Computer Science Ethics Activity
CSE2010: Computing Science 2
Note: There are 2 versions of this assignment. Check with your teacher to determine which version you are completing.

Version 1: GUI Java Program
Details will be discussed in class but essentially:
- Set up a GUI window similar to the following for displaying your ethics assignment:
- Choose the 4 topics from those found in the Ethics folder in Google Drive.
- Final 10%
- Convert the GUI Buttons to a Radio Button Group
- Alter some of the colours, background colours and fonts, but leave a professional look and feel to your final product.
What to do for each topic:
- Read the background and the ethical question at the top of each document and then skim through the answers of past students.
- Find a relevant fact or statistic about the issue. Examples could be number of jobs lost, a fact about a victim, etc. These facts should be no more than 2 years old. Include the website source of the fact.
- State your opinion and explain in a couple of sentences. If you and your partner disagree, write about both of your points of view.
(not for 2015/16) Version 2: Google Doc based Assignment
In Google Docs you will find a collection/folder called CS2 Ethics. In it are 8 documents each discussing an ethical issue. They each begin with a summary of the issue followed by a table for students to complete the assignment. Add more rows to the table if necessary.
You and your partner (partners are optional) will be assigned 1 ethical situation (see Mr. Couprie). You are then required to choose 3 additional situations (for a total of 4).
For each, you must do the following:
- Read the summary at the top and skim through the opinions of your classmates.

Choose one of the issues or propose an additional issue and explore it more. Using the table at the bottom of this document
- Find three pieces of evidence supporting EACH SIDE of the issue. This evidence should most likely be quotes from authorities on the issue and/or key statistics. Start with the point of view that most CONFLICTS with yours
- For each, provide the source and, if it is not obvious, explain why that source has authority or relevance
- Explain if your own point of view has at all been influenced by what you found out
