ITCA Course Offerings:
Students beginning the Information Technology Communication Academy (ITCA) at De Anza High School are given an opportunity to investigate the many facets of Information Technology available in the today’s modern Technology Industry.
- First year sophomores begin the program with IC3 Internet & Computing Core Certification, intended for students who desire an introduction to using a computer and becoming a proficient user of Microsoft Office 2010. The course will explore Microsoft Office basics, using a word processor (Microsoft Word), using spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel), creating presentations (Microsoft PowerPoint), and desktop publishing (Microsoft Publisher). Students are expected to practice keyboarding techniques to improve efficiency. Use of a home computer, Microsoft Office 2010, and access to the internet are required. Students will also learn basic computer repair fundamentals such as basic hardware troubleshooting and network diagnostics.
- In the second year in the Academy, students may choose a specialty in either Hardware and Networking OR Software and Design within Information Technology Communication.
- Computer Systems Management will begin with a basic understanding of how computers are built, networking and hardware knowledge.
- Multimedia I gives students an opportunity to work with digital art, graphics, video, web, audio and film using the Adobe Creative Suite and basic iLife software on both Mac and PC platforms.
- During the third and final year in ITCA, students will complete a Senior Seminar in either Computer Systems Management II (in 2013-2014) or Video Production.
- Video Production (aka Multimedia II in 2013-2014) manages print, audio / video, and digital communication media at De Anza High School. The class gives students the opportunity to learn live sound design, film techniques for documentary and live events, audio engineering and live sound design. Students will work using mastery techniques in Adobe Creative Suite, as well as Ableton Live and Logic for advanced audio users.
- Computer Systems Management II will continue in the 2013-2014 Academic Year.
All students begin with an understanding of email, file-sharing and mobile / online resources. ITCA students will maintain a current resume, print portfolio, and digital samples of their work to show future employers. Participants will receive instruction in current Industry Technology and Terminology. They will also be presented with field trips to local union workshops, industry events, art showcases, and design contest competitions.
Grading:
All assignments are assigned a point value. The points are totaled and a percentage is utilized to determine the student’s final grade in the class.
Practices 20% A = 90% and above
Exercises 20% B = 80-89%
Integrated Projects 30% C = 70-79%
Class Discussions 20% D = 60-69%
Tests/Final 10% F = 59% and below

Make-Up / Extra Credit Policy
- “Extra Credit” is not offered. If a student misses an assignment, the student has three (3) days to make up the assignment. If the absence is excused THROUGH THE ATTENDANCE CLERK the student will receive full credit earned. If the absence is unexcused, the student may turn in the work for 60% credit. Students are NOT allowed to work on make-up work in class.
- Students will be required to submit assignments via the Gmail email address created in class.
- There is no homework but students who do well will have to opportunity to take the exams to obtain IC3 certification, a worldwide recognized computer literacy certification or WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE OTHER CERTIFICATION CO FOR ADOBE?
Academic Dishonesty:
- Any form of copying, unfair use of materials, or claiming or misrepresenting the work of others as their own work is a violation of ITCA’s Student Honesty Policy, will result in a failing grade on the test or assignments, and will be reported to school authorities immediately.

- 1st infraction - Student will receive a zero score on the assignment and a referral to a counselor. Depending on the severity of the infraction, a parent conference may be held and/or the counselor may place the student on a cheating contract.
- 2nd infraction - A second infraction after a contract has been issued will result in loss of points and may result in the student being removed from the class.
