Owl Hat Pattern

What you will need:
~ half a skein of worsted weight yarn of Main Color ( ~125 yards)
~ small amount of worsted weight yarn of Contrasting Color
~ small amount of worsted weight yarn of white
~ small amount of worsted weight yarn of orange
size G/6 - 4.25MM crochet hook
size H/8 - 5.00MM crochet hook

Hat
Working the hat in rows:
With Main Color (MC) and H hook, Chain 27
Row 1: sc in second chain from the hook and in next chain. hdc in next 2, dc in next 22 (26 sts)
Row 2: chain 2, turn, working in back loops, dc in next 22 dc, hdc in next 2 hdc, sc in next 2 sc (26 sts)
Row 3: chain 1, turn, working in front loops, sc in next 2 sc, hdc in next 2 hdc, dc in next 22 dc (26 sts)
Rows 4-27: repeat rows 2-3
Place the two ends of the hat together, inside out. Sc the two edges together.
Evenly sc around the top of the hat where ever you can fit ~27 stitches. (I got about 29).
Dec around (sc2tog) until the top of the hat closes.
Chin Straps (make 2)
With MC and H hook Chain 23
Row 1: dc in third chain from hook and in each chain across (21 sts)
Row 2: chain 2, turn, dc in each dc (21 sts)
Row 3: repeat row 2
Finish off, leaving a 12 inch tail
Attach a cute button on one chin flap. On the other chin flap, place ~10 chain stitches on the bottom in the middle of the other. Slip stitch into the same place that you started the chain.
Eyes (make 2)
With MC and G hook, chain 2
Rnd 1: 6 sc in first chain. (6sts)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc (12 sts)
Change to Contrasting Color (CC)
Rnd 3: (2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in next) around (18 sts)
Change to White
Rnd 4: (2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in next 2) around (24 sts)
Rnd 5: (2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in next 3) around (30 sts)
Rnd 6: (2sc in next sc, 1 sc in next 4) around (36 sts)
slip stich in the next sc.
Finish off, leaving a 12 inch tail
Ears (make 2)
Using 2 strands together,
With CC and H hook , chain 9
Row 1: sc in second chain from hook and across (8 sts)
Row 2: chain 1, turn, sc2tog across (4 sts)
Row 3: chain 1, turn, sc across (4 sts)
Row 4: chain 1, turn, sc2tog across (2 sts)
Row 4: chain 1, turn, sc across (2 sts)
Row 5: chain 1, turn, sc2tog (1 st)
Row 6: chain 1, turn sc (1 st)
Finish off leaving an 12 inch tail.
To make tassels for the ears, cut several (~ 6 per ear) 8 inch pieces of yarn and attach them individually

Nose
With Orange and G hook , Chain 7
Row 1: sc in second chain from the hook and in each chain across (6sts)
Row 2: chain 1, turn, sc2tog across (3 sts)
Row 3: chain 1, turn, sc across (3 sts)
Row 4: chain 1, sc3tog (1 st)
Row 5: chain 1, sc (1 st)
Finish off leaving 12 inch tail.
Arrange all the pieces to fit like the picture and stitch in place using tails.
