PRESIDENT’S REPORT

2013 Schedule is posted on the CMSGA website and in the locker room at the golf course.   Mark your calendars for the New Year.  Presidents Cup (match play) begins in February.   We have a signup sheet on the bulletin board in the locker room.  Sixteen players have signed up at the time of this writing.  This will guarantee one flight.  We are looking for another sixteen players to so we can have two flights.  Don’t wait sign up now and drop check for $15 in the box at the golf course.   Deadline is January 25th.   If we don’t get another 16 players ONLY the first sixteen will be able to play.   Let’s try and get 32 players.  Club Membership renewals are behind last year’s pace.   If you are going to be a member in 2013 we would like to have your checks ASAP.  Membership renewal is $70.  Make checks out to CMSGA.  After the December 15th deadline membership is $80 to renew.   All new members will pay $80 in 2013.  Tournaments: December 6th  Mesa Linda, Individual low net. December 20th Team Play Best Ball on Los Lagos.  We all play from the Silver Tees.  Count one best ball from your foursome. That player is eliminated from the team score on the next hole.  Every third hole two players are left.  All players are again eligible on holes 4,7,10,13,16.  If the BB score in your group is a tie choose one players score.

Pace of play is important.  Thanks to all of you for being aware of this and keeping up with your group and the group in front of you.  Deadlines for monthly tournaments are Wednesday at noon, 8 days prior to the tournaments.    Happy Holidays to all of you.    John Smith , President

TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR’S REPORT

We had a good turnout for the member-member tournament with about 70 players.  Congratulations go out to the winners of Flight A, John Jurczak and Larry Pagel with a combined net score of 55 and to our winners of Flight B, Don Miyada and Ed Chavez also with a combined net score of 55.  This was also our tournament where we awarded a couple of turkeys to two of our closest to the pin winners.  This years turkey winners are Tom Thomas and Jim Shampine.  With such a high number of players in the skins competition we had many holes on which we had multiply net ones, thus cancelling each other out.

HANDICAP REPORT

Taking Relief from Staked Trees:

Many golfers are under the assumption that they may take relief from trees that are staked.  This is only true when there is a local rule affording relief.

If such a local rule exists, you MUST take relief if any part of the tree interferes with the lie of your ball, stance or area of your intended swing.

If there is no local rule regarding staked trees, you are not entitled to relief from the tree.  If, however, there is an artificial stake that supports or did support the tree, this is an immovable obstruction from which relief is available under rule 24-2.  The relief is only available if the stake (not the tree) causes the interference.

For the record, CMSGA does have a local rule for its tournaments that provides relief (nearest point of relief plus one club length) from staked trees.

Tournament Chairman
