.

_____ 3. Be sure that your distance learning advisor has given you your username and password for your NCVPS course.  NCVPS does NOT send usernames and passwords to students. You will not have access to your course until the first day of class. Before then, you should go through the NCVPS orientation.  (See below.)

NOTE:  Confirm with your advisor that you are enrolled in the course and not waitlisted.  If you are waitlisted, you may get into the course if new sections are opened OR if other students enrolled in the course withdraw from the course.  No students will move off the waitlist after the 5th day of a course.

NOTE:  Students enrolled in German courses through Oklahoma State University or AP Micro/Macro  through Florida Virtual will receive their usernames and passwords in an email from OSU or FLVS.  They will use the student email address in the registration system.  Be sure your DLA has your correct email address in the registration system.

_____ 4. Go through the Student Online Orientation. Follow this link to the orientation:

http://ncvps.blackboard.com/webapps/login/

Do not log in.  Your username and password will not work until the first day of class.  To enter the Student Services Orientation and to view Demo courses, click the “Preview” button on this page:  http://ncvps.blackboard.com/webapps/login/

Click on the Student Support Services Orientation. (See below.)

**NOTE:  Having access to the orientation does not mean that you are enrolled in a course.  The orientation is not your course.  Check with your distance learning advisor to see if you are properly enrolled.

_____  5.  Make sure you have the textbook and materials for your course.  Ask your DLA what textbooks and materials you need.  Not all courses need a text or materials.  Do this before class begins.  Here is a link to view textbooks and materials for Fall 2010 courses:

On the First Day of Class (Early Calendar: August 5, Traditional: August 25)

_____ 1.  Log in to your course.  Begin by logging into to Blackboard here: http://ncvps.blackboard.com/webapps/login/

Then look under “My Courses” on the right of the screen and click on you course that you are enrolled in.  You will see all of the courses that you are enrolled in under “My Courses.”

NOTE:  If you know that you are enrolled in a course, you may try logging in before the first day of class.  NCVPS often opens courses early for students to check out the course.  You will not be able to work on any assignments until the first day of the course, though.  Waitlisted students will not have this access.

NOTE:  If you enroll after classes begin, it may take 24 to 48 hours before you get access to your course.

_____ 2. Read the first announcement posted by the instructor.

_____ 3. Take time to familiarize yourself with the course.  Go through all the buttons on the left navigation bar.

_____  4.  Communicate with your teacher via email or telephone call.  Use the email messaging system within Blackboard.  In your Blackboard course, click on the Communication button and then choose either Messages or Send Email to contact your instructor.

You can also use your personal email to contact your instructor.  You will find your instructor’s contact information under the “Staff Information” tab in your course.  Build a communication relationship with both your instructor and DLA.

_____ 5. Begin working on your first unit!  You must begin working right away.  NCVPS will administratively drop on Day 3 of the course any student who does not log in and submit his or her first assignment.

_____ 6. Know the Blackboard help desk number: 1-866-223-1028.  This help desk can help you with Blackboard issues only, including resetting your password.

**Note:  Block courses will require approximately 90 minutes of work a day, Monday through Friday.  Yearlong courses require about 50 minutes of work a day.  You will have access 24/7, but beware of your due dates!  You must log at least every week day to be successful in your course.

Tenth Day of Class  (Early Calendar: August 18, Traditional: September 8)

_____ 1.  This is the last day that you can drop a course.  You must be dropped by your DLA.  An instructor cannot drop you from the course.  Any student still on the roster after the 10th day will receive a grade for the course.

NOTE:  NCVPS will administratively drop students on the 3rd day of class if they do not log in to their course and submit their first assignment.  Please begin working right away!

You may have your DLA drop you through the 10th day of class, though.

_____ 2. If you are in an EOC or CTE course, check with your DLA to see when you will take your EOC or CTE test.  Those tests will be administered by your local school and count 25% of your final grade.

Throughout the Fall 2010 Session

_____ 1.  Holidays:  Check the NCVPS calendars to see what days are holidays.  http://www.ncvps.org/courses/calendars/

_____ 2.  Progress reports and report cards:  Check the NCVPS calendar to determine when marking period grades will be posted.   http://www.ncvps.org/courses/calendars/

_____ 3.  If you have difficulty contacting your instructor, please see your distance learning advisor.

_____ 4.  If you are having a problem, seek help immediately.  For instance, if your password stops working, contact the help desk number.  If you are having difficulty submitting an assignment, let your instructor know immediately.

Last Day of Class: (Early Calendar: December 15, Traditional: January 19)

_____ 1.  You will not have access to the course after this date.

_____ 2.  If you are a graduating senior, your DLA may contact your instructor early for your final grade.  NCVPS can only accommodate this request for graduating seniors.
