ART 130: Introduction to Digital Multimedia

FALL 2010

General Guidelines

Summaries of reading/listening/watching* from your Personal Learning Network are due every two weeks.  These summaries should reflect your engagement with the vast amounts of information and resources available to you through your PLN.  Dozens, perhaps even hundreds, of posts will be driven to your PLN every week and these summaries require you to re-present the items that piqued your curiosity, answered your questions, or taught you something new.

* You are subscribing to audio and video feeds as well as text-based articles.

The purpose of the summaries is to demonstrate your engagement with digital multimedia by following news items, op-ed pieces, technical information, and innovative developments.  Reading the feeds in your PLN will help you gain a better understanding of digital multimedia, the challenges, and the opportunities.  For each summary:

You will submit two kinds of summaries over the semester:

Text-Based Summary

Write-ups submitted as a Google Doc due 8/28, 9/11, 9/25, and 10/9.  All five items should appear in a single Google Doc, NOT one doc for each item.

Enhanced Audio Podcast Summary

Audio files enhanced with associated images and hyperlinks due 10/23, 11/6, 11/20, and 12/4.  Write up should include links to original articles and additional references as appropriate.  Link to your write-up in a Google Doc with links to appropriate supporting material and original items.  YOU YOURSELF will provide the spoken narrative that “glues” together the summaries of all five items into a coherent narrative.  (* The News Fuse segment on every episode of Tech News Today is an excellent example of what this should sound like.)

This is very specific.  Your audio recordings should conform to the following format:
