‘Smackdown’ Ideas: 9:05 - End of Class

Robbie

Dracula is puppeteer of victims, controlling their every move and actions

Ms. Kennett

Taking of the life & not the soul

Joe

Fear: When society doesn’t know where Dracula is, the people are afraid. Similar to Osama bin Laden

Molly

The whirlpool effect, the more people Dracula bites the more it spirals out of control

Serena

Relation to Harry Potter Voldemort can connect through his thoughts

Sydney

In venturing to England, is Dracula combating modern day society or exploiting it?

Madison

Dracula has no reflection (can’t be seen in mirror) so he is representative of the main character's lack of moral vision (would you kill someone to survive?)

Tim

Overarching theme: Dracula is a symbol of the older more primitive world & he is battling with the newer more technological one. New world triumphs by resorting to the means of the old world (wood stake)

Caitlyn

Dracula represents violent: everyone has violence / evil in them that is held back by society

Katie

Dracula is both Villain & Victim - has to kill to survive

Dom

Both Dracula & Osama / terrorists have to use fear as a tool of control

Ally

End of Dracula: fear is taken away because Dracula is gone, in the end 3 vamp women try to create uprising of women & the evil is being created again, Spiral of fear continues again

Robbie

Lucy attacks children = lust for children. Victorian women have kids right away, she attacks them to take their soul, her way of having children

Madison

End of novel, Quincy Morris gets stabbed & he has to die = fear of change, he is American & represents Western ideas influencing their society...therefore, he has to die.

Brenna

Dracula could be a form of Christ / Anti-Christ...even though he is not seen he is followed by many. (anti-God)

Dom

???The world fears Transylvania, Transylvania fears Dracula...What does Dracula fear? (what did bin Laden fear?)

Robbie

Addiction to violence

Dom

&

Class

We fear bin Laden because we didn’t know where he was and when he would strike.

Bin Laden & Dracula are both cowards...Dracula attacks in sleep, Bin Laden has others do the killing

Bin Laden attacked when people were most vulnerable...daily life BOOM terrorist attack

Mr. Kulowiec

WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW!!!!!!!!!!

Merry

Dracula isn’t in half of the novel, he is a built up imaginary fear, the same way that we are imagining a fear of Bin Laden because we can’t find him...similar to how the characters in the novel fear Dracula.

Ms. Kennett
