In My Own Home

This is a picture from my daughter Christine’s birthday; her brother Louis and her friend Missy is in behind her seat her.  From this picture, behind Louis is an antique chest that was my Grandmother, they are sitting at the round oak table that was in my Mother’s kitchen from the time I was 5 years old, to their left is an antique double chest that I store pots and pans in, in behind them you can see part of the “red” kitchen with a calendar from last year hanging on the wall....I liked the pictures from England on the calendar and didn’t want to get a new one....so Stephen (my 22 year old) adapts the calendar for me each month!!!  :)

What does all this mean.....I have lots of antiques from my family and then some that I have acquired.  I love icons and symbols....everything has some sort of “special” meaning for me.  Taking the “tour” through my house is not speedy....as I love telling stories of my family pieces or share for example why a very stark picture of an Illinois farm is so special to me.   My children have a hilarious “parody” of me talking about my “stuff” it starts my me telling how special a cracked piece of Tupperware is......very funny

When I reflected on the list, I was surprised to thing about my stuff....in a list....and categories....I have lots of music resources, LP’s , tapes, 8 tracks, iPods.....I even have my Grandmother’s turn of the century crack phonograph!!!!   Candles.....I have been call a candle nut....my children are convinced that I will “burn the house down”.....I can’t even tell you how many candles I have in the living room alone  (you really have to come to visit!!!)

Flowers....I love flowers....but I don’t like pretend ones....once in awhile I will treat myself with real flowers.....I do have several spider plants  which are very special because I got them from my friend Paula....so happy they are still alive!!!!

Figurines....I have several kinds …..some are my Mom’s swans; some are symbols about farming, and many angels.  These are all memories or icons for me.

Tapestries....I love beautiful oriental rugs....I have one small hand woven rug....and several “pretend” woven rugs.

Why do I have these things in my life?

These items comfort me, or they may inspire and motivate me.  Some of my pictures can take me to another place or time.  My music, I love to set a mood or energies myself.  I have a piano and I enjoy playing …...I can be there for hours  ( I get into the ….one more song syndrome!!)  I am still looking for my flute, as I want to participate in “summer band”.

Is there a valid reason why I should not also have them in my work life?

Yes and I do.
